*** #21 Iowa vs #23 Ohio State WBB Game ***

Ehh Bluder said she was very concerned about our injuries in the postgame conference. “I am very concerned. We only have so many bodies left…It’s hard when you are losing your starters like that.” Credit to https://iowa.rivals.com/news/buckeyes-top-hawkeyes
We listened to the post game radio coverage and Bluder was concerned about the injuries. Made comments similar to those in the article and seemed to be concerned about Gabbie's shoulder. I've never heard her express so much frustration with calls ( or lack there of) and the physical nature of the game ("this wasn't basketball tonihgt") and seemed to be calling out McGuff. Hope Gabbie and McKenna are able to play Thursday. With Cook, Goodman, Wetering, Ediger out we're down to 9 players.

When the ball is in your hands for 90% of the game, I am not sure 7 TOs against a top 25 team is that bad of a ratio.
Clark is for sure a generational talent. She is ultra creative with the ball and some of her turnovers are the result of her seeing things others don't. However, she does also play too fast and reckless at times. Just playing a little bit more under control will cut her turnovers down to a more acceptable total. She will never be a low turnover player because of her skills. Sounds like a contradiction but really it's not.

She does talk a lot of trash and getting it back is part of the deal. I'm sure she understands that.
Maybe not if she was really complaining to the refs.
Her facial looks after her 3's should be addressed by Bluder.
You don't see much of that on the men's team. More a quiet confidence look.

Yup and that was crap as well. But her watching the layup was well before that.
They are like the men: can be very entertaining to watch on one end of the court and then maddening on the other end.
99% of the time Gabbie is a lockdown defender. I can forgive her for a lapse now and then. They don't come often. She was instrumental in shutting down Burton vs NW. I think we can all agree we hate when the lapses occur. But there are other players who have way more lapses that should be singled out for criticism.

Most worried about McKenna. She's taking quite the beating so far. Martin was also banged up per Bluder. The refs are very inconsistent and tend to call weak fouls on Iowa and don't call blatant fouls on our opponents.

So you'd be OK with her running down the court flashing the 3 sign - as nearly every basketball player does now? And if you are referring to Legend's comments, even though he may be courtside, there is literally no way to hear exactly what is said all around the court. Maybe she was complaining about the little cheap shots that are pretty easily thrown in games? I'm going to guess it was fairly significant last night. Just a hunch. The OSU player came over to her at the end of the game and if I recall correctly, even touched her. Clark said F (assumption) off and I'm completely good with that.

I would agree that the shrug was probably a bit much. But i for one like the "red ass" approach to the game.

Legend is always right, right??
Just saying she could tone it down a bit.
Being over the limit makes you a target that can get into her head and she loose focus and
make mistakes that can cost Iowa the game in certain ways. She did have 7 of the 14 turnovers and some poor
shots trying to force the ball up in bad situations.
Just saying.

Not ripping Clark, just Sports in general, but I could do without all the "gestures" in today's Sports period. We all saw the play, we know what happened without your "gesture" or "look at me" moment. We're happy for you, we saw it, play on.

You have guys in the NFL down 40 in the 4th quarter and they make a run of the mill tackle and celebrate like they made the winning play in the Super Bowl. Super Pathetic is far more accurate.

Keegan Murray makes one of the greatest plays you'll ever see on a basketball court last night at the end of regulation, and he just smiles and makes a simple hand down gesture that the basket should count, it's in. And it did. No chest pounding, no shirt tugging, no in your face primal scream (had to avoid a running chest bump from JBo who's brick made that all-time highlight reel possible). He gets it, and should be a poster child for the rest of the sports world of how to conduct yourself on a court, field, etc.

All that "look at me" shit does is promote bad blood in games where tensions are already high. Get over yourself and play on. And get off my Fing lawn! 🙂

My point was more that it was glaring and precisely by one of our better defenders. The amount and two of lapses on the defensive end are plentiful as we all know. None of the gals are perfect and don’t expect them to be but too often the “pick up game” feeling takes over.

I thought Gabby and Kylie and Tomi did a good job chasing Ohio State's two elite guards around for most of the first three quarters anyway. They held them to roughly their season averages. My impression was we were running on fumes by the fourth quarter. And I have yet to see anyone criticize Ohio State's defense for giving up 88 points.

It's layup drill on both ends of the court for a long period of the game. Later on the interior defense did get shored up. But several Ohio State players were still able to finish in the paint with tough shots. Iowa not so much except Clark.

I'm OK with turnovers when trying to make passes. But last night, at the critical juncture, with the lead, Clark had the ball stolen twice in a row, kick or no kick. She was not paying attention to the defender in front of her, protecting the ball while dribbling. It's not like somebody sneaked up from behind, or that she tried to pass and there was a miscommunication. Her mind seemed to be elsewhere. Maybe she's playing to the home crowd. It feels like on the road she is more attentive of the game situation. I say get a few people to heckle her during home games to keep her grounded.

I don't think you can say "kick or no kick." If we're just going to ignore the rules of the game, I promise there will be plenty more turnovers from all players.

Defenders don't normally stick their foot out in situations like that because a kicked ball doesn't help them and their foot being out puts them in bad defensive position. If we're just going to ignore the kick rule moving forward, everyone will stick their foot out because there's a decent chance it results in a turnover.

Watching the video of the "kick" of the ball by the Ohio State player makes one wonder how the call could be blown by the officials; the action was essentially at middle court, the line of sight by two officials was completely unobstructed and the defender was in an upright position with no means to make contact with her hands. ( the obviousness of the call is confirmed by the fact that virtually all of the players on the court paused their play in anticipation of the whistle, which indicates they each saw what had happened.) l I have to believe that the violation was one of the most obvious calls of the entire game. Iowa was ahead by 3 at the time and there was 8 seconds on the shot clock and 2 minutes left to play. The entire dynamics of the balance of the game was changed with the 2, maybe 4/5 point, swing in the score resulting from the missed call. Water over the damn at this point, but it still sucks! I hope the team's response is to reinforce purposefulness, not crying over their clear misfortune. '

In the press conference, Caitlin and Monika talked about how this is going to fuel them and light a fire under them so I believe they won't be stuck on this one and are moving on to the next.

Well, she's definitely not protecting the ball nor paying attention to the defender, because she got her pocket picked again on the next possession.

This.

The next possession was inexcusable. I agree about that. But I can't blame Clark for the kicked ball where her defender lunged a foot in as she was beginning to drive. That's why the kicked ball rule exists.

Hope Bluder prepares them for more physicality in the coming games. It's the Izzo strategy to constantly push the envelope and force the officials hands.....it really seemed to affect Iowa and I look for more teams to use it. Clark thinks s he gets fouled every time she touches the ball. Even if she does, the officials aren't going to call every one.......

Two things stand out on that possession. 1) Clark had no outlet and no one comes to help and 2) Ricky Harris is draped around her back. It was practically a hold. I'm sure there was body contact that was not called but could have been.

The turnovers are not all on Clark. Clark plays her ass off on every play. Yes she makes mistakes but the whole team is making mistakes. And because no one else on the floor can penetrate or is even willing to penetrate the defense zeroes in on Clark.

The staff is also responsible for failing to recruit players around her that can create their own shot. Until other players show they can get to the rim or free themselves for a jumper Clark is going to be harassed and there will be turnovers.

If I were Bluder, I would sit Gabbie and Kate and start Kylie and Tomi because they at least try and drive once in a while. Bluder has said the players can't stand around like goldfish waiting to be fed but for the most part they have in all but one game this season.

Iowa had 14 total turnovers. Clark had 7 of the 14.

Woof

Iowa shot 61% from the field and somehow lost. Well, we know why they lost; their D cost them.
To be fair Clark handles the ball on EVERY time up the floor. Some of her team mates still have trouble with some of her passes. Still her turnovers are down from last season.....

Absolutely. The crap in football games amazes me. Guy gets pushed up and down the field all day and he makes one fricken play and stomps around in the backfield, like they just won the game. Frankly could also do with out all the FIRST DOWN signals from players....

Giving up 92 points is totally unacceptable. Never have seen so many uncontested layups along with far too many instances of no one blocking out on rebounds. Lisa needs to get the defense corrected ASAP.

Also, her teammates get caught standing around watching versus making cuts and opening passing lanes.
