Who's ready to give up beef?

I'll never cut out beef completely, I like taco's to much and a steak every few weeks. Eat a lot more chicken, pork and fish the older I get but I ain't cutting beef completely out.

On a side note lost 6 pounds in the last week. Weighing in a 6 foot 163 pounds this morning. DING!

Beef is the Worst

Old article, still true. I can find more examples.

"And then there’s the environmental side of things. Researchers estimate that livestock-based food production causes about one-fifth of all global greenhouse gas emissions. It also sucks up water and land for growing crops to feed livestock and for raising those animals."

I’m guessing I eat 1-2# of beef a week. I know I’m in a unique situation but it’s the cheapest source of animal protein for me.

Land and Water Use in Beef Production Systems from NIH

If I am reading this right it takes 27 hectares to produce 1 ton of beef annually. That s roughly 68 acres or 2,700,000 sq ft.

Lol....
Much of that land has no other use, at least in North American beef production systems. Food and fiber crops won’t grow on pasture ground. To get a more accurate picture you’d have to look at corn/forage consumed from feeder to finish weight. I’ll try to figure that out.

Ok..in the West I grant you that, but not in the Midwest.

Yeah and they also drilled holes in your head to release evil spirits from people who were perceived as mentally ill.
That would likely improve the thinking process of some of the right wing troglodytes we have posting around here. Or at least shut the voices up in their head for a bit, perhaps.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but that doesn’t make sense. If you even have the capability to grow 100 bu corn, that land will be much more profitable than raising beef on grass.
That’s very poor utilization of resources, at least from an economic perspective.

We could be virtual identical twins, give or take 50 pounds or so.
