2024 Concert Plans

I saw the Pretenders on saturday night in DC, probably the best sound i've ever heard at a show.......until it went south when somebody/people wouldn't stop taking videos of Chrissie Hynde, she got pissed off, started getting angry at the world and everybody in her path, and seemingly switched the set and cut the show off early.

Neither Dave or Tony went up tonight. Not sure, but they must rotate the schedule. I thought that list was too big for a 3 hour show.

The show was pretty funny. Big Jay, Bobby Lee and Bert killed. Whitney was funny and clever.

I took my 16 y/o son, who is a big Kreischer fan. Had center stage, 2nd Row tickets. We ended up, not by choice, being part of Big Jays set. Probably 20 minutes of material that he tweaked to embarrass me and my son. We were on screen about 10 different times as some of the jokes were so bad, as in freaking dirty bad. Luckily my son is pretty mature and cool, he took it well. People were coming up to us during the break telling us we were good sports.

I missed this update. Freaking dirty bad? I assume it wasn't your disabled son that was the butt of the jokes?

Going to Green Day/Rancid in the Twin Cities in a couple of weeks.

Then Bad Religion is in Davenport in October, going to see them again

Chevelle tonight

Modest mouse and Pixies last month.

Haven't worked as many shows lately, still contemplating Marren Morris this Friday.

Going to see Umphrey's McGee with Eggy at the Salt Shed in August and Bob Weir and his band playing with the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra in November which I expect to be really unique sound and crowd.

Well, for my birthday, Aardvark Jr did in fact get me my Lyle Lovett and Large Band tix for Wolf Trap. In addition, I checked out the schedule for my new local venue in Lex (LimeKiln), and was initially very excited to see that Steep Canyon Rangers were playing, but alas, they'd already been there.

No, and it wasn’t my son with DS. He’s 24 and a comedy festival isn’t his thing to do. It’s also why my wife stayed back and didn’t attend. We were at our condo at the LOTO and didn’t want to leave him alone for that long on a Friday evening.

Raunchy is a better word to use. I wish I could remember it all. I keep thinking it’s going to pop up on YouTube sometime. No cameras were allowed during the show, but Fully Loaded was recording.

His 20 minutes revolved around horny older women and all the dirty things they do when the kids are out of the house. But instead of women, he used my wife, my son’s mom, as the example. He told my son that he had the most molestable face in the crowd. Which he tagged a funny line after asking him if me and his mom were still together.

See the two in the pic wearing the grey Hawk shirt and the NY Yankees jersey. That’s how exposed we were during the first half of the show.

Anyone going to the Chevelle concert tonight in Waukee? Saw them Sunday and they were incredible. Thinking about making the 90 mile drive to Waukee and see them again tonight.

Ah yeah, sitting ducks there. Perhaps a good lesson about being a good sport and maybe even how it feels to get picked on, although not necessarily a lesson one anticipates receiving at a comedy show.

It was all good. Before the show started I told him we were going to get picked on. My son was a good sport about it. During the entire BJO act, it was a combination of hysterical laughing and cringing.

Did you go?

Somebody walked up to me randomly last night and said "my man", I don't know if it was a drunk or one of you weirdos.

Anyway, chevelle was decent, tigercub opened for them, they were OK. Chevelle played In red like 2/3rds of the way through and it was basically a rush for the exits after that.

I won't say who it was or what band it was but I caught something kind of funny during sound check last night. The guy was going through the usual "checkkkkkk- check- check- checckkkkkkkk" with the sound guys and the sound guy goes "maybe that's just your voice" implying one of the guys sounded like shit.

Did not go.

I thought the opening bands sucked. I wonder if the early exits had more to do with it being a Tuesday night. Leaving after The Red means they missed Comfortable Liar, Vitamin R, Forfeit, Send the Pain Below, I Get It and Mars Simula. Both I Get It and Mars Simula were so freaking good and a great encore. I’m always amazed that a 3 piece can get that kind of sound and fullness to their music. I loved their stage set up. Sam L on drums, front stage and left and highlighted was pretty cool.

You are being kind to the openers. 😉

Tuesday night likely had something to do with it.

We walked out of both. Omaha’s Steelhouse has a huge outside patio with tables and cornhole sets. I gave both bands a chance, we decided to get outside and enjoy the beautiful night until Chevelle Took the stage. Return to Dust was heavy, but all their songs sounded exactly the same. Tigercub was boring and weird. Not a style of music I enjoy. Not sure what musical category they should be lumped into.

So they did keep the same acts.

Yeah, return to dust was rough.

If tigercub couldn't lean on the "he we are Swedish, that is cool yeah" or whatever the f* Scandinavian country they are from they also would be garage band caliber.

I just saw Lovett last weekend. Great show.

Just bought tickets for Los Lobos in November. They've been on my bucket list for a long time.

Going to see Willie tomorrow night at our fantastic outdoor venue here in Southern Oregon (Britt Festival). Will be a great time even though Willie obviously won't put on the same show he did 25+ years ago when I first saw him live.

Rough summer of the 80s for me so far -

Joan Jett looked and sounded like a corpse
The Pretenders got pissed and basically ended the show
Aerosmith cancels and retires

For anybody making bets, that means the Boss will cancel at some point before he hits DC and Baltimore in September

Welp, had tickets to see Blink 182 this weekend in St. Louis and it was just cancelled. It's a bummer because I've wanted to see them live as long as I can remember.

That really sucks. We saw them Tuesday in Minneapolis for our anniversary. I'd never seen them before. It was absolutely incredible, but they did say Tom had a cold. He was spraying cough medicine frequently.

Being in Iowa, it kinda sucks that St. Louis is the last of the nearby cities on the tour. Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, KC and St. Louis are all kind of similar distances but a Saturday worked out better

I originally had this plan of going to Metallica in Chicago Friday, then down to StL for Blink Sat, then back to Chicago for Metallica night 2 on Sunday. But I had to work. Glad that didn't work out, now.

Got the Marshall Tucker band, with remaining original lead vocalist Doug Gray, in October.

Also in October is the Oak Ridge Boys, who just lost Joe Bonsall, and back up band member Rusty Golden, son of William Lee Golden.

Got a couple of local tribute bands as well.

Dwight Yoakam with The Mavericks last night at the Pinewood Bowl in Lincoln. Great show. Dwight sounded great. Came away really impressed with The Mavericks. What a fun band to see live. While they were performing, I discovered the lead singer Raul Malo announced in June that he has Intestinal cancer. They recently cancelled some summer shows. Glad he was feeling good enough to play live. Tons of energy with The Mavericks.

However, I freaking hate The Pinewood Bowl. After several years of avoiding this venue, I had hopes they fixed their bathroom issue. Not enough porta potties and the lines were ridiculous. It’s been an issue for years and it appears they just aren’t going to fix it.

Oh, and too many Husker fans. That’s almost worse than the bathroom situation.

In this moment/ Ice9kills last Sat.

Smashing pumpkins at vibrant tonight.
Underwhelmed.

It was cool to hear some of the classics but 40 years or whatever has certainly had an impact. He still went for the top gear on "tonight" but kinda hedge everything else.

Just flying back from Nashville where the wifey (no pics) saw Glass Animals. Holy shit what a hell of a show. I can't even compare them to anyone but the crowd was huge and loud. You could tell they loved being in the Music City.

May- Seattle Night 1 +2 Pearl Jam
Early August Dead and Company at the Sphere
Aug 30th- Pearl Jam Wrigley Night #2

New PJ album is their best in years since at least 2006 Avocado imo. How’d you like the Seattle shows? They are playing a lot off the new album

Tonight starts the back-to-back-to-back nights with Goose at the Salt Shed, hoping to catch most all of my favorites over the three nights.

Been to Salt Shed!?!
Love the venue! The concourse and setup is great, and so clean too.

At an age now too where don’t care to be in the pit, but the bleacher/seats in the back are so nice!
