Never been a church goer but my mother-in-laws funeral was yesterday afternoon. All black church. First time to go.

Best service I’ve ever seen. Amazing sermon, great singers, inviting congregation. The Hammond B3 player (with the Leslie speaker) was worth the entry. Soul food dinner afterwards with the best green beans I’ve ever had.

I could see myself going to that church.

Do you hold your priest/father or the pope in high regard? Do you feel the need to use a closeted gay man or a possible pedo as a middleman or vehicle to have a relationship with Christ? **** organized religion.

I focus on the divine aspect of the Church like the Sacraments; the Eucharist and Confession.

Then, hopefully, eternal bliss after my death.

Timothy 2:5.

It's important to not take each verse individually and out of context, IMO.

The priest gives the Eucharist which Christ says we need.

John 6:54-57

"Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me."

Christ gave His Apostles the ability to forgive sins. This is why I go to Confession.

John 20:19–23

On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

I love your passion for your faith. I truly do. Now tell us about the statements in the old testament. Samuel Jackson might have some input

As you know, I'm somewhat agnostic. But I have read the bible front to back. Took Rabbi Holsteins classes at Iowa. There is just so much contradiction in both old, new, and Talmud, I have a hard time. BUT, I firmly believe in testaments to make people better humans

Yeah. It's infinitely complex and there are things we as humans can't know in this life.

So, I focus on the Eucharist and Confession. Keep it simple. :)

I enjoy a good homily. They can skip the singing and chanting as far as I am concerned.

We go on Saturday if we can otherwise the earliest mass on Sunday. I will not go to a later Sunday mass. Feels like my day is ruined if I have to wait to go to church.

It’s interesting going to other churches for mass. I am amazed how many leave after communion at some of them.

Well, I don't have the time to go into it. Old testament is full of hate, new testament is full of love.
It would be good if you could expound on this.

I thought the same way as you 20 years ago and also took Holstein’s class, read Erhman, etc…. I look back on that now as arguably the biggest waste of my time (& money).

But, God kept working on my heart. Gave my life to Christ. Then I worked my way through the Old Testament again with only Christ in mind and it blew my mind. The entirety of the OT points towards Jesus. Yes, there are head scratchers in there but you cannot let human understanding get in the way of Godly teaching. I thought there was hate in the OT, instead I discovered the problem of the human condition and how God loves us so much He had a plan to rescue us all.

I'll try to expound later. Too busy watching football right now. :)

When have you ever had contact with an apostle?

I haven't personally...yet. :)

I believe the Apostles were the beginning of the clergy of Jesus's church. The Acts of the Apostles details the spread of the Church.

Matthew 16:19; 18:18

Jesus gave Peter and the apostles the power and authority to carry out His work. "Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven."

I did not attend today. It was so damn cold there last week, I am still thawing out…..It was “communion Sunday” too…….so I had a soda cracker and a shot of Talisker “Dark Storm” in remembrance of Jesus’ sacrifice for me and you.
