Michigan blitzed Alabama and won; Iowa didn't blitz Missouri and lost

Milroe, an NFL draft pick, lost the game for Alabama because he couldn't throw against the Michigan blitz. The Missouri QB had no such worries against Iowa. He just sat back in his Lazy Boy and tossed the ball around the field while four Iowa D-linemen danced around the line of scrimmage all game long.

Michigan was able to protect its lead and win the game because it sent pressure. And the Dback coming off the edge often arrived at the QB untouched, which can happen when there are more rushers than there are people to block them. So let's be honest: Phil Parker lost this game. Tim Lester lost this game. And Kirk Ferentz lost this game. Had they been coaching Michigan today, Michigan would have lost. IMHO, of course.

BTW: Anybody still want to claim Alabama (9-4) belonged in the CFP? LOL

No. 19 Missouri 27, Iowa 24: QBNone

In a game where Brendan Sullivan could have solidified himself as the man to beat for Iowa's starting QB position in the spring, he and the #Hawkeyes came up short.

Iowa needs another portal quarterback -- and they need one soon.

Where Are All The Homers Today?

eyesoncock, frosty, cmhawks, the “hammer is going to drop” idiot - where are you?

George Barnett’s gang put on yet another clinic in getting manhandled. Budmayr’s group had the dropsies. Captain Kirk started playing four corners offense with 20 minutes left on the clock. No depth at any positions other than d-line and TE. Nine losses in a row to ranked teams.

Iowa was badly out-coached. Why aren’t you here singing the praises of our infallible coach?

Have we talked about how one of the biggest Elon fanboys online was actually Elon Musk?

He got caught John Barron-ing himself, just like his favorite President Elect Boot-Licker. All while fighting MAGA for the right to exploit immigrant workers. Seen an read quite a bit about this lately, but Kulinski sums it all up well here…

*** Iowa MBB vs New Hampshire GAME THREAD ***

Iowa MBB ends its holiday break tonight and wraps up non-conference play with a home game against New Hampshire.

Not a lot to say about this one -- New Hampshire is 2-12 this season with wins only over a pair of non-Division I teams. The Wildcats are ranked 359th in KenPom.

Even by cupcake standards, New Hampshire is a pretty lousy-looking team.

Iowa is a -32.5 point favorite over the Wildcats tonight.

Tip-off is at 6 PM CT with TV coverage from BTN.

USC vs Michigam

Both of these teams are a lot better than us right now.

I'm my opinion, Jan emphasizes post play too much (understandable with her background).

Our offense needs to find more drive opportunities with more dive cuts by the guards. Too much passing around the perimeter with no action too the hoop.

The lob passes into the post need to die a quick death.

...and our defense is going to need to improve a ton. Still love Stremlow's game.

Donald Trump desperately needs his man friend

In a message posted on Truth, Donald Trump seems to be begging Elon Musk to come see him, while bragging about Bill Gates dropping by. The Trump camp is refusing to admit that Grandpa meant to send Elon a private message, and not send it out to the thousands of followers that he has.

Thoughts from Nashville….

Welp…
Great location for a bowl game. You can not top Broadway. Hawk fans represented well. Out on the street it seemed we out numbered 2-1. However, inside the stadium I’d say Misery 55-45.

Game thoughts-
I liked what I saw on the two or three opening drives. I thought Buie took a step forward. I don’t recall him in the second half. Was he hurt? Patterson and Moulton had nice games.

Obviously the late hit was crushing. A drive or two before- Gill dropped an easy third down catch killing a drive. Both were huge points in the game.

Was Gills catch that lead to fourth down debacle close to being reviewed?

To me outside of QB- Iowa needs pass rushers and secondary help. I’m not sure Iowa has a full complement of answers in that group next year.

Overall this was a 50/50 team all year. Never consitent. For a team that returned 8 starters on defense, to me at least that was the biggest disappointment of the season.

Hopefully the portal brings help and a full complete off season with Lester moves the offense forward.

End of year grades

Probably wrong time for this post as everyone is emotional after the loss. I'm trying to do this rationally so hang with me and feel free to add your own:

QB: C-, Cade struggled and couldn't move, Stratton is a serviceable backup, Sullivan shows glimpses but needs help going forward.

RB: A, Johnson is one of the nation's best. Jaz and Moultonare solid.

WR: C-, drops and couldn't get open. Still a passing grade because I wonder how much of their struggle is due to other factors. Show glimpses and Wetjen needs to stay and get reps. Gill and Buie look okay. One more would be good.

TE: C, Lachey was absent all year, injuries were his problem. Ostrenga will be fine but under used. The biggest problem was two fold. 1- they struggled blocking at times. 2- they weren't targeted much.

OL: C, improvement from last year but pass blocking is a problem. Still had missed assignments and straight whiffs blocking.

OC: B-, we still scored more than usual but our efficiency numbers weren't great. Passing was poor. Still, I thought there was progress from last year.

DL: C+, at times we looked to get pressure with 4. At times we looked like we were getting run over. Ultimately this unit didn't move the needle for me. I was hoping for more from this whole group.

LB: B+, best overall unit outside of the running backs. Higgins gets an A by himself. Jackson was very solid. Fisher was fine. Castro regressed big time and Lutmer/Rexroth didn't look ready.

CB: C, but help... the C is essentially for Harris. TJ Hall was okay and not tested as much. I think we need to see more of the freshman as Lee struggled mightily and Nestor did not seem ready.

S: D, that might be nice. X... dude, we ALL want this to work. He's one of our highest rated recruits and was in state. He's been really bad and was benched. Schulte struggled. We had the top blown off multiple times. We just don't tackle well and couldn't cover. I'm hopeful Entringer will be one answer and I believe we have a freshman to try there.

DC: C, while it's nowhere near what we are accustom to, it's not terrible, most of the time. The words I would describe this group would be soft and inconsistent. They showed glimpses of greatness and other times where it looked awful.

K: A-, Stevens is still a weapon. He's been pretty consistent and should have been trusted to kick more.

P: B+, not Taylor yet but very solid and could pin the ball deep. Elkin needs a nod for his long snapping.

KR/PR: A+, two return TDs, Wetjen AA, averaged the most yards per return.

KT/PT: B, a few broken coverages but most of the time this group has been good.

ST: B+, still a strength of this team. Woods is a good coach.

Head Coach: C-, legend, yes. Is the game passing him by, probably. Game management/ clock management still makes all of us angry. Players seem to love him. Overall, 8 wins with this schedule was not good enough. Losing today was a very sour note.

Fire away and add your own. Just wanted to type to get it out of my system.
