Aiden Riggins

Now, now, be a gracious winner. Remember what Red Green said. I'm a man, I can change, if I have to, I guess.

Oh yea, woohoo. Go Hawks!!
This is too much fun and I know for a fact, a large number of ISU fans read this forum.

Hell, some of my comments in past years made their board.

And I've been banned there, so it's my only avenue to rub salt.

PS... apologies to Crabby and Tiger guy for kinda being a Richard.;)

Hawks will still pretty much "cherry pick' the Iowa high schoolers. Then some of the others will go to UNI/Wartburg/Upper Iowa.

If there's any left after that, Dresser will gobble them up. They'll get a kid from Cresco or Albia. But those guys will see how there are so few decent workout partners in the room and then they will enter the "portal".

JMO.

BTW: It's amazing how often the supposed ISU "insiders" are wrong in their predictions. Buffy seems like a decent fellow, but he's so full of crap most of the time.

I think it's difficult to comprehend how such an electric crowd at Kinnick and Hawkeye fan's enthusiasm can affect high school recruits... in any sport.

TnT might want to send a "thank you" note to Kirk and Co.:)
Tom gets some credit. I was fired up after his interview and the crowd got really loud when the team was on the field. He relished the moment and came through.

He has taken officials to Purdue, Michigan, SDSU, ISU and this weekend Iowa. Figure a commit to one of them will come after this weekend. ISU fans believe it will be them cause of close relationship with DSJ. I believe the family is die hard Hawk fans. Will see what happens. I hope he is a Hawk.
DSJ’s family were big Hawk fans too

And for the last week or so, Clone fans, at least a few, said Riggins was "theirs to lose".

NEWSFLASH... you lost again.

Now for the comments from Dresser that he was just forcing the Hawks to spend scholly $$$.

Buffy said this week that Riggins was down to Michigan and ISU. Proves once again just how ignorant their fans are.
He was actually leaning heavy towards Purdue. Iowa stole him no doubt.

Man oh man. Losing him to the Hawks could be expected. But can you imagine if ole Dresser would have lost a recruiting battle to Purdue?

So now the Clones aren't even runnerups for kids... they're "sloppy thirds"? To quote CyTwit.."Yikes".

KD probably looking to add some positions to the RTC. Seems that's the only way to get good wrestling recruits.

Riggins is a great recruit at a need weight. I think both parties in this commitment are going to benefit greatly.

Is he a 57 or 65 projected?

I could see him anywhere from 65-84. Seems to be still getting bigger and stronger which is scary considering the way he moves. Huge ceiling for him and I like Mitch said, I think both parties will benefit greatly from this commitment.
Totally agree. Seems to me watching from the outside, that there will be lots of options for Mr. Riggins.

Unlike the Ballweg kids, this WSR dude will be a force, imo.

Do you guys really think a recruit makes this decision based on a football game crowd?

No, but it certainly doesn’t hurt in helping them decide. You’re committing to a whole campus and fandom. It definitely makes a difference, some kids more than others.
I want kids who put more thought into that recruiting process than that. the kid who comes to town knowing he’s going to commit.

Game day commitments tend to get excited by the next game day visit. And that can lead to changed minds and premature celebrations.

The recruits got to rush the field after a big time game and a great day in IC. Part of recruiting is selling a brand and yesterday couldn't have been scripted better for the Iowa brand. Speaking of Brands, heard he gave a helluva hype speech on the field as his team got recognized for winning the NCAAs.

So yea, I don't think recruits sign because of a football game but the atmosphere couldn't have hurt.

Who are you suggesting didn’t put enough “thought” into it?

Doesn’t most every college football game have a big atmosphere around it?

Any kid who commits due to game day. I don’t think it happens.

Too bad they didn't consult you on when they should commit.

I'm sure the team and the recruits hated hearing the reaction when Brands spoke to the crowd.
Why go there? I’m sure everyone enjoyed it. But what’s gonna happen to some starry eyed recruit, caught up in that moment in IC… When the time comes to visit L’Ames, in all its glory?

Will the kid be strong enough to NOT fall for THEIR dog and pony show? And even if they are, what happens when that recruit finally gets hit with the 7-11 assistant manager internship program?

Think about it….

You think the reaction to Dresser in Ames would be the same as Brands in Iowa City?

No need to continue this discussion if you believe that.

A bit off the Riggins discussion, but I wonder if Tate N is just trolling ISU with the recent visit because he seems like someone destined to wrestle in IC?

Maybe TnT just trying to force Dresser to tie up resources before he commits to the good guys.

No. I don’t think that. But I also don’t believe for one minute that this type of decision should be made on impulse due to atmosphere of a big football game.

I’m guessing there is WAY more going on behind the scenes on a day like yesterday as far as recruiting details and commitments are concerned.

But that big day should be the icing on the cake….. and a hoot for the fans.

I get what you’re saying but that might not be what happened.

Also, probably some historical examples for consideration. I don’t think Jesuroga and Riggins were the first two to verbal the day of a big visit, although I can’t say who else. Anyone verbal day of Grapple on the Gridiron?

Neither does anyone else here. You seem to be stuck on trying make a point that everyone already agrees with.
