Who would be on the B1G all frosh team?

B1G Freshman is loaded this year...5 of these 9...

  • Jordan Bohannon, G, Iowa. ...
  • Miles Bridges, G/F, Michigan State. ...
  • Tony Carr, G, Penn State. ...
  • Amir Coffey, G Minnesota. ...
  • Tyler Cook, F, Iowa. ...
  • Anthony Cowan, G, Maryland. ...
  • Carsen Edwards, G, Purdue. ...
  • Kevin Huerter, G, Maryland.
  • Mike Watkins, F, Penn St

Cook & Bohannon were all-Big Ten freshman yesterday..shoot they were all-Big everything. In most years Cook & JBo would be locks.

since I'm prejudice...all freshman w/o Cook & Bohannon..

Bridges
Coffey
Edwards
Watkins
.....Cowan...

This is a great question. Bridges is a given but the others are not. It's a strong class of 4 year players. With no preference to position, I'd go with Bridges, Coffey, Carr, Cowan, and ... Watkins. That last pick was a hard one between Ward, Watkins, and Bohannon and it won't end up this way because the committee won't put two players from a terrible Penn St. team on first team. For reference, the second team is pretty awesome with Cook, Bohannon, Huerter, Ward, and Edwards. Huerter is a low usage, high efficiency guy you'd love to have on your team but he's just not putting up the stats to be considered for first team here. I looked at season stats only. I couldn't find a solid sort-able list of only B1G stats.

These teams are always picked on how your team finishes in the standings.
I would say locks right now:
Bridges
Bohannon

You have 5 guys fighting for the other 3 picks:
Carr
Huerter
Cook
Ward
Coffey

Not sure what makes people believe Bohannon is a lock. Iowa fans know how valuable he is but just looking at the stats, his numbers aren't better than Carr or Cowans. We'll see how many point guards the committee is willing to put on the first team.

I agree with HAD91, JB is probably not a lock. A lot of very good freshman in the league.

Unless we finish extremely strong. JBo and Cook will be on the all Fresman 2nd tea.

Thanks for the responses. There are a lot of very good, and 1 great freshman this year. One could make a case for any of the listed names on any given night, but just like our freshman there is inconsistancy.

The last few games and the league tourney will probably clear this up a bit. The off season will be critical if the Hawkeye's are to take a step forward next year. The league will be stronger next year and we will need to make major strides to improve results. The overseas trip will help.

Agreed. Most years Bohannon would be a sure-fire All freshman pick. Lots of new guys getting playing time this year. I would put Bridges and Coffey as locks. Coffey's all-around game is quite impressive.

Has nobody mentioned Justin Jackson from Maryland. That kid a much better all around player than Huerter. He averages more pointg than Huerter. (11 vs 9) He avgs more rebounds. He shoots a better fg%, a much better 3 pt fg% and better ft%. He's attempted 86 ft's vs. 22 so he gets to the line way more. He's one of the best freshman in the league.

My team would in this order:

Bridges
Coffey
Tony Carr (he is really good)
Justin Jackson

Probably Carson Edwards although I think this spot is pretty open with Huerter, Nick Ward, Bohannon, etc.

Great freshman class in the B1G. JBo has a good shot at first team, but is not a lock. To make the first team, Cook would have to play like he did at Mary Land with Iowa going on a run.
