Hopefully we keep him as an analyst. He was a very good LB coach way back when but the game has evolved and he hasn't. I said this exact thing when we hired him.

Most obvious was that he said "obviously" 27 times.
Looks like Mike agreed, I wonder if this was the heated debate firing.
Another option Antonio Cromartie. Dude knows how to shut down a WR. And ask any of his baby momma, he has good hands.
Although I do expect that Mike is going to look for proven folks vs a coach on the learning curve.

Wonder what changes are coming to the Defensive approach if any for the final 2 games. 1 game as a prep game, 1 game that really matters. Even beating uf will not save the season, but it will make the bad taste go away for a bit. Surely they will try to do something, and now that the changes are underway, we have to assume a certain level of discord and chaos. Can't be any worse than with the old staff can it?
It will be interesting to see who they bring in; I can't imagine anyone on the staff being totally safe. Surely the new coordinators will have substantial input, right?
I can see Surtain being retained because he's done well recruiting, and Pap staying as ST coach. Not sure about anyone else. I guess Thomsen has been solid recruiting, we signed two good TE last year & have another committed next; as for coaching, other than Morlock' horrendous first month or so the play has been decent.

Seeing how things unfolded, if I am coming in as the OC or the DC and hired first, I would make it part of my agreement that I have heavy influence in the position coaches.
I do expect a couple more folks are not extended.
And if you are an OC, you get total control of the offense (scheme, personnel, play calling, etc.)
If Im coming in after the worst performance in a single season, yer damn right I am going to own the levers to control my fate. And to save MN's bacon.

I haven’t been able to find overall seeding. For whatever set of events, Duke appears to be the one est seed. They did not come out of the conference that way.
Miss State may have the easiest path as a 1 seed.

Rumors were floating around that he wasn’t likely to stay with the program…not because of his coaching or recruiting, just believed to be moving on or simply giving new DC complete autonomy (includes Odell being moved off the field).
