Tough to score on. Granted nova is probably played about as good as the could but I don't think they would have had it that easy against UNI.

They play very good "TEAM" defense. They move their feet and their guards are I hate to say it, more athletic than ours. Wasphun & Morgan are better than our 1-2 guards. They are just tough.

Because Iowa is not UNI.....................

A&M looks awful. You know they are going to wake up for the 1st part of the 2nd half.

Iowa didn't want to play anymore. It was pretty obvious.

What ever the deal with this senior group and Fran was it looked like they both just wanted it to be over.

Maybe...I said maybe...Nova looked so great because they were playing Iowa instead of UNI. And maybe...I said maybe...A&M ain't lookin' so hot because they're playing UNI instead of Iowa.

Sports works that way sometimes.

I, for one, continue to be impressed as hell with a UNI team that just goes out and plays tough, smart, effective basketball. After all, the Panthers have beaten North Carolina, Iowa State, Wichita State, Stephen F. Austin, and those boys from Texas. UNI will not be intimidated and they will not quit. They are competitors, and I believe they'll finish this thing off and move to the Sweet Sixteen again while the Hawkeyes watch from home.

UNI is the opposite of Iowa, which is great for the Panthers but not so good for the Hawkeyes.

We're lacking foot speed. That's why we are always playing zone. Cook, Hutton, and Moss are arguably Frans most athletic freshman class yet and I think we'll be able to play more in your face man defense in the years to come because of it.

Love these seniors but they weren't the most athletic kids out there.

Speaking of Hutton and Moss, does anyone have knowledge about how they have looked in practice this year?

Don't know who it was, but someone was on here saying that in practice they've been exactly as advertised. Which is a good thing I think.

To add to that, someone on one of the boards was saying that the staff has said that Moss is going to be really hard to keep off the floor next year. He's been busting it in practice. Haven't heard much about Hutton.

UNI is looking real good but it will tighten up. TAMU will have their big man back. Look for them to push it down low.

UNI has a defensive identity. Jacobsen has them playing the Pack Line defense, which is based on team trust. The basic tenets of that defense is "do not give up base line, do not give up straight line drives, on ball pressure with help in the gaps, and they must close out efficiently. Iowa does not seem to have a defensive identity and they typically look like they have no fundamentals. The Pack Line would be very effective for Iowa. Xavier and Virginia play they same basic defensive styles.

I also hate to say it, i will like to see a Post player who can catch the ball and turn and make it consistently. That is one thing that Woody never developed at Iowa. I don't know why, but I thought he would be money on the low block.

I was thinking I read that Fran changed up the defense to go away from the "don't give up baseline" mentality. One thing is certain, might want to revisit WHATEVER defense we are teaching. And for Petes sake run some freaking box out drills!

For those that have seen both play, how does Jordan Bohannon compare to Matt athletically?

Yet they played great defense in January.

Its not an athletic thing. Not even close.

It's perplexing for sure. Almost like he or someone instructed him to stop working on the low post moves (surely wasn't the case, but definitely wasn't a point of emphasis). He practiced FTS and 15ft shots (which improved greatly). But no strong baby hook? At 7'1, practice posting strong and that hook until your arm falls off!

I think Jacobson is a great coach and he is doing it with Iowa guys that IOWA did not go after

In my opinion the only game we played great defense was against Michigan State at their place. We gave up 76 to Rutgers in January, that's not great defense.

The difference between then and now was we had other people besides Uthoff and Jok stepping up and making shots. You can give up 76 points to Rutgers if you're pouring in 90. To say we're not lacking in the athletic department and our defense wasn't susceptible because of it is laughable.

nope.

Not the most athletic team but athleticism is not the issue.

We have no inside offensive game to work the inside out and don't have athletic guards. We can hit wide open shots, but pressure us and game over.
