Thoughts on this? Some highlights; while this country is about 50-50 liberal vs. conservative, liberals tend to donate more and protest more, i.e., they care more about politics, which leads to entities becoming more liberal.

Liberals also tend to care more about politics in regards to their friendships; i.e., it's tougher for a liberal to be friends with a conservative than vice versa.

I'd say there are points in the article that I see play out on this board; for some I'd go so far as to say have an unhealthy obsession with politics.

1). Liberal-biased media
2). It’s hard to protest the message “We demand things don’t change!”

They aren’t.

The GOP has spent two decades tarring anything government tries to do to improve people’s lives as “socialism” and “leftist” and “liberal.”

So now that wanting clean drinking water or the end of cannabis prohibition is defined as a “liberal” position, of course people remain in favor of them.

But many of those things aren’t “liberal” at all - they are standard practice in western democracy everywhere.

We need more media members talking about how great all-white basketball teams would be. Then people like you would love the media. Next season may be tough for you, a lot of the white guys from last years Hawks team are gone.

I don't know who the author is, nor the platform, I am assuming some sort of blog. But one issue with his analysis seems to be conflating liberal and D, and conservative and R. Even worse he seems to it further conflate it with Biden and Trump or Obama and Romney.

Seems to be all over the board, and maybe bit off more than he could chew. At least more than I wanted to chew.

You and others remain confused about what I mean by “we don’t need more black players, we need more good players”.

HIs link to the claim that those who identify on the right are happier is from 2011. He might want to revisit that after all that they have been through since then:

The Deep State
Lying Fake News Media
Fake Virus Hoax
College/University liberal indoctrination centers
Antifa
Woke Mob
BLM
Cancel Culture
George Soros
Coastal elites
Anthem kneelers

Something tells me the happiness index has gone with the extent of the victimization.

Other countries tend to be liberal about more substantive and important issues. In the US, liberals identify mostly with woke culture and an ever increasing purity test, which is why they sometimes can be difficult to be around. Liberal activism stateside is mostly just casting stones on social media. Even Obama has commented on the problem.

I have a lot of family and friends from both sides of the isle and, as far as I can tell, the red friends are generally happier. And by happier, I mean they're the ones that, again as a general blanket statement that is not applicable to everyone, don't get bent out of shape so easily about little shit or shit they cannot control.

A lot of my blue friends seem angry at society in general and go off the deep end over a LOT of stuff they have no control over or just the slightest thing.

Many of my blue friends cannot stand the thought of Trump, anything republican, etc. and get very angy/upset.

My blue friends don't like the thought of Obama/Biden, anything democrat, but they'll, generally, just say "guys an idiot" and move on.

I find this strange.

You read it as you want to. Everythang a’int liberal.

It doesn't seem strange to me. What you've described seems like the exact perspective that I would expect you to describe based off of my familiarity with you as a poster. The red friends probably have bigger peens too.

We have one of the most conservative societies in the western world - I'm pretty sure "everything" isn't liberal.

When compared to most of the "advanced" countries, this is 100% the right answer. US liberals are about center in most countries, moderates would be center right to right (among legitimate, non-authoritarians) and our conservatives would be far right in most of them. We really don't have much in the way of far left/socialists, although a lot of people on the right would disagree, they're wrong.

Where is this island? It sounds neat.

I don't have a single friend/family member who I would consider today's conservative (meaning a die hard Trumper) that is ever happy. They are always pissed off about something the imagine is being done to slight them.

A few of my blue friends/family are similar, but overall they are far happier and more relaxed.

The biggest difference that I can find, those I know who are red watch a TON of cable news (guess which channel) and those who are blue are watching sitcoms, sports, whatever else.

Does this not suggest more conservatives are friends with liberals than liberals are friends with conservatives? If that isn’t the case, his statement is certainly wrong.

I think he was referring to and miss representing this graph from the link.

Does your family that think Obama/Biden are idiots think Trump isn’t?

I would say that conservatives are more open to the idea of having liberal friends, while liberals are less so. It doesn't necessarily mean that conservatives have more liberal friends than liberals have conservative friends.

Do you have reasons for saying this or is it mostly gut feeling?

That is kinda silly. Most of the conservatives I routinely deal with are close minded as hell. The liberal folks are mostly strong minded, but not ugly about opinions.

My interpretation of that poll in the article.

My gut feel of HROT posters tells me it applies here. I have no stats to back this up, but my perception is for every use of "libtard" I see 3 or 4 "MAGATs". But maybe that's my bias not picking up more antiliberal sentiment.

Thanks for replying. Lots of people seemingly aren't comfortable admitting that they hold unsupported opinions, even if it's not unusual.

I'm sort of surprised that you don't pick up more anti liberal sentiment, to me, it's one of the primary focuses of the conservative grievance culture.

Have you heard people complain about the Deep State, Fake News Media, Antifa, Soros, universities/colleges, coastal elites, shithole countries, and other evil entities?

They seemingly are the usual foils in the liberal plots against normal God fearing traditional Americans.

So...liberals are less open to having conservative friends, but no less likely to do so. This is completely illogical.

I have found the exact opposite.

It’s not 50/50. It’s more like 33/33/33. The third category being independent or not affiliated.

This is entirely inaccurate from my also anecdotal views. Conservatives are way bigger into sports and watch less news. Interesting.

Ignorance is bliss. People who don't care about what is going on around them tend to be the happiest.
I don't think it is so much they don't care, they just don't let the petty bs politics get to them. Bottom line, no matter which party is in charge, who is president, who sits on the Supreme Court, etc., things in this country don't really change that much. So, why do so many go off the deep end every time there is a change?
