2025 MBB Recruiting Thread

FWIW, he's from West Fargo. Dad played football for the Bison. Several fishing buddies from the Fargo area feel he is ND bound. Fran offered late hoping for a Moreno or Riebe commitment, we are not on their radars anymore. Gilhool is a possibility and visits a month earlier. I don't think Tommy will ever make it to Iowa City in October.

Edit: ND academics and their business network after college are huge draws but I'm hearing NIL from the West could change his mind. I don't think Hawks are in his top three, FWIW.

I get the local affiliation, but playing b-ball at Iowa is a much higher level than ND. But taking from your fishing mention, some like being the bigger fish in the smaller pond.

I know we got Luke Recker as a transfer, but is Brad Lohaus the last AZ kid we got an actual commit from?

Aaron Fuller, 2008-09 recruit from Mesa, AZ is the last I recall.

As an aside, Brad Lohaus is originally from southern MN and I believe even started his HS career in MN before he transferred down to AZ - his parents moved down there during his HS years or something to that effect as I recall. Not entirely sure so don't hold me to that one.

A very minor IA Hoops claim to fame... a friend of mine and I met up with Brad Lohaus and Bart Casey on the second tee box at Ellis Golf Course in Cedar Rapids briefly as play was backed up. Both seemed like nice guys from the brief interaction we had.

4 star shooting guard Simon Walker will be visiting on Sep 7 (Iowa State football game, which will be televised on CBS)

I give credit to Fran and his assistants for lining up a quality list of visitors this fall. Our chances go up significantly if we get them on canpus. Sounds liike he'd like to take four in the 2025 class

Point gusrd is critical and two good shooting wings. An athletic big is also a big need.

Fran is a helluva salesman because we all know he doesn't have tons of NIL money to throw around

I think Fran takes at least 3 in this class, maybe 4; Iowa will lose 3 seniors next spring and will be down to 9 scholarship players.

On the positive side: of Iowa's top 10 players this season, just 2 seniors.

I posted this on June 5, wondering if this would be the rotations:

Starting 5:
6’3” PG Drew Thelwell (SR)
6'5" SG Josh Dix (JR)
6'7" F Payton Sandfort (SR)
6’7” PF Seydou Traore (SO)
6'10" C Owen Freeman (SO)

Next 5 off the bench:
6'0" PG Brock Harding (SO)
6'7" F Cooper Koch (FR)
6'7" F Pryce Sandfort (SO)
6'8" PF Ladji Dembele (SO)
6'8" PF Chris Tadjo (FR)

Other 2 scholarship players:
6'11" C Riley Mulvey (JR)
6'9" F/C Even Brauns (SR)

They must have more funds to work with. They wouldn’t be getting these visits from Top 100 kids if they weren’t at least competitive on the money side of things.
Even if football is getting the bulk of NIL funds, you only need to attract 3-4 recruits for BB. I don't understand how any of the available funds work there way down to the athletes. B1G schools should all be getting a LOT from TV, attendance, and other revenues.

The money isn’t coming from the schools. NIL and the money schools make off their deals are separate.

Oh, hah, had, hah. You are fricking hilarious. My buddies in Fargo never let me forget who beat the Hawks in Kinnick. The Bison!

In addition to the quality of recruits the staff is getting visits scheduled with. I think the high number of visits is also a positive. I think Fran in the past scheduled far too few visits and then was left without a lot of options when the top targets went elsewhere.
