Why not run some slants to Ryan Boyle?

I find it hard to believe he's not a good enough athlete to be able to do this. Put some more playmakers on the field. Great leader who knows how to win and move in traffic.

4 games in and we are at the point where the converted QB who is likely slower than all of our existing receivers is the "savior." Put this with other gems like "blitz every down," "throw deep," "run an exotic" and "Ferentz doesn't care."

Playing WR isn't as easy as it looks. A lot more goes into than being athletic.

I agree with most of what you say. However, I don't think anyone believes he is a savior.
There's something to be said about being creative and putting talent in a position to succeed even if they maybe don't know the playbook completely or aren't sure on assignments etc.
There can be a middle ground.

This is my point...creative use of talent. Not program bashing whatsoever.

I guarantee you Boyle is fully capable of running a slant route.

Can he run it and get open and catch the ball and use body control to shield a CB and run enough routes where the CB won't jump the route because that's the only route he can run?

Great! Ok, leaving the huddle your route is the slant. You get up to the line you read coverage. The corner appears to be playing man lining up hard to the inside, you also notice the outside backer cheating toward the flat or you see the strong safety cheating up. Now what is the route you run?

What do any of them do?!
All I said was Boyle is fully capable of running a slant.
If the slant isn't there, if the defense is adjusting, etc. then the QB will look at other options.
It wouldn't be any worse than what we see now,
I.E. NOTHING

No, not really. I've played QB, WR, TE, and safety. WR was by far the easiest. I'd really like you to explain why it's so difficult.

The offense has reverted to slow......mo....... Think the offense would look better running more and less predictable plays. Probably will get better. If I see a problem I'm guessing the professionals are trying to fix it.

Lol is this a joke? Yea, playing WR is rocket science. I'm sure a straight A student state champion qb from Dowling Catholic couldn't possibly figure it out after 3 months of practice every day with our staff. Those 5 yrd slant routes we run 80% of the time in our vanilla offense are super complex.

Give me a break. To be a good college wide receiver you have to be fast, cut, and catch the ball. Terell Owens is an all time great WR...he also could barely read, and filed for bankruptcy after earning over $80 million in the NFL. But the guy could run, cut, and catch.

Wow how do you file for bankruptcy after making 80 million

Wr in are offense is harder than others because they have to be able to make reads mid route and know when to break off routes.

I remember in the Spring game when he had that one play against the 3rd string defense. That was awesome.

You probably get your wish, and we blame you for the MVB injury

Did you play D1 level or higher? I know guys who did and it isn't as easy as you suggest.

What does Terrell Owens financials have to do with anything?

You can lol all you want but you are completely off base. You over simplify what the position that has one of the highest failure rates in the NFL. I'm also not sure what being a scholastic person has to do with all the nuances it takes to be successful at WR. You offer a lot of conjecture but little substance.

He looked pretty good in the spring game... What we have on the field currently isn't getting separation and it is costing our QB some serious blows.

Ryan Boyle was the unexpected talk of the Hawkeyes’ spring game, four days into his career as a wide receiver.

The former Dowling Catholic star made the switch from quarterback on Wednesday. And on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium, Boyle electrified the crowd of 18,460 with a 38-yard catch-and-run up the left sideline. Three plays later, on the last snap of the game, he elevated to catch a 6-yard touchdown pass over Ankeny Centennial alum Isaiah Kramme.

It was almost like Boyle was dominating the CIML again. As a quarterback at Dowling, he accounted for 97 touchdowns and two state championships.

“The rest of us have been playing receiver for at least five years,” said Matt VandeBerg, the dean of Iowa’s wide-receiver group. “So him three days in, and he’s making plays like that? That says a lot.”

WR reverse pass!! <sarcasm>

Greg Davis said that he expects Boyle to switch back to QB next year. While most people (myself included) seem to believe that is bullshit, if it isn't bullshit then you would expect Boyle to actually get some playing time this year at WR. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to switch positions just for one year.

this is Iowa. If you play offense, and you're not a QB, you must block like a bada** or you're not going to see the field.

Get the corner back hands off you and run your route, that LB comes in the help, boom CJ see's there are two defenders on one man.. You got a dumb safety cheating up, he's out of position some bodies wide open.. That's a big play waiting happen if the QB don't throw into the tripple coverage you got set up there..
