Wisconsin's Top WR & their Inside LB OUT for Iowa game; Leading Tackler is Questionable

This team/season is reminding me of the 08 Team that lost 3 close games early then ran the table and beat South Carolina in the bowl game.

Edit that they lost to Illinois in Nov. then finished with 3 straight wins including the 55-0 Minnesota game. Replace Minny with Nebraska this year..would be epic to go into Lincoln and blow the Bluebloods off their pedestal.

Cephus is a huge loss, our best WR for sure, very clutch and dependable too.

Orr is replaceable though he's a very solid player, Cichy probably the bigger loss but we have 4 star Arryngton Farrar moved from safety at 6'2 237 to plug in there .
WR is problematic because the two seniors Peavy & Rushing are and have been out too.
We will depend on True Frosh Danny Davis, True Soph AJ Taylor and RS Frosh Kendrick Pryor all day.
They are young but not untalented.

RB, we are down CHris James and Deal but Walk-on RSFrosh Garret Groshek has been great behind Taylor and Shaw and Ibrahim are healthy also.

Plenty of injuries on a pretty DEEP Wisconsin team but the rest of the defense is intact, save Loudermilk who is a huge loss at 6'7 290 with good pass rushing skills.

Yeah, but it isn't like Wisconsin is going to be throwing the ball a ton. They are winning games because of their ground game.
Wisconsin would like to run the ball every play if they could, but that's not realistic against a stout Iowa D. They are going to find themselves in some third and longs, where Cephus was big. He was also a major red zone threat (6 TDs).

I have a lot of confidence in the 3 young WR"s.
AJ Taylor is probably the shakiest but he's getting better and is always open, Pryor is a stud but little experience and Danny Davis first true deep threat we've had in a long time.

Cephus is far and away our best receiver, not sure how that doesn't affect UW. Orr has played a lot this year (4th in tackles and sacks), but is only a blow to depth.

Backup NT Garrett Rand was spotted on crutches today, so I doubt he will play this weekend as well.

It took Iowa a while to adjust to TWO FRESHMEN offensive tackles when our SENIOR offensive tackles were lost for the season

And now it looks like our stud free safety, Brandon Snyder, is done for the rest of the season

Unfortunately injuries happen and it's the next man in.

Nobody feels bad for Iowa for all the injuries they have incurred.

Nor are we looking for any quarter, just talking here.
Next man in!

Nobody is asking Iowa to feel sorry for Wisconsin. Just questioning how somebody can say that losing one of your best players doesn't really affect the team.

Snyder’s been out most of this year and literally only played one game. Iowa is better when he’s here, but others have stepped up in his place, and we have a lot of experience in the secondary.

It's really about depth. Freshman tackles on the O-line? That's usually a recipe for total disaster, but Iowa is proving that they've been recruiting quality depth. Of course, it didn't look like that until the Ohio State game. Consistency is usually the toughest thing for young players and that could definitely be a factor on the road. Playing a home game is worth three quality starters so I say it's still a push. lol, who knows. :)

These new Wisconsin injuries will have no effect on the outcome of the game whatsoever. They just plug another guy in and continue on their way.

UPDATE ON WISKY's injured players:

(1) DL Garrett Rand

Wisconsin could be without reserve defensive lineman Garrett Rand when it hosts Iowa on Saturday.

Rand, who can play nose tackle or end, was using crutches and wearing a protective boot on his left foot Tuesday.

Rand, a 6-foot-2, 272-pound sophomore, has played in all nine games this season. He has three tackles, two quarterback hurries and a pass broken up.

His pressure on Indiana quarterback Richard Lagow led to an interception in the fourth quarter of UW’s 45-17 victory Saturday at Indiana.

If Rand is out, redshirt junior Billy Hirschfeld could fill in as the No. 2 nose tackle behind Olive Sagapolu. Senior end Conor Sheehy can also move inside to tackle.

(2) WR Quintez Cephus (leg)

(3) LB Chris Orr (left leg)

UW will be without wide receiver Quintez Cephus (leg) and linebacker Chris Orr (left leg) when it faces the Hawkeyes.

(4) Safety D’Cota Dixon

Safety D’Cota Dixon (right leg) is questionable. He is Wisconsin's LEADING TACKLER.

(5) DE Isaiahh Loudermilk

Reserve defensive end Isaiahh Loudermilk, who has missed the last three games because of a left-knee injury, has returned to practice. However, it is unclear whether he will be ready to play Saturday.

No. 8 Wisconsin will be without its top receiver for the rest of its run at a potential undefeated season.

Head coach Paul Chryst said earlier this week that sophomore Quintez Cephus would miss Saturday's home game against Iowa. The program's updated injury report Thursday listed Cephus as out for the remainder of the year.

Cephus injured his right leg while blocking on a running play in the third quarter last Saturday at Indiana. He had 501 receiving yards and six scores, both team highs, in the Badgers' first nine games of the year.

Wisconsin lost Jazz Peavy, another starting wide receiver, to injury in early October. Peavy hasn't been ruled out for the year, but he won't play against Iowa. The Badgers list seven players as out for the season, several of them starters.

Wisconsin (9-0) can clinch a Big Ten West Division title with a win over No. 20 Iowa this weekend. The 3:30 p.m. kickoff marks the team's first game against a ranked opponent this season.

Putting back to back thumpings on Nebby would be glorious.

The worst part of the Cephus injury was that he had dedicated this season to his father, who was shot and killed this past spring. Terrible that his season got cut short.

As has been said before, both teams have injuries, that's football. As an Iowa fan I am just glad that this game has taken a turn for the better for the Hawks. A couple 2-3 weeks ago if you asked people on here if we stood a chance against the Badgers they would laugh you off the board. Fast forward and two days out the majority are picking the Hawks to win, some by a lot.

I am looking forward to watching a good old fashion Big Ten battle between two teams that are mirror images of each other. Both want to run the ball and play stout D and special teams. Wisconsin has been better at executing their game plan than Iowa the last decade or so, minus a few years, but the Hawks are definitely on the way up. I don't see this as being a blowout for either team. If nothing else, the weather won't allow it. IMHO, it will be a battle of field position early until one team finds it groove. I hope it's the Hawks. Again, should be a great game.

UW will also be without linebacker Chris Orr (left leg) Saturday against Iowa.

Listed as questionable:
* Safety D'Cota Dixon (right leg)
* reserve defensive end Isaiahh Loudermilk (left knee)
