Are you religious?

Don't tell you? It's all over the news endlessly.

Here's something they REALLY don't tell you:

The Catholic Church is the largest non-governmental charity in the world.

The Catholic church’s new motto: yes we committed mass torture and genocide but hey, we’re generous too!

The vast majority of clergy were not involved in any abuse. Like 90%.

Still, that has nothing to do with Jesus.

Buddhism has plenty of abuse. And did you see the video of the Dalai Lama trying get a young boy to suck his tongue a few months ago?

Why would you leave Jesus for this??

Do you approve of this from your spiritual leader?

The Dalai Lama is on video trying to kiss a boy.

You said you left the Catholic Church because a bishop covered up sex abuse but you stay in Buddhism when the DALAI LAMA does it himself?

Please explain your reasoning.

No, I wasn't buying it even as a little kid.

Religious and spiritual are different. I believe in God. Religions are inventions of men. Often to make money.
This. Like many, I believe there’s a higher power, but it ain’t the one we learned about.

I figure it’s all symbolism, Father, Son, Holy Ghost, Mother Mary. All metaphors people used for things they didn’t understand. IDK, Mother Nature, the Earth, the sky, the seasons….. no idea.

I will throw up a quick conversation of gratitude quite often, followed by a few prayers. I was taught the Our Father and Hail Mary. One was the “Lord” character’s prayer, and the other was said to please him greatly. Good enough for me.

haha first I’ve seen that. I’m more of a student of the Theravada school of Buddhism. The Dalai Lama is not my spiritual leader but I do respect him. As far as I know, he has not sodomized, tortured, or otherwise abused children.

I can tell already that you have a poor understanding of Buddhism. Best leave it right there.

You are behaving as a hypocrite.

Do you condone abuse within Buddhism?

If you practiced consistent ethics, you would leave Buddhism, right?

There's abuse in the Theravada School of Buddhism, too.

Will you leave it or do you condone child abuse?

Again you are raising issues of supposed abuse within Tibetan Buddhism. I already told you that I am not a student of that sect. If Tibetan monks abused children they should be punished. You have a shallow understanding of Buddhism that a perfunctory google search cannot fix.

My point is that you're a hypocrite. Your sect has abuse in it.

Your mantra seems to be: "I only condone child abuse if Buddhists do it!"

Is that right?

One of your monks impregnated a 12 year old girl.

Will you stop supporting the Theravada school of Buddhism??

Priests rape boys. More than one.

Priests have a lower abuse rate than the general population.

Certainly lower than public school teachers:

The Church has used best practices to deal with this issue since 2002.

The incidents of clerical abuse in recent years (i.e., since 2002) are down to a trickle. Many of the newer abuse cases since 2002 have been perpetrated by visiting international priests here on vacation or sabbatical who have not gone through the extensive training and screening that American clerics now go through.

The Dallas Charter and subsequent Church reforms have resulted in a number of industry-standard and even groundbreaking policies and procedures to keep children safe in Church-related activities and keep abusing priests out of ministry.

I get that you’re a little defensive with the church’s history but you’re reaching here and again you have little understanding of Buddhism in general, it’s history and philosophy.

Please stop deflecting. I'm not reaching. You're behaving as a hypocrite would.

Child abuse within your school of Buddhism is acceptable to you, right?

If it's not, you'll leave it like you left the Catholic Church, right?

I took a Buddhist meditation class in 2016. Your post has nothing to do with the abuse in your school.

I've given links that show child abuse within YOUR school of Buddhism.

If you were consistent in your ethics, you'd leave Buddhism rather than enable it by staying.

Why don't you leave??

But it is odd that the Christian church exploded after he was crucified
What is your point?

Cults explode as well. Doesn't mean there is any sense to it.

I believe he was crucified. I don't believe he resurrected. I also don't believe in unicorns

Do you believe the Old Testament talked about Jesus getting crucified?

It just makes you think that something happened to spur on that explosion

Your wife sounds like she's got her act together. Maybe she knows what the truth is. :)

I already said that Buddhist philosophy fits me better than Christianity. I don’t approve of abuse anywhere.

I reluctantly stayed with the church for a long time as the abuses became more evident.

As I stated, the last straw was when my parish bishop, Robert Carlson, testified under oath that he was uncertain if it was illegal for a priest to sexually abuse a 14 year old boy.

The flagrant deceit and devious cover-up became too much. Carlson was not punished, he was rewarded!!

The abuse and torture of hundreds of thousands of indigenous children and recent discoveries of mass graves more or less sealed the deal for good. This is GENOCIDE - a crime against humanity and a fact which Pope Francis was finally forced to admit.

You're deflecting again. There's proven child abuse in YOUR Buddhist school and yet you stay and support it!

You really can't see your hypocrisy here??

If you weren't a hypocrite, you would leave Buddhism today.

This isn't complicated.

Mixed marriages are tough.

My Dad is a totally unchurched protestant. He's 83 years old and nearing eternity.

Protestant is the only way i would ever get back into religion. I can't stand the narrow mildness of the Catholic Church. Priests should be able to marry. Protestants should be able to take communion, gays should not be abolished by the church.

A welcoming religion is what people need.

Dude, you’re a little thick. I have repeatedly stated in this thread that Buddhism is a better fit for me than Christianity. Buddhism appeals to me and has since college decades ago.

I was baptized and raised in the Catholic Church. I was indoctrinated, cutting ties wasn’t quick or easy. The massive scandals and heinous coverups were too much….. church leaders protecting child molesters - even to the point of purposefully lying about it - was a breaking point.

Do you believe arch bishop Carlson when he swore that he did not know it was illegal to sodomize a young boy?

Be consistent and stop deflecting.

I've shown you how there is abuse and coverup in YOUR school of Buddhism and all you do is deflect back to the church and say Buddhism "suits" you better regardless of the abuse!

There is abuse in your school of Buddhism and you remain SILENT about it.

Absurd!

If you were REALLY against abuse, you would leave Buddhism today.

If you don't, you're a hypocrite!

Full stop.
