12/1 Iowa vs NC State game thread

Partly because recruiting in women's basketball often happens very early in a player's career.

Stuelke committed to Iowa in May of 2019 (around 6 months before Clark did). She debuted for the team in November of 2022. Callie Levin committed in August of 2021 and won't debut until November of 2024.

Stuelke and Levin are somewhat unusual, but not dramatically so. Before Covid, Iowa often had its classes finalized months or even closer to a year before the players signed their national letters of intent.

So why didn't Coach Bluder bring in athletes to play with Clark? For Clark's class and the class after hers, the answer for many of them is that they likely committed before Clark did. Or before she started playing college games, at least.
true but not last year from the portal, just saying

I am a casual women's hoops fan and recognize Clark for the phenomenal player she is but what is the problem with Bluder's recruiting? It was painful watching an athletic NC State team carve up a slow of foot non-athletic Iowa team. This seems to be the issue every year. Beat up on the Big Ten teams that are equally unathletic and get wrecked by teams with athletes.

NC State has a nice team but as a casual fan it appears Bluder is going to waste one of the all time greats in Clark by putting mediocre talent around her. I get that Iowa isn't UCONN, but last night was embarrassing .
To be fair NCS would have beaten UConn last night. They couldn't miss and the ref's swallowed whistles alot..

If I’m an opposing coach I let CC get hers—hell, let her have 50. Make her work for it but so what. Nobody else in the team will hurt you for more than maybe 15. Ball and player movement all night and you should be able to get 75 on this squad pretty regularly.

Still so disappointed.

Stings so much since I’d honestly never been more proud of this team than after the UConn game. That game was so impressive, so tough, just outstanding, even in a loss. Couldn’t help but be really proud. I breathed easy, thinking they had made the adjustments, learned the right lessons, done the work…

Clearly the work, at best, is only just beginning.

Do you suppose our D might have alot to do with it. It was just shooting practice for them last night.
You give up some good looks from 3 and a bunch of rebounds when you play zone. If we a great defensive team we wouldn't have to play so much zone.
NCS made a bunch of tough shots too.
Our bench has provided nothing so far.
This team can't continue to shoot 20% from 3 or get no production from the bench and expect succes.
Having said all that... I dont expect to ever see a player like CC again in my lifetime.

Bluder is the anti Kirk. That might have been the worst defensive effort I’ve ever seen. The problem is there doesn’t seem to be any consequences. Marshall has no business being out there and practically plays the entire game. We’ve needed an athletic wing for years but just no go.
