I went with my wife this am. Catholic mass. Was too long (1:25) in part due to a presentation by teens doing a mission trip this summer, but not terrible. Guest priest visiting from Western PA talked about a YouTube video by an attorney who researched astronomy tables and supposedly discovered that on the night of Jesus’s birth, Jupiter and Venus converged and formed a bright light. Too lazy to look up the video myself. Gave money to support the mission kids for their trip to TN and that was that.

That's pretty long.

I went to a Haitain Mass last year and it must have been 3 hours.

I left after 2. :)

I think the 35% number is Americans who attend monthly, not each Sunday.
It actually says within last 7 days. There is no doubt it's way down. Went to Chuck Swindol's church last Sunday and they had a combined service. My hair is grayish but there was a whole lot of real solid gray. The church population was overwhelmingly over 70 and very few young people. My church is the same, but being a university town has more younger people, but definitely over 60 weighted and the service is very modern.

You crack me up, dude. I can post whatever I want here. You are free to put me on ignore.

And Hell is 100% Scriptural.

Here's Jesus:

"And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell."

- Matthew 10:28

Did they actually use the Bible? They rarely use it anymore in most churches. Nice of you to support the youth however. That’s a nice cause.
I talk to a lot of people who feel they are not really having their spiritual
needs filled at church these days. Would explain why they are hemorrhaging members .

Here's what I read:

"According to a 2022 survey, 31 percent of Americans never attend church or synagogue, compared to 20 percent of Americans who attend every week."

My point is most Christian clergy could make alot more if they had regular jobs like Jehovah's Witnesses do.

You probably make more than most.

The doctrine of Hell is also black and white in Scripture.
I'm pretty conservative, but believing in hell is not a necessity for faith. A deep dive can give credence when looking really deep in a punishment that is not really forever. Not what I believe necessarily, but honest people can disagree about that.

They always do 4 parts from the Bible. OT, singing of a psalm, NT and gospel. It is Epiphany, so they did the story of King Herod and the Magi.

Jesus talked about Hell many times explicitly. That's where the teaching on Hell comes from.

@the24fan

who created the entity that started the universe?

why is the universe starting out of nothing a better question than a divine entity starting out of nothing?

Great questions!

Why don't you come back to Church?

We'd love to have you.

God doesn't force us.

Jesus told us about the Parable of the Wedding Feast. We're all invited to the banquet of eternal bliss.

It's up to us to choose it.

You don't want eternal bliss?
I don't feel lack of attendance at church prevents me from receiving it. Again if God judges me based on attendance rather than how I lived my life I don't want to be a part of that. Luckily for me I don't believe that's how he is. As long as I believe in him and treat others well and live a good life I'll be ok.

According to Catholicism, it does. The Sacraments are crucial to salvation.

I understand, though. I didn't go from age 18 to 33.

Jesus said unless we take the Eucharist, we have no life in us.

Many churches today are cesspools. Jesus came to destroy the establishment thinking.

For me it's like baptism. Necessary? Some think so, but not really. Making a meaningful profession? Likely is a sign. The thief on the cross....

glad you used that scripture as you’ll notice it says be in fear of Him who can DESTROY soul and body… not torture. Destroy means death not eternal torture..or are you reading that different than me? And Gehenna means the second death, or death without possibility of resurrection.

Jesus said Hell is eternal, brother.

Matthew 25:

"And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Mark 9:42-48

"Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, “where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched."

What if he is Methodist? Does he only go to Catholic hell?
Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, "Don't do it!" He said, "Nobody loves me." I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?"

He said, "Yes." I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?" He said, "A Christian." I said, "Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?" He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me, too! What franchise?" He said, "Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?" He said, "Northern Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"

He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region." I said, "Me, too!"

Northern Conservative†Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912." I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him over.

Well, here's a short article.

How old are you?

I'm 40. Again all that is bullshit to me. If I believe in him and I treat others well and live a good life what kind of God would he be if he damns me to hell because I didn't do something as dumb as eat a magical piece of bread often enough. If that's how it is I'll deal with hell I guess.

We go by what Jesus taught.

He's the key to salvation, my friend.

By understanding that the idea of eternal life is to help week people that can't accept that what we are is all we will ever be. That when a child dies, they really are just gone. By understanding that there really is no sin, Heaven or Hell, that was invented to control the masses.
And to bring down the proud who think they are not weak.

Everything depends on life after death, in my judgment. If there's no life after death, life is pointless.

If there's a bad life after death, that's even worse. If there's a good life after death, that changes the calculation.

What would you prefer after death:

A.) Eternal bliss

B.) Eternal oblivion

C.) Eternal torment

You have poor judgement. Life isn't pointless, it is what there is. It's all there is. When it is over, there is nothing.
