If you look good, you feel good. If you fell good, you play good.
The same guys who b1tch that Kirk isn't open to new things, b1tch when we actually try new things.
You act as if these kids don't bust their ass every day for the University and don't deserve an alternate uniform.
While I don't disagree, I think most of the people wanting new things are looking for changes in the coaches' game-day philosophy and the team's preparation/performance, not what the uniforms look like. The two ideas are not necessarily tied together. You can change your offensive scheme without changing the uniform, or vice-versa, and changing one is not a good indicator of whether the other will ever change.
"Look at me, look at me!" is not the right lesson. Now, "look at me make the game saving tackle" or "look at me visit the children's hospital" or "Look at me make academic all-american" or even "look at me get drafted" are all good. They are accomplishments. "Look at me" in a flashy uniform someone else created is not a player accomplishment.
It won't be enough to be Minnesota that day, but hey, I've least you've got that!
Have you ever read about the 1st time ND wore the green jerseys? It was on October 8th, 1921. Look it up you will like it.
Also, ND and those green jerseys haven't been very successful in the modern football era. They have a losing record while wearing them.
I have always been in the boat of I don't care if they want to wear purple and pink uniforms, it won't matter in the aspect that it won't make them play any better. Being all jacked up over your uniform probably gets you through the opening kick off. Too many examples of teams in alternate uniforms getting beat for me to buy it will have any affect at all on the product on the field.
We could have the worlds greatest designer create the ultimate uniforms and it still isn't getting the better HS athletes to leave the big money to come to Iowa. Hasn't happened in my life time and I am convinced it won't in the rest of my lifetime.
The problem with the "ends (landing the desired recruit) justifies the means (catering to their superificial stimulii)" approach is that the means generate other ends as well as the desired end. The other end here is rewarding superficiality.
We continue to weaken as a people, and it is done via a thousand, seemingly "trivial and easily accomplished" little concessions. Any push back against any one of the thousand concessions is dismissed as "the gripes of the status quo dinosaurs". But, eventually, one can see the sum of the thousand concessions, and it doesn't look so good.
Why didn't Duke Slater need an alternate uniform?
First, I would like to make clear that I believe I understand how hard these young men work all week. I often say,"I get to enjoy a nice fall Saturday while these guys bleed all week".
It is not, though, about what they "deserve". It is about what we should be teaching them for life. "Look at me, look at me!" is not the right lesson. Now, "look at me make the game saving tackle" or "look at me visit the children's hospital" or "Look at me make academic all-american" or even "look at me get drafted" are all good. Well that is certainly a relief. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, wants to be Minnesota. It won't be enough to be Minnesota that day, but hey, I've least you've got that!
I wanted to say it, but....There appeared to be a racial divide in the level of excitement.
GET OFF MY LAWN!!!
GET OFF MY LAWN!!!
GET OFF MY LAWN!!!
GET OFF MY LAWN!!!
1. Playing football for the University of Iowa or any FBS university is an accomplishment!
2. This isn't about superficiality or teaching these players any kind of life lessons.
3. You're the old fart that's been saying all along that Iowa doesn't need alternate uniforms, and you're pissed because they are actually getting them.
1. Playing for Iowa is a huge accomplishment. Putting on a uniform (standard or alternate) is not.
2. Okay, then tell me what this (using alternate uniforms) is about. Why is it being done?
3. This the first time I have ever commented on the alternate uniform topic, as I recall.
You may be surprised to know that I do not have a problem with doing the alternate uniform in and of itself. I just have a problem if it is being done to appeal to what I see as a superficial and vapid need to "look good". How 'bout being good?
No surprise that a douche poster would bring politics into the football board. Way to be "that guy"Ok. I'm going to say it. how many insane U of I liberals are freaking out right now about the song choice?
Maybe just lighting but the helmet didn't look matte to me. Actually almost have a bit of a sheen to it that makes me wonder if it has some gold or silver added to the black.sweet. Hope the helmet is matte black instead of just removing the center stripe and keeping the same helmet. Should be a great atmosphere being a night game with wrestling earlier in the day and a long tailgate

Stand for something or fall for anything.
So you would opt for the die.
Because they are self absorbed, over reactive, pot stirring, douche bags?but I really can't even see why anybody would be so against this.
