Hawks trail 10-9 against the Buckeyes at intermission.

125- Cruz dec. over #12 McCrone, 3-0 IA

133- Davina tech. fall over Hernandez, 3-5 OSU

141- #1 Mendez tech. fall over Block, 3-10 OSU

149- #4 Parco dec. over Dominion, 6-10 OSU

157- #1 Teemer dec. over Sasso, 9-10 OSU

Great job by Keuter and Cruz. If Drake goes this could have been a blowout even with PK not having a great effort. This was a solid effort by the Hawks. I think 149, 157, 184, and 285 left some takedowns on the mat even though they won. Hope Drake is a minor injury. Cruz and Ben are starting to believe, which is huge.

Really happy to see the improvement from Cruz. Match of the day imo. But, he has basically hit the same move like 5-6 times in a row. Will need some variety soon.

Kennedy earned the spot, but man his offense is so limited. If he doesn't find a go to we are looking at limited points at nationals.

Good win by Ben but he was flirting with stalling.
PK probably isn't finishing top 3 at 174. He's a solid but limited wrestler whose ceiling is mid-level AA. And Kharchla is a guy he's going to have to face in the 4-6 range.

Today's results could flip on March but Kharchla looked as good as I've ever seen him. Good on him coming back from a bad injury.

No, we don't want our enemies to come back stronger than ever.

Regardless of what they say, they would wish the same of us, deep down.

Kennedy's offense is limited? He absolutely demolished all of his previous opponents and scored a load of points. He was probably sick; he hasn't looked like himself in this match.

Let's not get carried away. The simple truth is he ONLY had wrestled ONE guy ranked in the top 20 and that was Wask(#14) and he only beat him 6-2. In a similar fashion to Wilcke, everyone has become so anti-Brands that they are coloring PK in a light that he simply hasn't earned so far.

The dude(Brands) had only wrestled 2 matches and lost on a VERY close takedown to a guy that is now actually ranked ABOVE Kharchla. On top of that, he TF'd his next two guys and would almost certainly have beaten the guys PK has wrestled in a similar fashion.

If PK ends up being the guy, I will cheer for him as hard as anyone. But, again, let's not get carried away. The Kharchla result is much more indicative of where he stands against AA types at the weight, than most on here want to accept...

Edited to Add: Depending on which ranking, Ogunsanya would possibly be the 2nd in the top 20, being in the high teens and that result was 5-0. It's not like he has been blowing the doors off guys with a pulse prior to Kharchla...

In short, this was by far his best opponent. His schedule has been weak. Similar to how his U23 bracket was weak. He has to find a way to crank it up against better competition if he's going to get to the top half of the podium.

I guess the "In short" works if you want to completely disregard Brands. However, I am not so quick to do that. I am still not sold PK does better at NCAA's. Granted, all of that depends on the current status of Brands, since he hasn't wrestled in quite some time and everyone seems to have very tight lips as to why....

I think a good ole fashioned wrestle off between Brands and Kennedy would make sense for who should step on the mat next, when both are healthy obviously. I get it, familiarity plays a role but the season is winding down and whoever the guy is, needs the matches.

I would be curious to ask Gabe, Caliendo, and Angelo who they think would do the best at the national tournament. I know the coaches would never do this but those 3 would probably know better than anyone who they think is the best guy to score the most points come March.

Whoever can beat Penn State, is the answer......

Valid points, but Brands probably wouldn't light up the scoreboard as well, so we shouldn't get carried away :). We will see in the next two months, I guess...

However, we actually DO have empirical data that supports Brands over PK when it comes to NCAA performance at 174. Brands is 5-2 with a 5th place finish. PK is 3-2 and R12.

Now, am I saying it absolutely should be Brands? Nope. However, I cringe when I keep reading that PK has "earned" the spot based on his results so far. Maybe there is something behind the scenes that makes that statement true, but 8-1, with who he has wrestled so far, doesn't really stand out to me...

I felt the same way when SVN was being crowned thrashing lower ranked guys in the same fashion as PK. Impressive indeed, however, let’s see how it plays out against top level competitors.

Now I don’t think one bad loss warrants a knee jerk reaction. After all, SVN is still probably the best guy according to many posters here despite losing by bonus while relegating PK to JV.

We can agree to disagree on this one :)
