who can hit clutch shots that seniors of past couldn't? Grant it we haven't had a 30 sec left game situation yet but I'm mainly referring to just min by min clutch shots. Hand in face, stop the run, and ones.....etc. This is a very young team but they don't seem to mind the spot light (ON THE OFFENSIVE END). It's frustrating but can be very very fun to watch. I think this speaks very highly of the Hawks future.

Not a knock on past teams but I feel like the attitude had a lot to do with it.

Don't get too ahead of yourself. The way we played at the end could have easily given away the big lead at the end if they would have hit a couple more timely shots. We've got a long way to go - need to see FT shooting improve, fewer turnovers, and our guys need to take to the seasoning they're getting in situational basketball and half court O.

Loved the ending against ISU as much as anyone, but there needs to be a body of work before we declare this group as better than past teams. I do love how they're currently handling things, though. (one game)

I still believe we will struggle, horrendously at times, defensively. It will be a season-long process.

I'm not trying to be a wet blanket, even though I am one.

As Coach Bobby Knight of Indiana once said:

"The best thing about freshmen is that they will
soon be sophomores."

Freshmen who play with the frequency of our guys don't truly qualify as freshmen, in my mind. It's more of an eligibility thing. When you're getting experience in spades, you're already experienced on a fast track.

I picture the true freshman experience as the guy who comes off the bench in spot minutes and is given time to develop. We're depending on our "freshmen" for varsity contributions.

Agreed. Let the guys develop without proclaiming them great after 1 win or crappy after a game they look terrible (i.e. Virginia or upcoming Big 10 games). Bohannon and Pemsl have basketball savvy and/or understanding that allows them to play beyond their natural ability levels. But they will also have games where it is not pretty.

Say what you will but our free throw shooting is bad.

It's all related to who gets to the line. For Iowa, their big guys (Pemsl, Wagner, Uhl, Cook) are not good FT shooters. They might improve some during the year, but they won't all become 75% FT shooters. Iowa hit 70+% against ISU, which is a good number for Iowa. Baer hit 6-7 to help quite a bit.

Pemsl & Cook both have good shooting strokes so there could be some improvement in their % over the season. For Cook this assumes his broken finger does not impact his shot the rest of this year which it could. Wagner's shot needs a lot of work. Uhl's stroke is already bad and set so it is what it is.

IMHO making "clutch shots" starts with designing/getting in position for the shot. Over the years I have felt that our guys don't feel comfortable with the clock running down and then throw up a rushed/lower % shot. I think with these guys, Fran maybe spoon feeding things more to them than he has in the past which especially offensively makes the plan and expectations much clearer. In essence, I think Fran is coaching more than he used to.

No,last year was bad. The last 2 minutes of close games was a stress test to watch. This year, with Jok, JBo, Moss and Bear, it looks to be alittle less stressful :)

Yeah I agree. Jobo shot over 90% in high school while jok is really good as well. Just get it in their hands at the end of the games.
