I keep having this reoccurring dream that I am a top five recruit. And although I love to hunt, I am seduced by Carl and the though of being "Happy" all the time. We're training hard and sometime around Halloween, one of the boosters invites Nick and myself to come hunt one of his farms in western Pa. At this point, I wake up in a cold sweat too afraid to go back to sleep. I tell myself it was only a dream. A nightmare, actually.
You see many have been missing a critical piece of the recruiting puzzle. Do you think someone like Bill Zadick (from my home state) would want to hunt in Pa, where the average buck harvested is a staggering 2 1/2 years old? Sure they got some big old fat bears, but fat and wrestlers don't mix well. It is also true that Illinois and Ohio have some cranker bucks, but the odds of the farmer with a premium chunk being a wrestling fan are going to be slim. Besides you can still buy a tag over the counter if Streebler or Imart had a big toad on trail camera and decided to invite you.
But Iowa, that is a different story. As a non resident, you have to draw a tag, two to three years wait just for archery. Trust me, I know. So if you want more opportunity at a slammer whitetail, Iowa is your only option. I suppose if you just wanted to shoot a doe, then Happy valley would be fine. The odds are great, that you will get an invite to hunt an awesome buck in Iowa!!!

Western Pa was where Dupont lived and you know what happened there.

Dupont lived outside of Philadelphia and Lee lives in suburban Pittsburgh, 300+ miles apart. Columbus and tOSU are about 100 miles closer to Lee than Philadelphia.

And Rutgers and Maryland are both closer to DuPont's farm than State College is.
The Duponts are exhibit A against inherited wealth lasting over generations. Throw in the Kennedy clan as well. The rare well-balanced productive member of society with this upbringing is outnumbered by the various dolts, recluses, sociopaths who either kill themselves playing football on a ski slope, kill others, or end up hopeless drug addicts.

I lived near Foxcatcher and my sister almost trained there for swimming - what a crazy mofo.

No matter the distance, I heard DuPont enjoyed a cheesesteak now and then. Just saying.

Apparently your thinkiness is a little off-putting to some of the high-brow locals.

For me, this could've had POTY potential had the OP integrated more "Flap speak" into it... Either way, he's absolutely right. Metcalf will have him in stand on one of his leases before his plane lands.

I knew as the new guy, I would receive some type of hazing. I have to admit, I was totally unprepared for this level of brutality. The phrase, Maybe go away, was so well thought out that I truly hesitate to reengage such a clever wordsmith. Actually I have been a regular reader here and decided to spend time on the Westminster Kennel Club forums in an attempt to thicken up my hide. The "toy breed section" folks are a really rough crowd and I have been posting there for the last 6 months knowing you guys might be at or near their level.
I guess I just live in a bubble here. I mean to me Iowa means wrestling and big deer. I know it's hogs and corn to some folks out there, but those are not my passions. I am thankful, however that some are passionate about hogs and corn, cause I love Fritos and bacon.
Seriously, was just trying to post a wrestling thread with a different angle. I have had more than a couple state champions under cougar trees in the past. Wrestlers out west like to hunt. I only assumed that would be the case in Iowa. I will try to tone it down a notch.

Yeah... it's well past time to take out the trash. November can't get here soon enough.

I guess this means I get to stay!
You're going to need thick skin to survive around here. Don't take any of this crap too personal. It's only a silly message board where anonymous posters get to insult others without any consequences.

Stick around for when the season actually starts.
