Are you religious?

I
Be consistent and stop deflecting.

I've shown you how there is abuse and coverup in YOUR school of Buddhism and all you do is deflect back to the church and say Buddhism "suits" you better regardless of the abuse!

There is abuse in your school of Buddhism and you remain SILENT about it.

Absurd!

If you were REALLY against abuse, you would leave Buddhism today.

If you don't, you're a hypocrite!

Full stop.
Answer the question: Do you believe arch bishop Carlson when he swore under oath that he did not know that it was illegal for a priest to sodomize a 14 year old boy?

Protestant is the only way i would ever get back into religion. I can't stand the narrow mildness of the Catholic Church. Priests should be able to marry. Protestants should be able to take communion, gays should not be abolished by the church.

A welcoming religion is what people need.

Priests marrying would be a debacle. 40% of marriages end in divorce. All that trouble would be brought into the Church.

Gays are not "abolished" by the church. Lol

You may like Episcopalian, Methodist or United Church of Christ. They are very liberal.

I don't know what he was thinking.

You are a master at deflecting and have not addressed ANY of my points about abuse in YOUR school of Buddhism.

You're a total hypocrite!

Sure, sure. Talk about deflection! He was covering for the church and the abusers.

You’re working hard to minimize massive scandals and crimes against humanity. Keep up the good work!

“Between 1881 and 1996 more than 150,000 indigenous children were separated from their families and brought to residential schools. Many children were starved, beaten and sexually abused in a system that Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission called "cultural genocide".

"Yes, genocide is a technical word but I did not use it because I did not think of it, but I described .... yes, it is a genocide, yes, yes, clearly. You can say that I said it was a genocide," —Pope Francis

I'm in the Church so I can PREVENT scandals myself, as I've explained already. I am part of the solution, unlike you.

In summary, you claim you left the Catholic Church because of the sex abuse scandals and are now Buddhist, which also has sex abuse scandals, which YOU ignore.

You are a complete hypocrite! Abuse doesn't bother you.

If you were sincere, you'd leave Buddhism today.

Like most practicing Catholics you’re in a really tough position. It’s OK man, we’ve all been there.

It isn’t easy brother, I know. How does one defend or explain scandals on such a massive scale? Ignore it, hope it goes away, minimize it, pretend it isn’t that bad, rationalize it somehow.

Keep working on it my friend and good luck in all your future endeavors!

Hey, Bubby, take the love and turn the cheek if you believe. I’ll talk with you in the light and disagree and agree.

Whatever. I've shown how you're a COMPLETE hypocrite. You are without ethics.

I have completely dismantled you in this thread.

You once again ignore all the scandals in Buddhism and deflect, deflect, deflect to the Catholic Church, which I am trying to improve as a member. Not once have you addressed these scandals in Buddhism. They simply don't matter to you.

Do you hope to get reincarnated as a frog or something when you die in a couple years??

You're an old man now. Time flies by.

Enjoy the scandals in Buddhism which you ignore because Buddhism "suits" you better.

BTW, I've taken a Buddhist meditation class. We studied the "dharma."

It's maybe the dumbest "religion" in our world today. There's no God and we get reincarnated when we die. Sure.

There's no intellectual depth to it.

Makes no sense.

No wonder it "suits" you in spite of the massive Buddhist sex abuse scandals , which you ignore.

I think it's good so far!

Everyone is free to have their own beliefs. Debating/arguing doesn't work.

We do live in an atheist country now so I understand most Americans are unchurched.

If believing incorrectly means an eternity in hell, are we really free to have our own beliefs?

That’s like saying we are all free to rape babies.

I don't think believing incorrectly means someone is automatically damned.

People only go to Hell because they choose it.

Thoughts I always come back to (both for and against you could say?)

1) Current man-made religion is dumb. How many denominations are there now? That was not Jesus's intent. A person that self reflects and does their own thing on their own time can be or is more "religious" than the scumbag Catholic (for example) that sits in church every Sunday.

2) Also with the man man made religion, you "have to" accept Jesus and be baptized and all that good stuff, etc etc. What about the native americans in the 1300's or the islanders in the South Pacific that dont even know that a white man even exists in this world BUT lets say they are good people, treat others well, etc etc.....they going to hell for not accepting Christ?

3) In regards to Jesus, I will say if the whole thing is "fake" then it is literally the best lie ever told and carried out in all the time that written history has existed (thousands and thousands of years) and for it to spread like it did in a time with no internet, phones and other forms of instant communication is impressive. I mean there had to be plenty of other people running around over the last 2,000 years that said "hey I am THE GUY" but they flamed out, so something must have been significant enough with Jesus that the whoel thing has endured like it has. (who knows maybe in 2,000 years from now, Scientology is still kicking and has taken the world by storm.....NOT)

4) Maybe this is a science question more so, but if the world/universe was truly from a big bang and every single living thing on this planet started as essentially a single cell amoeba, how is it that we as human beings are literally the only one with advanced conscious thought? (or however you want to say that) I mean I know dogs, chimps, etc. all have traits liek we do, but at the end of the day, we humans are the only ones that are like we are....seems odd that if everything was truly just evolution that there was only just us to make it out on top.

1.) Good points. I also agree that Jesus only wanted ONE church but humans splintered it 1,500+ years later. Flawed human nature is a real thing. I'm not sure how someone can be "religious" if they reject all religions though. And most religions can have some good things in them.

2.) There's a theological concept called "invincible ignorance" which applies here. If a Native American or anyone else doesn't know about Christ/Church, they get judged by what they know, could know and what they did and how they acted. That's only fair.

3.) Good points. We know the crucifixion of Jesus is a historical fact. Christianity exploded in Jeruslam where it happened so SOMETHING happened that was out of this world.

4.) Good questions. Humans are obviously special.

Honest question. Do you believe because you feel like you need to?

Again, not discouraging your faith. I just find it humerous that people find faith right before they are going to die.

I'm happy and resolute with the fact that worms will eat my ashes. I have no problem with that. It kind of gives me more of a positive attitude on making the most of life (although I have failed)
Worms will eat our ashes no matter what.
Your spirit is what lives on eternally either in Heaven or Hell given your choice.
The spirit has a new body of no ills in Heaven based on scripture.
Don't know about Hell.

2.) That's all good and well, but that's just something Catholics came up. I mean I agree with the premise of it and I think that's the case to rationalize those that don't know, but ultimately that just means that at the end of the day it is essentially that you are supposed to be a good person and that's pretty much it, all the force fed man made religion crap is just that...."now go say your 50 hail marys!"

Which is where I am at....I believe in Jesus and his promotion of how to treat others essentially but all the "church" stuff is dumb. Mulit-Million dollar churches, you have to "become" catholic/other denominations, etc is stupid.

My no pic wife is Catholic, i was raised methodist, yet I can't take communion at a Catholic service because i am not "Catholic".......that is really dumb.

Christians have necessarily invented non-biblical doctrines to close and explain away obvious fundamental loopholes.

“invincible ignorance” was invented and necessary to rationally explain how hundreds of millions of humans who could not have even heard of Jesus Christ could still make it to Heaven - this even though the Bible clearly provides that the belief in Jesus is the only way (“…I am the Truth no one gets to Heaven except through me”).

And what about the baby that dies days after birth. Well for that inconvenient situation, the church invented purgatory - not Hell (cuz how could a toddler profess Jesus as savior?) and not Heaven either. Souls in limbo, possibly forever.

Yes, Jesus is the only way.

It's possible for someone that's invincibly ignorant to encounter Him in Purgatory. The Bible says "All who call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" FIVE times. It doesn't specify where or when.

Invincible ignorance makes perfect sense Biblically.

What do you think happens to babies that die Buddhism "invents" doctrine, too.

Do they get reincarnated?

How did Buddhism come up with the idea of reincarnation?

Those are just Muslim extremists.

Most religions don't encourage that.
There's been so many violent things done in the name of religion and though Muslim extremist is one... there are many, many more... here are a few: Crusades, Roman Persecutions, Human Sacrifice, Inquisitions, Native American Genocide, Mountain Meadows Massacre, Holocaust, KKK, mistreatment of homosexuals, abortion clinic bombings, cults (Koresh, Heaven's Gate, Jones, etc), tar & feathering of Mormans, French Wars, etc, etc.

Sure, there's also been so much good done in the name of religion, too but religion only gets judged by it's abuses in modern times.

(Your list isn't accurate, BTW. The Holocaust was done by atheist Adolf Hitler in the name of racial superiority.)

The first orphanages were invented by Christians. So were universities.

Would you rather live in an atheist society like the Soviet Union or Communist China??

How about ancient Rome?

Christianity has been intricately intertwined with the history and formation of Western society. Throughout its long history, the Church has been a major source of social services like schooling and medical care; an inspiration for art, culture and philosophy; and an influential player in politics and religion.

I’m addition you also have the heralded “death bed” confession in order to accommodate biblical doctrine. A situation so twisted that a guy like mass murderer John Wayne Gacey or even Hitler could make it to Heaven if he sincerely confesses his sins and accepts Jesus Christ as savior :… while innocent babies who died shortly after birth or remote tribesman in Madagascar who have never been visited by outsiders are destined to purgatory or even eternal damnation.

If Hitler or Gacy sincerely repented I believe they would go to purgatory at best until the end of time. And purgatory is not pleasant.

I would suggest that citing the expansion of Christianity as evidence of the reality of the resurrection is a flawed argument. The rapid expansion actually took 100s of years to take hold. You can see a very similar phenomenon when you look at the expansion of Islam.

I would argue that these religions expanded rapidly because they shared several critical factors. One both religions are open, in the sense that they are not tied to location or ethnicity. They emerged in polytheistic areas in which people were perfectly willing to accept a new god in their pantheon. Most importantly they emerged in empires with wide expansive cultural and economic reach. Christianity and Islam were able to travel along the trade routes and conquests of the empires they emerged in.

Islam expanded because of conquest. Mohammad was a warlord that led armies into battle and kept slaves.

Without Jesus's resurrection, it's hard to explain how Christianity began in Jerusalem which is the same place where the crucifixion occurred.

Also, it's hard to explain why the apostles would invent the tale only to get murdered for it.

You deflect and refuse to answer basic questions about your "philosophy" Buddhism.

Buddhism does exactly what you accuse Christianity of doing; covers up abuse and invents central tenants.

If you were sincere, you'd leave Buddhism.
