2025 Vacation Plans

I didn’t see any red MAGA caps, so we probably didn't cross paths.
Wore mine the whole trip. Lots of compliments. Had one guy buy our lunch in sorrento. Only negative comments from a couple ugly lesbians in almalfi square.

I have zero interest in a safari. The unrest over such a wide portion of the Continent is a bit too scary and the sort of fake stagey viewing of the animals does not appeal to me in the least. But that’s just me.
We have friends that did a safari last summer. Spectacular pics! You are really “out there” in the middle of no where, too… but think of it…riding an elephant!

Now my wife wants to go on a Caribbean cruise, I’m not sold on it. Other than the cost(yes I’m a poor) I’m also concerned about sea sickness.
I realize that cruise ships are huge but is sea sickness still an issue?
Which cruise lines are the best?
Which destinations would you recommend. Would our 4 teenagers enjoy it?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Viking uses MUCH smaller ships! Around 900 folks as opposed to the 2-4K most other lines pack on board.

i want to do a cross country amtrak trip and am pondering about taking amtrak from lax to ft madison, ia. then drive to IC and chill for a couple days (haven't been to ic in 25 years) and then chicago for a few. is this a reasonable idea or will i be the first to put IC on a non-football game vacation itinerary? :) or is it a better idea to take amtrak from sf to chi (this will ikely be my only longish amtrak attempt)?

While I'm in Panama, I can go on a canoe ride to hang out with an indigenous tribe for a few hours. Is this a stagey view too?

All my "vacations" this year are long distance weddings of family and friends. Some getting married on the beach, and others in the mountains.

Since I’ve no familiarity with Panama (or Africa)
I won’t offer any travel advice. But if you disappear suddenly I won’t be upset…

Wow, you really are a cold-hearted meany. But how do you know I'm not a bot? Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm not sure you aren't a bot.

Noted, thanks. Like I said I’m not sold on a cruise anyway so this information is very useful. I’d rather go to Colorado or Utah and hike.
FYI I have done both - cruised AND gone to Colorado and Utah.
We went to Colorado every August when we lived in Texas (and saw thousands of other Texas people escaping the heat).
Loved it every time and the Utah scenery is beyond amazing.
I haven’t seen anyone mention Lake Tahoe yet - that place is just gorgeous. Worth a trip!

Sigh…a stalking bot.
Where’s that Connor kid when you need him?

FYI girly bots don’t have wrinkles. 🤖

Will start with doing some spring training during spring break. I have a lot of work travel planned this year (San Antonio, Boston, Colorado Springs, Washington DC, et al). Trying to figure out the family trip for the summer. I want to make the ASG in Atlanta and have a hotel close to Truist Park, but tickets are damn expensive.
Going to San Antonio for a conference tomorrow. Excited as I have never been. Also mad because it is a 5:30AM flight and I did not realize it was Monday after Super Bowl when I booked. Pretty sure I am just going to stay up.

I’ve been to Colorado and Utah also. Both are great and you’re right, the scenery in Utah is gorgeous.

That 5:30 AM Delta flight is brutal no matter the day.

Planning on Colorado sometime later summer - thinking SW this time, looking into the Keys for a second time for our anniversary.

Loved the first trek down to the Keys a couple years back, but so much more that I would love to see and do.

Wait, I thought you said the animals were staged in Africa?
The folks who sign up for a safari tour spend a considerable sum of money to see wildlife and I have friends who have taken those tours. The animals hear the vehicles and are accustomed to being around them. My friends told me their guides hinted that the animals might even get food tossed from time to time. Staged wouldn’t really be an accurate description.
I’m just repeating what they shared.

Fair enough. She’s still a horrible person who wished someone would die, but it’s time for some alcohol.
You don’t know me at all and I’ve never wished anyone on this site would die, including you.
Okay - I think I told a very sad alcoholic who no longer posts here to “DIAF” but he went on a horrid drunken name calling rant and deserved it.

Alcohol is full of empty calories and you are supposed to be counting yours, aren’t you?

Sorry, you wished he would disappear. Still horrible.

So were the names he used. I’m not accustomed to shrinking up in a corner when some drunk was incapable of logical or civil interaction and I push back. You of all people should understand that. 😜

What names were you offended by? I didn't know you so thinned skin, although you are ready at a moment's notice to go into the attack mode.

I think you might guess what THAT word might be and it is extremely low class. Made in response to a political question and not even to or about another poster. Unnecessarily personal.

I may come across to you as “thin skinned” but yes I will bite back when I’m attacked. When I was widowed it changed me in that regard. No one looks out for me but me. I’m far more tactful and nice in real life than I might seem to be on a message board. On here it’s win or go home. 😉

Agreed. I personally would put Slovenia a close second.

Have some great pics from up there.
I would also put Slovenia a close second! Sometimes first! What other country can take you from the Alps to the city to the Adriatic in just a couple hours drive?
