ALL Time Scoring Lists: Luka (2,306 Pts) is #7 on the B1G ALL Time Scoring List. JBo is #9 & Weezy #24 on Iowa's ALL Time Scoring List

Listened to it on the radio when he dropped 60! on the hawks in a Purdue loss....... o_O

The first video below is 5 minutes. Rick had a beautiful shot. Imagine if he had played as a freshman.

And did you know he almost left the state of Indiana to play at Miami (FL)?

As you will see in the first video, his first game in 1967 was also at the brand new Mackey Arena vs #1 UCLA, John Wooden and Lew Alcindor. Tickets were going for $50.

The 2nd video is from his sophomore season.

The 3rd video is the 1969 NCAA Championship game (Purdue vs UCLA). Rick makes his first 2 jump shots.

Rick wore #10.

Garza, Weisy, JBo - 78 points, 2 games at 40 per game (Sweet 16)
Mount 2,323, Garza 2,246 - 78 points, 4 games at 20/game (Elite Eight). Go Hawks!

As mentioned above, Luka probably needs 3 NCAA Tournament games (and 78 points) to PASS #6 Rick Mount of Purdue.

Luka is averaging just under 24 ppg for the season,

Rick Mount (1968-1970)
was an amazing shooter and scorer. He got to 2,323 points in just 72 games over three seasons. He had a 32.3 ppg average for his career (compared to 18.0 ppg for Luka). Rick's career average is by far the best in B1G history.

@combes @IlliniHoops91 @Fighter of the Nightman @Booty Maximus , over the last 4 months we have been discussing Garza shooting up both the Iowa & B1G ALL Time scoring lists. I am surprised there are not more Illini players on the B1G ALL Time List.

Instead, you have just Deon Thomas.

Illini have historically had pretty balanced teams, especially their better teams. Usually 3-4 guys all between 10-15 ppg. This year is a little unusual with Ayo and Kofi scoring so much. And of course neither will stay around 4 seasons to move up on these lists. Have to have that specific balance of being good enough to play early and play well, but not good enough to leave early.

on that list of 29, how far back can you go where you remember the person playing? did you see Rick Mount play, for example?

its too back there is not more video of some of these legends

Mount was before my time. On that list I guess Just Barely Carroll is the earliest guy I remember watching. Or Just Breathing Carroll if you prefer. That dude had the laid back personality.

thanks for the feedback; its always s interesting to talk about not only the greats from your own school but from across the B1G

As expected, Luka climbed to #7 on the B1G ALL Time Scoring List after the Grand Canyon game (he needed just 18 points; he had 24).

Luka probably needs 2-3 more NCAA Tournament games (and 54 points) to PASS #6 Rick Mount.

Luka is averaging just under 24 ppg for the season. Even if Iowa makes it to the National Championship game (5 more games), the highest Luka will climb is #6 on the B1G All Time Scoring List.

Number of NCAA Tournament Games at 24 ppg:

1 more game (vs Oregon)--2,294 points
2 more games--2,318 points (Six Points from #6 ALL Time)
3 more games--2,342 points (#6 ALL Time)
4 more games--2,366 points
5 more games --2,390 (#6 ALL Time)

I am quite confident in saying we will likely never see a player like him at Iowa again. 2x B1G Player of the Year. National Player of the Year. All time scoring leader.
