Is there Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan or Indiana guys I don’t know about. Looks pretty weak to me. A bunch of Iowa state champs? That’s UNI. Is there something special about this group? Do you follow Iowa travel teams and their success?

Well, I’d hate to see your posts where acknowledge that you’re being a dick.
They have 4 top 40 including 2 top 10 P4P committed over the next 2 classes and they aren’t done yet. UNI doesn’t recruit at that level. Rest of the commits are depth/development types to restock a roster that’s about to have a mass exodus due to graduation. Several of them would headline a UNI/ISU class but they’re coming to Iowa to wrestle with/against the best.
You know well that I’m a UNI fan so none of that is a shot at UNI. It is just reality.

Doug Schwab would do cartwheels just getting Block and Riggins right from his back yard, which didn't happen because Iowa got them.
Sans you do know Carl has been to Iowa a lot over the past year or two trying to get Ayala and or Jesuroga…. Just saying
Riggins is going to be real good probably not that 4 time champ good but I could easily see him as a 3 or 4 type AA. Even the all mighty Carl has guys like that in his line up. Iowa guys have closed the gap as well. We NEEDED depth and got some great guys that could develop into something special. I am pretty sure they are not done signing guys from this year and next years classes. But we do need a Franklin and or Arnold to solidify the upper weights. Lower to mid we are really good! Just need to get a little better at 184 & 197.

I watched the Fargo finals for riggins against Barr. If riggins cleans up his shots a bit. He gonna be real tough to beat at the next level. He shoots a lot!!! Love that about him
I’m a huge UNI fan too, but we’re taking all there mediocre Iowa recruits. I think we’re getting to point where I know about Iowa wrestling recruits than most, especially Willie. I watch ever single high school match over and over. My son knows all the top 100 kids and tells me who has the mentality to be champ and who are just high school glory days wrestlers. It’s whatever, but the recruiting is not impressive and Iowa will drop again if it keeps up. Hammer away if you want, I’m just posting my opinion.
It is awesome that your favorite team has been so good that nothing less than a national championship is a failure. It’s been that way all my life.

I think the difference is these Iowa recruits all have national level credentials (not talking about the many recent guys who recently signed that aren't expected to be starters). Ayala, Jesuroga, and Kueter are top 10 overall recruits. Riggins has made the fargo and cadet trials finals. Block is top 40. If they land Naatkgeboren, he's top 25.
They're not getting recruited because they're winning state titles. They're getting recruited because they're winning nationally. And the hawks are still in the running for a bunch of other nationally ranked guys.
I like Ayala Nate j and riggins a lot. They aren’t doing bad at all. But I understand your point. Get back to win you titles. Gotta get the top top guys!!
A lot of kids want to be on this team. My guess is many guys are walking on to be part of the team. But we welcome them all the same…
Take the depth/development kids out of the equation—Iowa needs to restock the room so they are good gets for that purpose. Some of those guys would be UNI’s best recruits. Schwab would beg, borrow and steal to get Jesuroga, Block, Riggins, Kueter, and the like. And they aren’t done yet.
Iowa is the only school with commits from 2 top 10 p4ps in the 23 class. Also, I highly doubt you watch every high school match over and over. Lol
Yeah, so do I and I’m happy to have them, but Iowa needs wrestlers from out of state to diversify. Cali, Pennsylvania and Iowa all wrestle different styles. I love the Iowa kids, but it’s time to make some noise and take other state’s top wrestlers every year like with Spencer, the bull, and Kem. And of course all the Illinois and Minnesota badasses.
Ayala, Block, and Riggins each have styles that would translate to any state in the union, IMHO.
I actually do. It’s a sickness, but all I do is watch youth wrestling all night and every night. I hate that Periscope is dead, it was my thing. I watch plenty of all wrestling, my kids don’t like it because it’s all I talk about and I’ve put a burden on them unintentionally. I have a wrestling disease that has probably taken years off my life. I’m from Waterloo, Iowa. It’s was kinda a thing growing up.
Obviously not every high school match, but the ones with wrestlers I’m following. I have no time for hip tosses and headlocks.

I would love to see a kid come from nowhere and win a championship or be a multiple aa. Again this maybe off topic or not discussed a lot but seems to me that doesn’t happen in the big programs. The top kids that come in usually get the mat time and so do the under-ranked kids but seems to me that the under ranked kids excel at the smaller programs not Iowa or penn st. Every so often yes but not at the rate of the smaller programs.
what are you talking about? we know they do because they all beat those kids at national tournaments. you have almost a reverse-homer bias going on. iowa was down for a while, but these kids are legit recruits. and it's not like they aren't still recruiting nationally.
I’m usually ready to join you in making that argument. However, you know the state of Iowa currently has some salty recruits making noise on the National scene.
I’d be surprised if TnT don’t land a couple of big names from out of state reel soon.
PS: As far as diversity goes, you have one-a, two-a and Three-A. How much more di-verse can you get?
Sam quit wrestling full time three years ago. He just couldn’t put on weight and rather work and make money. I still have him as the best technician and leg rider of his time. Short and stocky, Sam could be in trouble. His technique and wrestling knowledge would blow these dudes away. Name a better rider. You can’t. The only one close was Magayna and that’s just evilness, Sam would set you up for a cradle or tilts. It’s tough being 6’2” at 132. Sam will make more money than any wrestler mentioned on this board. Financial genius. Better than saying I wrestled for Iowa now I coach high school kids In Cedar Rapids and work at Target. Kiss my ass, meathead. He had plenty of offers. I have three more boys you can call out someday. I never named one kid or said anything bad about them, I just like different styles intermingling. You can’t have an entire team of Sebolt kids. Not a knock on Sebolt. Thank god we have him.
