among the most important iowa basketball games in your lifetime? That is, until we win and play Indiana at home.☺

I thought at the time, the Maryland game earlier this month was the most-important game I'd seen. These three games are all more important than that game.

Wisconsin and @ Indiana were big, in hindsight.

If the end all be all goal is to win the Big title this year, Then it's a very important game, If the end all be all goal is to make a deep run in the NCAA tourney then not so much. I would love to see the Hawks win the Big championship, Right now I would just be happy with seeing them start to shoot better and get their confidence back, If they do that they will regain momentum and the wins will follow.

If your main goal is win the B1G championship, this is a must win and a huge, huge game. If the NCAA is more important to you, then this game is important for seeding. My goal is to win the B1G, so this one is as big as it gets so Tuesdays game means something. If we lose today, the Indiana game is important only for seeding in the tournaments.

If I look purely at records, it's certainly huge. Unfortunately I've watched every Big Ten game the Hawks have played and it feels like the train fell off the tracks. I feel zero emotion towards today and the remaining games.

I don't know. Im actually looking more forward to see how they respond and what direction they're gonna let this season go.

I agree. If we win out as well as MSU we get the #1 seed in BTT no matter what. Today's game is huge

In my lifetime, not very big at all. In the scheme of things this year, it's pretty big cause it could be a win against a decent opponent and it's on the road. It puts us right back in the hunt for the title or it drops us out of the race. If we win today it helps us build momentum and get back on track. I'm just hoping the team comes out with some energy and fights as hard as Woodbury did in the Wisky game.

We're 3 wins away from either an outright or shared B1G title, things that haven't happened in 4 or more decades. How could it not be huge???

Tough task, but maybe this team resets like it did after ISU this year. Or maybe already off the tracks, they tumble into the gorge below.

I dunno, but I'm not giving up on this team. Now if they lose today ...

I think in five years less important than now. We'll be used to competing for big results by then. It's new to us this season and thus seems like life or death.

As much as I'd like to see them get a B1G title, most of these games take a back seat to NCAA tourney games.

Just as an example, and one we all prefer not to remember, is hairdo's 2005-06 team crapping out in the first round of the NCAA tourney. This was critical in him moving on to his next stop in his search for more freebies and ongoing odyssey to find a true basketball school. I would rank that significantly higher in importance than today.

To win the conference title they most likely need all of the next 3 games. But of those 3, today is arguably the least important.
If I could only have one of them, it would be beating indy in CHA.

I do think today is their best chance for a win.

Not even in my Top 20.

One of your more ridiculous posts and I say that because I respect your basketball viewpoints. Iowa has a chance to win an outright B1G title if they win out. That hasn't happened forever, but we are in this position despite recent struggles, so this game is huge for lots of reasons.

Never mind winning out just about guarantees Iowa a 2 seed and a trip to DSM in the tourney.

Just my .02 though, and maybe if you list 20 games more important than today I'll change my mind and admit it here with a new post.

After we came up just short in the B1G title game against Sparty a lot of people seemed - to me - overly comforted by the fact that we were still going to the Rose Bowl. That didn't work out too well either.

My sights are set on a B1G title. Get what you can while you can. And what good is a tourney run if you don't make it to the Final Four? No one remembers anyone else.

Soybean is old enough to have seen a lot of games. I think it would be pretty easy for him to list a lot of games that were more important. While we haven't won a Big 10 Championship in over 30 years, we have had seasons like this where we were in position to win the Big 10 down the stretch, which means a lot of games that were just as important as the upcoming game against OSU. Additionally, he's seen plenty of NCAA Tournament games he's seen where we had a chance to advance to at least the Sweet 16.

So if the football team makes the Rose Bowl again next year, that game's importance is no bigger the one we lost this year? I don't follow that logic. Again, it is just my opinion.

Both games are Rose Bowl games. Why is either one more important than the other?

In terms of measuring the importance of particular games, I think it makes much more sense to measure it ex-ante vs. ex-post.

Pepper -Admittedly I don't recall the 1950's and Bucky that much, but keep in mind that when I was a boy George Peoples, Chris Perval and Denny Pauling were my heroes. Then when I attended Iowa Ralph Miller already had the program at the top in the conference and nationally. When Lute took us to the Final Four I was on pins and needles. Everytime Dr. Tom got us in the NCCA those games too were big. I was there when Luke Recker made us an item again. I also think that even last seasons two NCCA games were bigger than today for the program. I'm not gonna do it today but I could easily last 20 bigger games than today...and I'm sure we will see at least one or more games yet this year going forward that are.

GO HAWKS!

If they don't make a run soon, then the collapse builds and it makes any NCAA run unlikely.

These guys have to at least play well. Another low 30's shooting game and I think you can stick a fork in our chances of B1G title, B1G tourney run, ncaa run.

Lot's of problems with saying biggest game in someone's lifetime.
Maybe most importantly, you have no idea how old they are.
If you've been a Hawk fan since the 50's I have little doubt you can pull up 20 games that have more importance than today.

Lose this and they don't deserve to be ranked at all. Horrible team for multiple weeks.

Poor perimeter shooting for Iowa again.
If Jok and Uthoff don't go for at least 50% from the floor they are going to be in a lot of trouble.
