Surprised at the negativity. It was the #3 team in the country, after all

Losing last night was a shame. The Hawkeyes controlled that game from the opening tip to 2.5 minutes to play. And then all that great work for 37.5 minutes went for nothing. But ISU is the #3 team in the damn country. So maybe unranked Iowa did a helluva job to stay on the same floor with such a great team.

I was ready for Fran to leave years ago. I hope we have a new head basketball coach for the men's program for next season. I'm tired of Iowa being soft on the boards and constantly getting outrebounded. But last night Iowa was playing the #3 team in the country, and Iowa outplayed them for 37.5 minutes. Those are the facts.

Izzo's MSU teams generally play tough nonconference schedules, and they lose many of those games against Duke or Kentucky or other top 25 teams, and they don't always play those teams as well as Iowa played ISU last night. But MSU almost always is competing for the BIG title and plays well in the NCAA tourney, unlike the Hawkeyes. So I can understand where people are coming from, but just based on last night itself, the Hawkeyes were great. ISU, finally, was greater. So based on that, if ISU is #3, Iowa must be a top ten team.

Iowa has lost by 2 @ #14 Michigan. It lost last night to #3 ISU by a score that in no way reflects the overall game. What matters is what happens the rest of the way. If Iowa continues to improve and continues to play hard and learns from such losses, then the season could end up being a good one. But it would be a revelation if the Hawkeyes could get after it on the boards.

Gin and Juice Bowl

I’m far from a boomer and get off my lawn type. In fact I think this is dope. But isn’t it weird to have a college bowl game where 65% of the rosters can’t legally drink sponsored with an alcohol in the name? It’s one thing to sell booze at games but I can’t think of an alcohol company ever sponsoring a college game. Even the big ones are “brought to you by Dr Pepper.”

Ohio State blew $20M on a Roster that Finished 4th in the B1G

And one COSTLY offseason move turned out to be with what they did at the QB position.

In the offseason, Ryan Day showed starting QB Kyle McCord the door in the favor of a transfer portal option that turned out to be Kansas State QB Will Howard.

McCord landed at Syracuse.

Yesterday, as Will Howard struggled in a loss to Michigan, throwing two costly interceptions, McCord was up in Syracuse out-dueling the nation's best quarterback, Cam Ward, in a thrilling comeback 42-38 win over #6 Miami.

Down 21-0 early in the second quarter, McCord erupted for 380 yards and three touchdowns on 26 of 36 passes.

When asked after the game about beating Miami while his former school Ohio State lost to Michigan yet again, McCord had the perfect response.

"Everything comes full circle," McCord said.

This season McCord passed for 4,326 yards, completed 66% of his passes, and had 29 TDs and 12 INTs for the Orange (9-3).

Ya’ll getting some time off this holiday season?

I’m a couple hours away from being on vacation for rest of the year. Might check in a little Monday, but nothing big. Much needed break. It’s probably my favorite time of year for a staycation as they call it. It seems more acceptable to just stay in your pajamas and sleep in during the holidays than it does any other time of year. I’ve tried it. On a Tuesday in July, it just feels wrong and I feel guilty. Not this time of year so that is what I’m going to do.

How about you? You getting some time off? What are your plans?
