Players Quitting is on Kirk…

I keep seeing this idea that Iowa will only win 4 or 5 games next year. Not sure what y'all are seeing schedule-wise that I'm not.

Albany and UMass are pretty much guaranteed wins.
Oregon is a guaranteed loss.

The other 9 games are pretty much toss ups. Four of those 9 are at home and we'll be favored in 3 of them. The 5 road games we'll probably be favored in 3 of them (Rutgers, Nebraska, and Wisconsin).

Just going by where we'll be favored, that's 8 wins. We'll probably lose 1 or 2 of them, but then probably win 1 or 2 we aren't favored in. For example, I'm guessing ISU will be favored, but we haven't lost at their place in 13 years.

Looking like 7 or 8 wins to me.
Omg come on bro

Otto Black and AUSTIN DESANTO going on an overseas greco trip!

No it would be 1 freestyle match likely in a different country. I asked if specifics could be said and was told it's not finalized so too premature to announce anything. The last one got cancelled so we will just have to hope this one goes through.
So far this is still in the works. Nothing set in stone. Not even what weight it would be at.

James Carville is feelin' salty

They were right to keep Harris away from Rogan. There is no possible way she could survive a three hour interview. Rogan would have torn her up by asking some very basic and obvious questions, then hitting her with a follow up. Her verbose, word salad answers wouldn't cut the mustard.
If she chooses to run again, she needs to learn how to weave because that certainly isn’t word salad.

Politico: This is the new progressive Democrats strategy for warring with Trump

Personally, I wish they would focus on Democratic voters and not Republicans/Centrists.

They don’t give a damn about the Democratic Party and centrists just vote on vibes. (Pretty much like everyone apparently).
I think the right answer is EXACTLY opposite on this one. There aren’t enough progressives to overcome the coalition of socially conservative voters Trump compiled. The centrists were the Dems to lose and they managed to lose them. The issue isn’t that centrists vote on vibes, the issue is that the Dems don’t know how to talk to centrists (or disaffected voters of all stripes for that matter) and their policies do not resonate with them.

If Trump’s win drives the party further to the left then it will become an increasingly narrow slice of the electorate. The Dems need to wake up and pivot to the center.

Biden Administration Awards $6.6 Billion Loan to EV Maker Accused of Defrauding Investors

Now you're Nostradamus.

BTW the taxpayers didn't hand Tesla 6 Billion of our tax dollars.
You are right they didn’t get $6 billion. But they also didn’t get $0. They received low interest loans and subsidies totaling $2.4 billion. Personally I appreciate it. When I bought my Model S in 2015 it cost about $110K. Without the government funding it might have been 2x that or more. Or more likely Tesla wouldn’t even be around,

Now I’m not saying whether or not Rivian should qualify for such a loan, but don’t act like Tesla wasn’t the beneficiary of government money that absolutely saved their ass in the early days.

Tesla government funding

This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Record low I believe. Everything going great for Putin. Nothing to see here.

Tariffs against Canada Mexico and China.

The United States uses 4.3 million barrels of Canadian oil a day. Almost all of that goes to the Midwest and West Coast. Expect gas prices to increase 40-75¢ per gallon.

You obviously don’t realize that all oil isn’t the same.

If you don’t know what that oil is used for, there is no way to determine the price of gasoline.

What are the most surprising things you have found while traveling?

The motorcycle and scooter culture overseas really is insane. Every empty roadspace is occupied.
Next time you're in Vietnam, check out the daily death count at the police boxes from motorcycle fatalities. Highway 1 from Saigon to Hanoi is still just two lanes with American Peterbuilt trucks going 75 miles an hour alongside 125cc motorbikes and bicycles.

When I was working over there, we'd be out in the sticks around Cam Ranh or someplace and you'd come across a chalk outline of a dead body on the street. It was quite common. The bike and body would be gone but there would be a chalk outline of the deceased with a pool of blood flowing down the street. Crazy. You rarely see stuff like that in the States.

Don Jr says they’re discussing replacing White House press room journalists with podcasters like Joe Rogan

Even Mike Judge couldn’t have predicted that Americans would get their news from the guy who made people eat bugs.
I remain very surprised that journalists haven’t done what doctors and attorneys did when faced with credibility issues. Create a standards body like the bar association or the AMA. One of the principles of journalism should be to remove any inherent biases in the news reporting to restore public trust.

News programs that only use credentialed journalists get to be called “credentialed news” or whatever catchphrase can be policed to explain the certified practices they follow. The rest don’t have the right to use that label.

Make any proceedings public. If a journalist doesn’t adhere to standards they are disbarred and the findings are made public. Seems straightforward. FoxNews might only have 2-3 people clean enough to pass such a standard. CNN somewhat more, but nowhere close to all of them.

A look at 157 for Iowa

Purely anecdotal I know but I pulled my hamstring about 8 months ago pretty bad. It wasn’t so bad that it hurt when I walked, but I couldn’t run or even jog without a good deal of discomfort. I rested it, stretched it, iced it, jumped in the cold plunge machine quite a few times and let it heal. I ran 5 miles this morning and the damn thing still hurts. Hammies can be tricky. Now I’m 48 and Teemer is in his 20’s, but how he looked Saturday night, he won’t be able to push himself in practice for quite a bit. Time off the mat would obviously affect his conditioning, timing etc. I wouldn’t expect him back for a few months. Hopefully it’s a lot milder than it looked, but he was having a hard time walking off the mat.
So Cal, you are old and on the border of being put out to pasture dont rush back from injuries like that. Lol
Teemer is very tuff and has had his share of injuries to endure, he also has some pretty good people and facilities around him to get him back on the mat. I had one one these high hamstring pulls also, mine felt like a stage 11 after it happened and took a long time to get back to 100%. I was also a bit over the hill when it happened, but I did not miss any days of work from it. Teemer will be back, the question is how close to peak form he can be by March???

Iowa WBB 2024-2025 Season Thread

As someone noted above it does look like some data from last year is still included. I compared Nolan to HHS last year. For the most part they were pretty aligned, but HHS would have outliers where they were impactfully different. It seemed HHS was generally more accurate.

Just did another poorman's scorecard like the one I posted yesterday and gap widen a little more between HHS and Nolan ELO. I'll monitor it over the season to see how HHS and Nolan ELO pans out.

The one thing noticed about HerHoopStats is they change the history of rankings at the time that game was played. That's why when I go back 9-10 days the team's ranking are all the same as if no ranking updates happened in that time frame. I did notice HHS changed the rankings on most teams from yesterday. Don't think I like that feature where they change the rankings of past games to what their ranking is today as it can skew who the real underdog/fav was at that point in time. That's just me as others may like past game rank changes for other reasons.

Example:
Iowa may be rated #10 a week ago when they played Drake.
Today Iowa is rated #5.
HHS goes back and chances our ranking of that Drake game to #5 to match today's ranking.
That's what I have noticed on my end without a subscription.

What are the most surprising things you have found while traveling?

Europeans dip their French fries in mayonnaise. WT actual F.
I used to live in Phnom Penh. During the 2006 World Cup, I used to frequent a sports pub owned by Aussies but staffed by Khmer. They had tacos on the menu and - being that I hadn't had them in ages - gave them a try. I asked the Khmer waitress to add sour cream. She had no clue what I was talking about. I explained that it was a white cream and she seemed to get it.

She brought the tacos out, I tried them and thought something was off - obviously. Figured out they had added mayo and not sour cream. Was actually pretty good.

For the record, Hungarians love Philly cream cheese on their burgers.
