#2 Houston @ Iowa St

19 year old Omaha Biliew is competing with 24 year old Tre King for minutes. A 5-year gap in college basketball is massive, Omaha just isn't better than anyone in front of him in Ames.
exactly. omaha would never take minutes from pmac. pmac would never play for tj.

Forgot 1 game on the schedule...

Finish at home vs K State

Hard to imagine ISU winning out at home, so they will need to steal one (or two) on the road? Right now, at UCF (9-4) looks like their "easiest" road game.

I'm kinda bummed that ISU doesn't play at KU this year. I always look forward to that game. Such is life with conference realignment 🤑

Agreed Cydkar. You have to be up on KU by 20 with 5 seconds left to guarantee a win. The FT disparity is always a joke.

Last night, I loved when they talked about the history of great PGs to go through ISU. When they mentioned Jamaal Tinsley I just laughed and recalled his line about Allen Fieldhouse "it's just another gym" 😅

As good as ISU may or may not be this year, they have a ceiling and aren't winning anything, just like us. In the end, they can advance as far as they want, unless they win it, nothing changes. Beating Houston does nothing to change that narrative.

Just like Iowa WBB last year or when we beat #4 PSU in football. It meant something to us fans but in reality, nobody else cares unless it matters at the end of the year and there's only one way to make it matter as we all know. ISU won't matter when it's all said and done, we know that. We've been down this road before with both ISU and Iowa numerous times.

So that's great for them on the win, that's cool. Hopefully ISU does something with it. History says no though. I know it's cynical but it's also unfortunately true.

And yet Biliew still rides the bench. Is he injured? He was supposedly such a huge get for them, I can't believe he doesn't earn more playing time.
So what’s that say? They’ve got even bigger better players in front of him.

What's your definition of "doing something with it?" If it is a National Championship, then almost everybody doesn't matter. Likely not conference championship either. Getting to NCAA? Possible. Run to Sweet 16? too early to call.

Let’s be honest, doing something with it probably means something just beyond what Iowa State will achieve this year.

More Hilton Magic tonight in Ames. women down by 19 against #24 West Virginia and come back and win. ISU plays 5 freshman.

No, he's right, it's a national championship. Unless that's the ultimate achievement, then this is irrelevant to anyone but ISU fans. Not dogging ISU, I would feel the same if Iowa was in this situation, which they're obviously not.

You're right, nobody matters except whomever wins it all. Do that, and ISUs win will be relevant. Don't, and nobody will remember ISU beating UH outside of your own fanbase. You'll personally be proud and remember a conference title of your favorite team etc etc. but nobody else will care. Just like you wouldn't if we won the B1G Championship but didn't win a natty. It's just how it works.

I have no idea what you are saying. Every team has a ceiling. Is ISU winning the national championship? No.
If your favorite team can't win a national championship should you just watch Netfflix instead? I don't care what fans of other teams think about ISU.

Iowa St has a little bit of the same problem Iowa has in football. Incredible on the defensive end but have had lapses over the years where they can’t put the ball in the basket. Their incredible defense makes every game a dogfight but go out and shoot 35% in the tournament you’re still gone. That being said that was an old school game last night. Sampson teams rarely get outhustled, so physical. Not a work of art but I liked it.

This is an extremely odd post. According to you - why should 99% of college football/basketball fans even care about the games if they aren't going to win a national title?

Obviously you do or you wouldn’t be here. That said, I totally agree that we can have fun watching a team that isn’t destined or talented enough to win the whole thing. That’s one of the the craziest takes I’ve seen on a message board.

Sure you don’t buddy

Look, I get sone people enjoy watching their teams regardless of how good or not they are and that's fine. I'm just saying that for me personally, if you aren't competing for a natty, it really doesn't matter. You play to win it all. I don't watch Iowa basketball any longer as a result and I struggle with many Iowa sports in general now because they aren't competitive enough for me. That's just me, I get it, but I've been watching Iowa athletics (regarding major sports) for 37 years with nothing to show for it other than commiseration amongst myself and other Iowa fans.

It really is as simple as winning a national title in the respective sport for me. If you're not doing that, then nothing else you've really done that season matters in the larger perspective, you know, the one that changes viewpoints of outside fanbases.

So far, all ISU or Iowa have done is create talking points for their own fanbases. Nobody outside cares about us until we win it all. Until that happens, beat the #2 team during the regular season all you want. It doesn't matter unless ISU wins it all. I'm willing to bet that they aren't good enough, so they won't. Prove me wrong ISU mbb, or don't, I don't care in the grand scheme of it all.

I don't think it's odd at all but I get it's probably not popular sentiment regarding loyalists. I want to win a title. I want to support a team that is literally the best in the country just once in my lifetime. I want to watch the game for the narrative and for the chance that we can win a natty. That's what we're all doing until it's essentially dashed each year, which, for Iowa and ISU, it always is each year. The next year renews hope but reality always kicks in and so on and so on.

I don't watch professional sports and was raised on Iowa football and basketball. I've come to realize over the years that I'll probably never get that satisfaction unfortunately. To me, you play to win it all or you're just like the other 99.9% of the country.

I don't blame ISU fans for being excited about their team this year. Ultimately, it's up to their team but let's be honest, truly honest with ourselves, we all know this won't actually lead to anything on a national scale. They're not winning a title so the only ones who will care are ISU fans at the end of the year, which doesn't matter to anyone else.

Maybe not odd, but a bit depressing. Everybody is different. I know of no other fan like you so I guess that makes it "odd" to me. Nothing wrong with it.

I watched 0.0 seconds of Prohm's last season, for the record.

Honestly, this is how many Iowa fans are with Iowa bball. If the product isn't great, we don't really tune in that much, nor fill the seats. I think it's a combo of Fran not really being that likeable, no super exciting dunking/offense(no scoring a lot doesn't do it for me), and maybe just Fran fatigue.

It's definitely depressing and I know I'm in the minority. It's probably not healthy either lol. I really am at an impasse currently with Iowa athletics unfortunately. I used to hate people like I am now in my youth but as I've gotten older, I'm definitely more cynical and depressing, especially in regard to Iowa mbb. It's probably skewed my vision of the sport overall honestly. I just feel like the rich will always get richer and that Iowa and ISU will always be the have nots at this point. So far, that's been true although I hope I'm wrong eventually. I'd rather ISU win a title than probably 98% of the teams out there but I just don't think it'll ever happen. Go do your thing and prove me wrong. I'd happily accept that honestly just to change the story for once.

Damn dude. Whatever. Would you consider a Final 4 a worthless season?

No, because I'm an Iowa fan. I just wouldn't expect any other fanbase to give a shit about it. We've been living off of our final 4 run for the last 40 years. Nobody else even remembers it. That's the point. Only we remember it. Just like only ISU fans will care about, or remember, beating the #2 team during the regular season. Unless of course, they win it all...

Beating a top 10 teams for ISU is just par for the course. No one stormed the court, it was just another game in the Big 12. At least half of ISU's conference games will be against top 25 teams. A week ago someone listed the toughest SOS remaining, and all 14 Big 12 schools ranked as 1 through 14, and ISU was #1 on toughest remaining SOS. Win or lose, it is fun playing this kind of schedule. Next year, we get to add Arizona to the mix. Would not surprise me if Houston, Kansas, and Arizona make up 3 of the final four this year.

I mean this sincerely I feel bad for you.

That environment on Tuesday was incredibly fun, I had an absolute blast, and if my first thought was it was utterly meaningless unless we win the NCAA title I think it would reveal an absolute chasm in my soul.

Totally agree. I mean I don’t love Fran but he’s had us in the top 10, maybe even top 5 until of course the inevitable post season choke. The last 3-5 years with Luka and the Murray’s certainly brought some enjoyment over some long Winters. And we’ve also crushed Iowa St multiple times at Carver the last few years. Again, after 13 years or whatever Fran has been here without a signature win in the tourney I certainly understand the frustration. And of course lack of defense!

Honestly, the only fanbase that brings up "sweet 16" is ISU. It is the most pathetic measuring stick in any sports argument, and only used because it's the only thing in any sport that ISU has over Iowa. Outside of cross country of course. It's just fu**ing weird.

How many times have they made it the sweet 16 compared to Iowa in the last 20-30 years?

ISU doesn’t have more S16s than Iowa. Maybe over the past X years but not overall.
