13 Remaining Regular Season Games:

Jan 21 vs Indiana

F Nebraska.

This news won't help in getting the Jan 24 postponed game in.

Luckily Luka is still on track to become #1 no later than Feb 28 with at least 2 regular season games to spare.

Luka's Current PPG, B1G Games only, 2020-2021: 24.9 (199 pts/8 games)

From yesterday's (Jan 27) press conference:

Q. When you recruited Garza (1,963 career points), Bohannon (1,457), Wieskamp (1,041), did you think they had the potential to be 1,000-point scorers or has any of that surprised you?

FRAN McCAFFERY:
No, I think I would have expected them all to be 1,000-point scorers, and I think they would have expected it, too. You don't always think of a guy being a 2,000-point scorer. That's a little different.

But as I've said many times, I felt that Luka would be a star in this league pretty much from the minute he got here. To put the numbers up he did as a freshman is really hard to do in this league, and he was terrific, and I thought he was really good with Tyler.

So it's been fun watching those guys produce the way that they have. I'm proud of them, but I'm happy for them. Happy for them, happy for their families.

Pretty good company

Their math is correct.

Iowa's highest scoring trio (Armstrong, Horton, Marble) in program history with 5,193 points. Bohannon, Garza, Wieskamp are second with 4,461 points... and counting.

2,116...Roy Marble (4 yrs: 1986-1989, 134 GP, .539 FG%,, 15.8 ppg; 26 three pt goals)

1,705...BJ Armstrong (4 yrs: 1986-1989, 130 GP, .492 FG%,, 13.1 ppg; 136 three pt goals)

1,372...Ed Horton (4 yrs: 1986-1989, 131 GP, .516 FG%,, 10.5 ppg; 1 three pt goals)
..........................................
5,193 TOTAL POINTS
======================

.................................................................................................

1,963...Luka Garza (4 yrs: 2018-2021, 111 GP, .555 FG%, 17.7 ppg; 100 three pt goals)

1,457...Jordan Bohannon (4+ yrs: 2017-2019, 10 games in 2020 & 2021; 127 GP, .390 FG%, 11.5 ppg; 323 three pt goals)

1,041...Joe Wieskamp (3 yrs: 2019-2021, 81 GP, .463 FG%, 12.9 ppg; 138 three pt goals)

The 11 Remaining Regular Season Games:

Feb 2 vs Michigan State (Jan 14 game was POSTPONED due to MSU covid issues)
Feb 4 vs Ohio State
Feb 7 at Indiana

Feb 10 vs Rutgers (would need to average 33.8 ppg over these 4 games to PASS Roy Marble)

The orig post has been updated with all of the stats.

Note that Joe W (1,060) passed Reggie Evans (1,054) last night.

Joe has 11 regular season games, the BTT and the NCAA Tournament to score 171 points, which would allow him to pass @PHawkKenyon for #25 on the list.

#25 Kenyon Murray...1,230
(4 yrs: 1993-1996, 124 GP, .462 FG%, 9.9 ppg; 49 three pt goals)

Joe Wieskamp...1,060 (3 yrs: 2019-2021, 82 GP, .463 FG%, 12.9 ppg; 143 three pt goals)

Will Garza set a FG% record as well? His shooting percentage is pretty amazing, especially in the era of 3 point shooting.

I would think so. And who da thunk Tyler Cook would be on this list of 5?

.552 Luka Garza (2018-present)
.545 Greg Stokes (1982-1985)...35 years ago
.543 John Johnson (1969-1970)...50 years ago
.542 Tyler Cook (2017-2019)

.539 Roy Marble (1986-1989)...31 years ago

Its amazing how consistent Luka has been.

On Dec 5, he was at .552
On Feb 3, he is at .553

So if we get all 22 remaining games in and only 1 game in each tourney he’d need to average 17 to pass Marble. If he can average 20+ will only need 20 games. If avg 24, only needs 17 games. #WearYourMask ;)
Amazing, isn't it, how on Dec 12 we were all trying to calculate when he might break the record?

In B1G games only, he is averaging 24.5 ppg, so he likely needs 5 games to get the 108 points that will break the Iowa all time record on Feb 18.

Luckily, he will have 4 or 5 (if Nebraska is rescheduled) regular season games to pad the record.

Next 5 games:
Feb 4 vs OSU
Feb 7 at IU
Feb 10 vs Rutgers
Feb 13 at MSU
Feb 18 at Wisconsin

As I recall Iowa was without Lester for several game his Sr year when the went to the Final Four. Not sure how many games he missed but he was not100% when he returned.
Lester missed a number of games and certainly was not healthy when he came back. Still my all-time favorite Hawkeye. Garza has a pretty good shot at getting in the top 5 and that's likely where he will stay. Top scorers just won't be around that long anymore.

I’d say it’s too bad he likely won’t do it at home, but I guess without fans maybe that doesn’t matter. Are MSU and Wisconsin allowing parents to attend?

After tonight's game:

1 Roy Marble...2,116 (4 yrs: 1986-1989, 134 GP, .539 FG%,, 15.8 ppg; 26 three pt goals)

Getting closer!

The stats in the orig post have been updated.

In B1G games only this season, he is averaging 23.7 ppg (261 points/11 B1G games).

When it comes to All Time Scoring:

(1) If he keeps the 23.7 ppg up, at the end of the regular season he will be at 2,238 career points, which would be #7 on the B1G All Time Scoring List.

(2) At 23.7 ppg, he likely needs 4 games to get the 92 points that will break the Iowa all time record on Feb 18.

Luckily, Luka will have 4 or 5 ADDITIONAL (if Nebraska is rescheduled) regular season games to pad the Iowa All Time record.

Iowa's Next 4 Games:
Feb 7 at IU
Feb 10 vs Rutgers
Feb 13 at MSU
Feb 18 at Wisconsin

I'm presuming you got the B10 all time scoring list from Sports Reference, but that one only goes back to '85. Here is the list with the extra few guys mixed in like Mount and Alford. He may still get to top 6 though at his current rate if they play Nebraska and a Big Ten Tourney.

Since my other list still missed some guys, I just looked up each of the real B10 schools individually to see who else we left out. Luka should pass them all anyway, but you can add a few more. Surprised the Gophers never had a 2000 point scorer though, Mychal Thompson missed it by 8 points.

2222 Gary Grant Michigan
2192 Don Schlundt Indiana
2175 Joe Barry Carroll Purdue
2096 Dennis Hopson Ohio State
2074 Dale Schellhase Purdue
2038 Troy Lewis Purdue (just passed him last game)

You'd think they'd just put out a B10 media guide that would make this list much simpler!

and why would that reference web site cut off at the year 1986? just makes this all the more difficult.....grrrrrrrrrrrr

and why would that reference web site cut off at the year 1986? just makes this all the more difficult.....grrrrrrrrrrrr

Originally it was just Baseball-Reference but then they gradually added all the other sports over the past 15 years Even just a year ago a lot of the stats for some college basketball even as recent as the mid-90s were copies of the handwritten final stats from the school that got uploaded, so they've come a long way from that and it's probably why it will take some time to update those career lists. All the BJ, Marble, Horton years were still just handwritten copies until this past year but now they have their own profiles. For college football, they still don't have the bowl stats for every year added in (they used to count as exhibitions so even the schools themselves didn't always include them pre-96 or whenever they changed that for NCAA stats purposes). So Chuck Long for instance only has his 1984 Freedom Bowl stats for some reason but not his other four bowl games. It's still my go to for all sports stats though, but there are still some gaps to fill in.

As you can see in the original post...

When it comes to All Time Scoring:

(1) Luka (2,065) passed Mike Woodson (2,061) of Indiana for 26th on the B1G All Time scoring list.

(2) If he keeps the 23.2 ppg up, at the end of the regular season he will be at 2,227 career points, which would be #8 on the B1G All Time Scoring List (the current #8 is 2,224 points, Louis Bullock, Michigan).

(3) At 23.2 ppg, he likely needs 2 (possibly 3) games to get the 52 points that will break the Iowa all time record on Feb 18 or Feb 21.

Luckily, Luka will have 4 or 5 ADDITIONAL (if Nebraska is rescheduled) regular season games to pad the Iowa All Time record.

Iowa's Next 3 Games:
Feb 13 at MSU
Feb 18 at Wisconsin
Feb 21 vs Penn State
