First time watching the Hawks tonight. We are young and talented. The youth showed on defense against a good team and the athleticism showed on the offensive end. That is typically what you see from young teams....they need to learn how to play defense at this level. The veteran team won. But we were in the game up until the end. These players will learn.

You cannot teach kids to be athletic. Coaches learn about their team each game and I trust they will teach accordingly. The team we saw tonight will not be the same team we see come Big Ten play.

I for one am ecstatic and looking forward to watching this team grow. It has been a long time since I have seen a team as athletic as this in an Iowa uniform.

These kids need to realize their athleticism isn't going to skate them by anymore. They had a lot of lazy passes, late pickups and were just overall a step or two late on defense. This game was a good wake-up for them to realize good teams are fast, athletic and have basic fundamentals nailed down.

Iowa is not as veteran as Seton Hall (starts 4 juniors and a senior) but neither is Iowa a really young team. We started a senior, a junior, a third-year sophomore, a sophomore and a freshman. Other guys who played double-digit minutes were a freshman (Bohannon) and a sophomore (Wagner). Fran said as much in his post-game PC, that the defensive lapses can't be contributed to just youth. Hopefully the team had its eyes opened to the effort it takes to play defense against real competition. Lots said about help defense, rotations, etc. That is all true. But first you have to give the requisite effort to play good defense. At some point, individuals have to take enough pride to not have their man just go by them repeatedly. If the defense is constantly in a position where guys have to help, the result is layups, fouls and wide-open 3's (we saw all of those last night).

Fran seemed disappointed after the game, and he should be. Will be interesting to see how they respond next week against Virginia.

Seriously, this isn't young? Two upperclassmen? 137 of our minutes were played by Sophomore's or Freshman.
