Why even have these duals?

If you can't even have a chance to win a title why wrestle and get someone hurt this late in the year. Doesn't make sense. Just give PS the trophy.....

National Duals hobbles Brooks two years in a row.
Stoll gets hobbled too.
Uhg.:(

So sick of seeing our guys regress this time of year. Half our lineup thinks its ok to wait until the last period to start wrestling. Getting to the point I don't care if we win or lose just put a kid in the lineup that isn't afraid to get after it for 3 periods. Frustrating.

These "National Duals", in their current format, are a complete waste of time. The only redeeming quality of this event is that it provides some good dual match-ups that, theoretically, would be fun to watch. Like tonight, for example, which was unfortunately anything but fun to watch. Pretty much like fingernails on a chalkboard for 2 hours.

I don't see us hanging remotely close to PSU at 100%. Now, looks like Brooks and Stoll are hurt, which could take us out of the trophies at Nationals for the first time in about a decade. National Duals, in whatever form, haven't been kind to the Hawks lately.

This was an outstanding opportunity for our wrestlers to face tough competition, get better and improve our seeds.

And instead, we got this.

This right here boys. It might not mean much, but in my opinion you nailed it Spooner. We lost the only real toss-up, and under performed in our favored matches. Hats off to NC State. Time to get to work.

This was a great opportunity to put away a good opponent at home and we failed. Spare me the "national duals is a waste of time" crap. You come off as whiners. It is what it is. Injuries are part of the sport. Tip your cap and move on. Get over it.

I've said the same thing all year. Not whining about anything. Maybe pay attention next time.

My apologies. I didn't necessarily aim my response towards you. Believe me, I pay attention. I have for years. Just foresaw a lot of complaining tonight.

Iowa didn't look good all season long. The schedule was loaded with cupcakes. We wrestled only our 2nd tough team of the season plus Midlands. The rest was a snooze-fest. All those "let's grade the Hawks" after they wrestle Wisconsin or NW and give a whole basket full of A's wasn't relevant.

I'm fine with the duals, It just sucks seeing two key parts of our lineup hurt 2 weeks before B1G's. Stolls looks pretty bad.

Gilman, Clark, and Sorensen better put themselves into the finals. Meyer better step his game up, but it seems like he can ride almost anybody out for an entire period if he needs to, could serve him well at NCAAs to win the close matches in the blood round/quarterfinals. Coop looks to be making strides, could surprise people in March. Burak needs to be top 3. I don't know what to think of Brooks and Stoll right now... Grothus got hammered, but Jack is a top 3, he needs to go out with a bang and get on the podium, sometimes people have bad matchups, like Dziewa and Mayes last year. I'm not giving up on Brody yet, lets wait until B1Gs to abandon ship. I hope Brooks can have a good B1Gs and get himself a favorable seed at NCAA's. Hope his ankle/knee tweak wasn't too bad. Just ranting, but I'm not giving up hope yet, although it looks grim with Brooks and Stoll.

Appropriate and warranted complaining.

Disagree. If we would have won it would be bring on PSU. But we lost, so doom and gloom. Very unfortunate we had the injuries, and I'm quite pissed off about them myself, but it happens.

If I had to put my finger on three things that drove me out of my wits tonight, it was (i) the ease with which NCSt got to Iowa's legs -- see Grothus, Cooper, Meyer and Brooks; (ii) the refusal of some guys to trust their offense -- see Grothus, Rhodes, and Meyer; and (iii) the inability to finish shots -- see Clark, Cooper, and Brooks. Grothus looked really weak and lethargic. The cut might be a bridge too far.

I'm going to guess you just saw scores and didn't watch. This meet was pretty much a steaming pile of dung. Pretty much blows my mind that you don't think complaining about this "meet" is warranted or appropriate.

Yes, losses happen, but not all losses are created equal. This one was absolutely brutal. This team was clearly unprepared to compete tonight. You're welcome to your opinion. I happen not to think it has any basis in reality, however.

I missed Gilman's match, and half of Clark's. I watched the rest. "Brutal" is a bit much. NC State is a good team. We didn't perform as well as we all would have liked, but it's not the end of the world.

This is exactly why I don't post. Too many critical posters that fly off the deep end when we lose. Get over it.

Certainly no one wants to see any wrestler get hurt, especially late in the season where their chance of getting back into form for the post season is impacted. But, if we are going to avoid tough competition in dual form throughout the year...then shoot, skip the meaningless dual season and go straight to a season ending tourney or two.

I am not a fan of wrestlers ducking others to "protect" their seeds, nor am I fan of teams loading up on cupcakes and/or avoiding the other top teams in the regular season.

I'd say "brutal" is pretty much on the money.

Kindly point out where I stated this meet was "the end of the world."

While you're at it, kindly point out where it's written that fans are obliged to turn a blind eye to poor performances by their team/school of choice.

I think a good reason you don't post is that, when you do, you seem bent on forcing your own preferences on other posters. I wholeheartedly support your preference to read only and refrain from posting. Good call.

Dirktang,
I read all of your post as if Ricky from Trailer Park Boys is voicing them. Makes me wanna start a Bubble profile pic.
AZ Chief,
I read all of your posts as if Matthew McCounahey's character from Dazed and Confused is voicing them. I assume you end each post an "alright alright" followed by a trailing stoner laugh.

I'll be Julian. Come on boys, we've gotta save the park (HR) from complete meltdown! Only theft under $1000 boys, can't go to jail for that.

Dang -- I'm pretty sure what you guys are saying is funny, but I'm afraid I'm too old to get it.
Just a trailer park boys reference. :D Its a hilarious show on netflix, kind of like a real life version of family guy with 3 guys living in a trailer park in canada. Some of the stuff is so dumb and ridiculous its funny. If you wish to find out more you can follow this link. Be warned ;)

Gotcha. Thanks! If it gives you any idea of how up with the times I am, I just made it through "Breaking Bad". Might have to check that out -- but it looks like I'll be on my own with that. Doesn't look like my wife's cup of tea. . . .

I have no problem matching up the top teams during a date towards the end of the season...as long as they're not called the Dual Championship Series with a champion being crowned. This is good for the sport as it matches quality opponents and should prepare these opponents for the post season.

This is really a separate issue from the fact that the Hawks wrestled uninspired this evening. It's also a separate issue from Stollhouse being injured because that can happen in practice or any other competition.

High School girls...I get older, they stay the same age. Fav role of his...he nailed pretty much every stoner I ever met. Reminded me of this dude Chuck I knew back in the day. Unfortunately, Chuck took a little detour on his way to get Aerosmith tickets and ended up on death row here in Az.

Where did i say to "duck or avoid" good teams? My main point was this match was pointless as far as the National Duals go. Why would the number 2 team in the nation not have a chance to wrestle for the title?
And as far as complaining there are two sides. On this site you're not allowed to question anything if your team has won but then if they lose then you're a complainer. IMO is my thoughts. Not right, but that's how i saw tonights meet....Lots of pushing and dancing from our upper weights. Pretty sad IMO.

Sounds like a plan to me! WWDM you can be Jim Lehey... You're the supervisor around these parts.

LOL. The title of your OP, the title of the thread that you created...said, "Why even have these duals?". Then in the body of your post you say, "...why wrestle and get someone hurt this late in the year. Doesn't make sense. Just give PS the trophy.".

Perhaps I misunderstood your point, but I would have to say that it wasn't a stretch to read that as a condemnation of scheduling a tough opponent, particularly late in the season.

It was a dual meet against a top 5 team. A good test for a lot of our guys. We feel bad about it because we got outwrestled. If our guys had performed better (and I don't rule out that lack of talent is keeping some from achieving more) we'd be happy.
