Woodbury vs. Hammons/Haas

Woody is one tough SOB, and I am very glad he is a Hawkeye!

Agree that Woody brings MUCH, MUCH more to the Hawkeye team than Joe 'average fan' will ever realize, or appreciate. He's a very good passer for his size, has good floor sense, pretty good space eater and rebounder. Congrats to Adam Woodbury and the Hawkeyes

Im sorry, am I suppose to defend my earlier comment to you rambo like message boarders, because adam woodbury had 6-7 rebounds standing at 7ft1 and occasionally guards his man tightly? the guy never blocks shots, he struggles mightily to dunk a basketball, and is a very average rebounder for a man of his behemoth size, If you want to give the man a courage medal for playing some good defense then so be it, but do not act like he is some bad ass difference maker, he is a marginal role player at best and rarely impacts a basketball game, positively that is. Take off your hawkeye blinders and wake up woodbury lovers, the mans soft and timid around the basket. The man occasionally plays good post defense and corrals a rebound or two per half, he hits an occasional jump shot if he is wide open because nobody respects his offensive game whatsoever, I guess you could call him scrappy? Anyways if you want to crown him go right ahead, but for being a 4 star recruit and highly sought after, the guy struggles to jump 8 inches off the ground.

If you get upset at the notion of needing to defend your ridiculous comments then I would just stop making them.

The thing is you don't understand whats going on on a basketball court. You don't know how to accurately judge what is effective and what isn't.

Obviously by your reference to dunks and the way he looks rather than what gets done.

Your judging on style points, which don't exist.

Without Woodbury Iowa loses that game. Period.

and just some food for thought there rock n rolla, Iowas aggressive press was the key role in Iowas comeback tonight, so slow your roll there turbo. I think you took some offense to my posts that woodbury is an embarassment to all 7footers and that he is still learning to dunk a basketball, if you are a 7fter yourself or you struggle to dunk a basketball yourself, Man I am deeply sorry that I offended you.

All kinds of idiot in this thread. So Woodbury isn't a high flying dunker...great...he elevates like my grandmother...fine...point established. Why do you morons think Hammond's and Haas only got 10 shots in the post. Is it because Purdue wasn't trying to go down low? Is it because they wanted to win the hard way and score from farther away? No, it was because Woodbury and others were working the post for position all night and denying them the freaking ball. Hell, I'm willing to bet 3-4 of the ten shots were offensive rebounds where Hammond and Haas worked for position.

Rewatched the game. I think combined they made 4 or 5 shots against Woody. Id say half of Hammonds points came against Uhl or in lose ball/transition situations. Hass basically didn't play much in the second half. Had one nice step back shot.

The biggest factor was admittedly they could not get the ball inside due to their guards inability to deal with pressure.

It just PAINS me when people think, just because a BB player isn't FAT or Heavy, he must be 'easy to push' around. Obviously, it's those folks who never played the game, that have no clue.

Steph Curry isn't real muscle bound or heavy, is he? Kevin Durant?
Jarrod Uthoff? Reggie Miller? Allen Iverson? Kareem?

Sheesh........

Clearly Uthoff is not a post player, and when I see that a player is 250 pounds, it tells me he's played in the post his whole life. Don't act as if your knowledge is superior because you play open gym more than your friends. Swan got quite a few good looks using his body yesterday.

He scored 6 points, most of his looks weren't that good.

Even with a huge weight advantage he couldn't move Uthoff around, got away with a bunch of travels and got stuffed a few times.

Just like I said, he was nothing to be worried about, keeping the ball out of Hammonds hands was the key.

Just like you said. Who said we win by 6? I think I was pretty close.
