Explain OSU/TCU rationale. I don't know the details .

I think even if we're 13-0 with a win over an MSU team that lost to Neb but beat OSU we'd be in playoff. If UNL and OSU beats MSU then we would definitely get to Rose should we lose to OSU. So I'm still shooting bigger than the Rose while also rooting for contingency plan

IOWA. the rest don't matter unless you are betting and want to win money or want the Hawks to go to something other than the playoffs. The only game that specifically impacts the Hawks is if they win at Indiana (and then Minnesota and then Purdue and then Nebraska over the next 3 weeks). As KF has said over and over, the only game that matters is the next game that Iowa plays and he is 100% correct.

Not 100% sure about FSU/Clemson. Sure win out we're in blah blah blah, but a 1 loss Clemson likely stays ahead of us for now, and that allows FSU to climb back in, even in a weak ACC.

Which side of the ball will you be suiting up on, on Saturday?

For the fans here, it doesn't hurt to get a little help.

I think we move ahead of Clemson, people already presume the ACC is weak. Also 1 loss Clemson, gives an undefeated Iowa with a win over OSU a better shot of getting in.

At this point TCU / OSU basically have the same common opponents left for tough games.

We would prefer that the teams ranked ahead of us lose. Yes, it might cause OSU to jump ahead of us, but then we will just cheer for them to lose against Oklahoma and Baylor. There is also a good possibility that they will be slotted directly behind Iowa if they win.

Iowa first.....the gravy is below

Florida State
LSU (would LOVE to say bye-bye to Bama......but I have a feeling we won't)
Ohio State
Pitt
(Please!!!)
Kansas State (with a new QB this may be interesting...Snyder seems to come up and bite people at just the right time)
MSU
Oklahoma State (Can they possibly jump us with a win?)
Vandy
Colorado (of course if Colorado wins you can't penalize Stanford because they had to go one hour time zone change east for a noon start!!!)
NAVY (Otherwise the Memphis bandwagon noise will pick up some steam)

I'm still not sure about rooting for Florida State either. If the game is close, FSU has the win over Clemson and might be able to climb above us. If Clemson is considered the most complete and best team to this point and their only loss is a close one, I can see them staying ahead of the Hawks.

Maryland, Maryland, Maryland.

There is no reason whatsoever to pull for MSU. None.

I can think of a couple. One is appealing to my western Iowa roots where we were seemingly surrounded by bandwagon Nebraska fans. Watching Nebraska continue to lose definitely makes that part of me smile. The other is that a win for Nebraska keeps their bowl hopes alive. I assume they'll win next week against Rutgers, so a 5-6 Nebraska team has a lot more to play for against 11-0 Iowa than a 4-7 Nebraska team would have. With bowl eligibility on the line, and a previous win over a highly ranked MSU, the 5-6 Huskers will have plenty of things to fight for that the 4-7 team would not.

Under no circumstances should any Iowa fan be pulling for MSU

Given the number of bowls and records of teams, it has been widely reported that teams with a 5-7 record this year will be bowl eligible. And, based upon what I've read and what was mentioned during last week's Nebraska/Purdue game, Nebraska would be one of the higher ranked 5-7 teams. Thus, even at 4-7, they'll likely be playing for bowl eligibility.

Then that gives me reason to cheer for both MSU and Rutgers then. :)

Your point is well taken, but I still think the chance to play for a .500 record at 6-6 is more motivating than 5-7 and sneaking into a bowl.

Don't forget that More losses for NEB means more tickets for Iowa/NEB for sale. Think about 30K fans in Lincoln wearing black and gold.

One more game:
IOWA STATE VS Oklahoma - Another loss for Big 12 top teams could throw more chaos into their hopes because OU will beat one of OSU, Baylor or TCU atleast this year.

If you are aiming for the Rose Bowl I agree. If you are aiming for the playoff then there are a million reasons to cheer for MSU.

The primary one being, MSU loses, beats OSU, Iowa faces a one loss team in B1G Championship, but since it isn't an undefeated OSU, it loses it's luster and an undefeated Iowa team is left out of the College Football Playoff.

In the case above it would be much better to face an undefeated MSU team in Indy.

The Rose Bowl would be a nice "consolation prize".

Any chance at the mythical Big 3 for Iowa in my lifetime...

a) traditional NYD3 win (Orange, Sugar, Fiesta), then...
b) Rose win, then...
c) national championship

I'm good with. One down, two to go.

Can someone explain the rationale for wanting LSU to beat Alabama? Why do we want an undefeated LSU team? Is it just because LSU has a tougher remaining schedule than Alabama so we assume LSU will lose later on?

Because a 1 loss LSU could easily stay ahead of us. A two loss Alabama is almost for sure dropping below us. An SEC team is getting in, might as well have LSU knock the one loss contenders down a notch.

Only way an SEC team doesn't get in is if 2 loss Ole Miss wins out. Might as well have one undefeated team instead of the possibility of 2 one-loss teams. Cheer for LSU.

cheer for LSU and Pitt I would really like Alabama to have two defeats. but they would prob still be in top ten.

This

Whether anyone likes it or not there is a strong SEC bias. Best case is for undefeated LSU and a bunch of 2 loss teams.

I could see a 2 loss SEC team getting in with some crazy scenarios, but yeah, root for LSU just to knock bama out of the park, and leave 1 spot taken, instead of a potential 2 we don't get.

That is my thinking. Better to bury FSU than to leave open a scenario in which they both wind up in front is us.

Similar to LSU / Bama. No two loss team gets in before undefeated Iowa.

Yep, I'll just root for MSU to go undefeated and beat OSU and then beat them in the CCG.... A Corn Husker loss is always good

This. Theyre getting one in anyway. Might as well be undefeated and cause the rest of em to have at least 2 losses

Clemson / Florida State - 2:30PM ABC.........yup.

LSU / Alabama - 7:00PM CBS........yup. Kinda the lesser of two evils.

Ohio State / Minnesota - 7:00PM ABC..........unfortunately, yup. No confidence-building for Minnesota allowed.

Notre Dame / Pitt - 11:00AM ABC.........obviously, yup.

Baylor / Kansas State - 6:30PM FS1....................I think it was Baylor that ended K-State's perfect season a few years ago, before Baylor became one of THE top dogs in the Big 12. Revenge game?

MSU / Nebby - 6:00PM ESPN.........yup. Eventually though, all they'll be left with is the Iowa game. They need to win out to go 6-6. I hope they end up 4-8, personally. ;)

TCU / Oklahoma State - 2:30PM Fox.......probably doesn't matter, although I'm guessing here you also see OK State as the more susceptible team down the road. Will an undefeated Oklahoma State travel into Ames again?....

Florida / Vandy - 11:00AM ESPN.................I would f***ing laugh. Not gonna happen, but I would enjoy that almost as much as I enjoy watching USC lose. Btw........an SEC kickoff at NOON rather than later in the day? Inconceivable!!!

Stanford / Colorado - 12:00PM Pac12.................I have a feeling the Buffaloes are gonna be pesky for one of the Pac-12 contenders down the stretch. Probably won't be Stanford, but one can hope.
