2 deeps this fall

Dude your laughable. First off, I haven't made up my mind about shit, and I hope they go undefeated. This is a message board, and we have 13 years of info to form an idea what we'll see, and this is what I see. Nothing more. And what in the name if sweet baby Jesus does Pmac being a 4 star have to do with anything? He's been in a uniform for THREE years, and we all know by now what his strengths are, and are not. What some rating service thought of him when he was 17 is totally meaningless at this point. Also we're discussing this season. What we get from the two frosh remains to be seen, ( I hope their great, but you can't just pencil that in either), and then throwing in a kid who wont even be on campus for another 16 months is mind boggling....
then try using it. as it is the same info I am using to get the info i post.

even if Jack is a legit 5* he will be trashed from day one and this board would be flooded with nepotism complaints.

had no reason to state parts of my past life.
Please check McDermott, Doug at Creighton University from like 2010 to 2014. I bet he had a different experience.

only at Iowa do they bitch about nepotism
McDermott had his son on scholarship playing for him
Devries at Drake has his son on scholarship playing for him
Hoiberg at Nebraska has his son on scholarship playing for him
Howard at Michigan has both of his sons on scholarship playing for him
even Alford had both of his sons on scholarship playing for him at UCLA

Funny thing is even Lick's son played for his father while at Iowa and Fran gets ripped for having sons playing for him. talk about Hypocrites, people on this board are the biggest hypocrites on all the msg boards.

it is even worse on the FB Board
the Stoop brother were all the Oklahoma staff at the same time and if Bob would have been the Iowa Coach he would have had his brothers on the Iowa staff as well.

even Michigan has these on the team as full time paid coaches

Jim as the head coach
his brother
and he just hired his son last summer as a full time assistant coach, talk about the family business.

until I saw the word Nepotism I had never heard a word of it nor its meaning.

This is wrong in so many ways I don’t know where to start.
McDermott and Devries are arguably two of the top players in the history of their universities.

Hoiburg is not on scholarship at Nebraska.

Jett Howard was really good for Michigan and his other son barely played.

Lickliter is the reason you have so many fans sick of nepotism. That’s where all this stuff started.

show me the law or rule reguarding who can play or coach at Iowa University. since you bitch about you should have no problem of producing that info.,

I'm not necessarily disputing your overall point, but Alford, at least, has faced significant criticism in regard to nepotism:

Is Steve Alford's Nepotism the Reason for Bruins' Recruiting Failures?
UCLA fires Steve Alford as basketball coach after 6 seasons (scroll down a bit: "Skeptics accused Alford of nepotism when Bryce was groomed as the backup point guard over Zach LaVine, who now plays for the Chicago Bulls")
Steve Alford continuing to be a purveyor of dogshit nepotism

So here's the deal. Patrick will never be the same physically as he was before the cancer. He lost his thyroid as a result and that's a big deal for an athlete. With that said, Patrick will never be the player that people want him to be. Some of the projections people have thrown out there about him having NBA potential or the next Uthoff are so ridiculous that they defy logic. I'm sure Patrick and Fran thought that the sky was the limit before the cancer struck. Those dreams have now faded and that has to have taken a mental toll that came to a head along with everything else last year. Patrick is what Patrick is. He's a nice role player on a college team. No more, no less, and people should just accept him for what he is and let him enjoy the time he has playing for his dad. He deserves it.
I think you undersell Patrick. He had some great tools to work with on offense. They’re pro potential. He needs to work harder on rebounding and defense. But he has the agility, shooting and ball handling to be a great forward.

We disagree and that's ok.

Projected minutes (not suggested minutes) - more balanced vs. last year

PMac 22
Pe. Sandfort 27
Pr. Sandfort 12
Perkins 26
Bowen 20
Harding 15
Dix 18
Nimmers 8
Kikke 21
Freeman 10
Dembele 12
Other 9
If we have 11 guys getting minutes, that’s not a good thing.

There will definitely be more balance than last year, which was an anomaly for Fran. Heading into B1G play, hopefully the rotation tightens a bit more. It is not a perfect science, which ones would you change? Do you think anyone would redshirt?
I’m not disagreeing with a lot of your minutes. I’d put Krikke, Peyton, and Tony at high 20s or low 30s. But after that I’m not really sure. Really need a big man and a point guard to emerge. I like Dix but not sure if he’s a point guard.

don't expect Price to avg 27 mpg. to many option right now. this is why I am am looking forward to the overseas trip. that should give a peek into the future.

don't care about the level of competition they play. as Fran will need to find his starting 5 then start to develop a rotation.

No one expects Pryce to average 27 MPG

Glad the coaches have an overseas trip to figure out the best rotation. I see a lot of offensive firepower, especially if the Bowen and/or Harding are ready to play. I don't see much defense or rebounding. Tough for freshman to consistently compete at this level, but I think we need some good minutes from Freeman, Dembele or Mulvey to not have an awful interior defense. I think we will be better if Krikke can play 4, not 5. I would prefer to see Patrick off the bench, but I don't expect it.

wanna bet? Bear saw the floor long before he got his scholly
Moore under Doctor Tom saw the floor long before he got his scholarship.
Hope you're right, as I have said before, I see Nimmers as the most skilled and athletic guard Iowa has on it's roster. Fran would be nuts to not play that kid, and giving him a scholarship is the right thing to do. It's not like he has to throw someone off the roster to provide him with one.
It probably cost Iowa a few games last year by leaving 2 scholarships unfilled, it's not like Fran gets a bonus for not fulling every scholarship, at least I don't think so.....

Nimmers won't see the court unless he get's a scholarship....
I have wondered before what the process is for non-scholarship kids to break into the rotation. Sure, some have done it, but not many. But I wonder what the mechanisms are at practice. Do non-scholarship kids get the same number of reps in practice as the scholarship kids?

Lickliter is the reason you have so many fans sick of nepotism. That’s where all this stuff started.

This is the statement the defines the nepotism dementia at its root. I don't know if Steamboat is on the nepotism bitch wagon but he sure clarified its nature.

John Lickliter played only played because Jeff Peterson transferred after the close of the recruiting season and we couldn't find another point guard. No portal in those days. Then Tucker drank his way out of Iowa 11 games into the season.

The only point guard on the roster was true freshman Cully Payne. Lick's kid got a scholarship that would have otherwise gone unused. John played only 175 minutes in only 21 games, 14 seasons ago. That was 10th on a team with only 11 players. Criticizing Todd for such little depth is fair, but no longer really relevant to Iowa basketball. John only played when there was literally no one else to play those minutes at point guard. He got a scholarship because one opened up.

Hanging on to that grievance, especially as nepotism, is trivial, petty and like most nepotism complaints, just plain envy. Perhaps, even worse, it's like cursing the law of gravity when you fall. Successful people hire their children whenever possible and as a general rule. It happens so often and ever since the beginning of history that it's pointless to complain. Unless you're a bitter ender that will grasp at any reed, however thin, to complain about McCaffery.

It's very much like the front of the room theory of running large meetings. No matter who it is a few people in the chairs will want to argue with the person in the front of the room, just because they aren't in the front of the room.

All I have to say is that those that expect big contributions from any frosh once the B1G schedule kicks off will be sadly disappointed. History shows that unless it's a complete stud 5* recruit they will not be consistant or make a big impact on wins/losses. So yes I believe this team will struggle unless there is another addition through the portal or 1 of the Frosh turns out to be much better than expected. There are so many question marks with this team. My hope is that a couple of the vets really step up and show great improvement.

I don’t think history shows this at all. I’m not sure that Iowa has ever had a 5* recruit in basketball, yet we’ve had many freshmen who have made major contributions over the years.

That said, the overall point about not relying on incoming freshmen remains valid. Managing expectations is the smarter move. But there’s no reason not to be hopeful.

Yeah, its very possible that Fran leans on some upper classmen for 30+ minutes. Those 3 you mentioned seem like highest likelihood. I just have not seen enough of Krikke to have much of an opinion. Peyton is our best scorer by a country mile so would be fine with that, just prefer him to be fresh as he gets a lot of shots off. Tony is a head scratcher, he is just so wildly inconsistent, hoping some younger players fight for some of those minutes OR he magically steadies the ship.
