White House is throwing it down messaging wise

It. Doesn’t. Matter.

If you say you don’t believe in the government forgiving peoples’ debt, then sign up for a loan that gets forgiven by the government, you are a hypocrite. It’s that simple.
On top of all that, a lot of the GOP tweets very specifically call out the “American people” or “plumbers, truckers and farmers” paying for those loans. We all paid for the PPP loans. It’s still money they took through the government that they will never pay back and the rest of us will instead.

Have you forgotten about all of the ad hoc ag subsidies the Trump Administration created to help farmers who were being hurt by the Trump tariffs on China?
That seemed to address an issue. This was just a money grab for no reason. I guess heading towards socialism. Scary times with this out of control admin.

You're showing your true colors again you seemed disingenuous in prior threads and it seems to be confirmed.
No totally not disingenuous. Glad Trump is gone. But what is the purpose of this loan deal? And is this where we are headed?

NOT WHEN THERE IS A FOREGIVENESS PROVISION IN THE LOAN AGREEMENT TO START WITH!

How are you people so freaking dense?
Is there a pathway to forgiveness written into the student loan program? Does the law not give the DOE a path to forgiveness?

Omg, PPP and student loans are not the same thing. This is ridiculous.
Literally no one is saying they are the same thing.

If you signed up to borrow money from the government knowing that it would be forgiven, then start bitching about the government cancelling debt and giving people handouts, you are either a hypocrite or a dumbass (likely both). It’s not a difficult concept to grasp.

This. Honestly, I’m not sure why this is such a hard thing for folks to grasp. Then I remember there’s folks on here that would vote for Trump again. Then it all makes sense.

Just to be clear, you are ok with handing out money if it’s “part of the deal” to begin with?
If the government forces your business to shut down, you are owed some restitution, especially when it keeps people off of the federal unemployment rolls.

This is not the same as taking out a loan for a good or service that benefits exclusively you.

What about mortgages?

Again apples and oranges. This bill, which I don’t remember, seems to deal with how lenders that forgive mortgages can write those losses off of their taxes. I haven’t really considered if this was a good idea or not 15 years ago but it is not the same thing.

I don't remember it that well either but this was about the individual not having to claim mortgage relief as income on their tax return.

What businesses did the government force to shut down?

Is this not what happened with the politicians that put the provisions in place for themselves to get loans via PPP?
Who knows? I am not the expert on every circumstance where someone got a PPP loan. It was an absolute boondoggle to be sure.

To justify forgiving student loans because someone else got a PPP loan forgiven is a disingenuous argument.

I don’t think it is “justifying” it rather it is calling out the hypocrisy of it all.
