The Hawkeyes and Cyclones! The committee could still have it easy on Sunday if Wisconsin and OU win. But, as we’re all aware, if one (or especially both) lose it will be interesting.

Now without the three upsets by Iowa and ISU, or even if ISU had not beaten only TCU, we would have four clearcut quarterfinals this weekend (instead of two) and Alabama would already be eliminated. An 11-1 TCU and an 11-1 OSU would without a doubt be “win and you’re in” Saturday.

So I guess if we end up pissed that Alabama slides in the back door, we have only ourselves to blame ;)

Alamaba is far from eliminated. The only way they don’t make the playoff is if Wisconsin and Oklahoma both win. If either lose, the 3rd place team from the 4th best conference will be in.

Iowa also screwed it up last year by beating Michigan. If Iowa loses to Michigan, then OSU goes to the Big 10 Championship game and Penn State fans aren't complaining that they should have gone to the CFP over OSU.

We need to just eliminate the committee. You should have to be a conference champ to get in. The whole point of the play off was to eliminate personal opinions and decide the winner on the field. We might as well go back to letting the polls decide at this rate.

Just let Notre Dame play the team of their choice.

You mean their head to head wIn vs tOSU? Or their loss to Pitt and blowout loss to Michigan?
I was thinking of their win in the Big Ten title game, and then their effort against a good USC team in the Rose Bowl (aside from them choking) compared to OSU's bau effort in the CFP against Clemson.

The CFP committee has clearly demonstrated they cannot navigate a 4 team playoff. Wisconsin behind a 2 loss team? It had to be excruciating for the committee to put Wisconsin in front of Georgia and Alabama.

If Wisconsin beats OSU they may yet move up from #4. Every week of these rankings, besides the final one is nothing more than s sports talk show for ESPN

No matter how it turns out, alabama is OUT!!! Not a division winner - not a contender for one of the 4 spots

Clemson also needs to win to keep Bama out

There's always going to be a lot of subjectivity in college football for a variety of reasons (e.g., lopsided conference strength, lopsided schedules within conferences, etc.). There's no way to pick 4 teams and make everyone happy every year. There wasn't much argument after the 2015 season, but that appears to be the exception rather than the rule.

8 team playoff with 5 power 5 league champions and 3 at large teams fixes the issues

Let one Group fo Five champ in too, so only 2 wildcards. Play the quarterfinals immediately on campus sites after the season and then the final four just like it is now. The quarterfinal losers could also go to bowls. Question, though, should one conference be able to get both wildcards?

IMO the winner of Clem v Miami and Uga v Aub are in. If Wisky and Okie win they are in. If fOSU and TCU you win all bets are off. All I do know is that Bama is rated 5th so that if one of the later 2 lose they are in.

That said, fOSU is getting hammered for their loss to Iowa while nary a word is being mentioned about TCU and Okie losing to ISU, Okie losing at home no less.
