Who's ready to give up beef?

Another important consideration is the essential amino acid profile of animal protein compared to plant protein. Many grains are very deficient in essential amino acids. If animal protein were to disappear it’s going to take a lot more calories of plant based protein to satisfy humans essential amino acid needs.

So just to be clear, eating an occasional cheeseburger is gluttony. Mmmkay

Like I said. I am sure you will do whatever mental gymnastics you need to. You can see the facts and figures of how inefficient and environmentally bad it is. You can choose to keep doing it and thinking I am unhinged. Good luck to ya...

What's that old bumper sticker, "You can take my wife, you can take my kids, you can even take my dog. But to get my bacon double cheeseburger you will have to pry it from my cold dead fingers."

Is anyone asking for it to "disappear" or is that hyperbolic hysteria (as usual) from the right wing?

The idea is to both decrease consumption, incorporate alternative forms of protein more often and work toward a more sustainable, less land-and-transportation intensive meat producing system. All of that is eminently achievable, better for the environment and better for human health and can be accomplished relatively easily while still allowing people to enjoy eating meat.

I friggin love meat and grilling and am down with the plan. We have already stopped buying ANY factory-farmed meat and get all of ours from this local farm:

It is a little more expensive, but that is all the more reason to cut back on consumption and have it 1 to 2 times a week instead of 3 to 4. Easy, incremental change. Better for environment. Better taste. Healthier. And no one is forcing me to eat insects or go vegan!

I think grass-fed beef tastes like ass.

A quick googling puts per capita burger consumption at 60 burgers annually. That’s a lot more than “occasional” imo

I do think culling cows is definitely sending the wrong message then, if in fact nobody wants it to disappear

Don't you find it weird that the elites want globalization where we ship all of our resources all over the world and use lots of fuel in the process, companies intentionally make their products wear out quicker so they can sell more, we wrap a 2 inch toy in 14 inches of plastic so they can sell more. billionaires live very lavish lifestyles where they travel across the world constantly.

But we are supposed to believe that cows are the biggest concern for climate change?

The study you linked is based off guesses. It's a bunch of bs.

What exactly do they want to do with the land that is now occupied by cows? They want to fill it with more people. Last I checked, people are worse for the environment than cows are, so it's still a net loss.

I feel more baffled by the incoherence of right wing anti-capitalism than I do anything about a climate proposal. Do you want capitalism or not? Capitalism means unaccountable global elites, sorry, just how it works at this stage of history.

Chickpeas are probably your best bet. But you’re caloric intake of chickpeas is triple to quadruple of your caloric intake of meat to receive the same essential amino acid amount.

Yes. I use those a lot. I am not Vegan, just vegetarian. I have eggs and dairy some, mainly from a small amount of cottage cheese per day.

I'm sure you realize that some people get seriously ill due to not eating meat. I'm glad you do well, but that does not translate to the masses.
