Arkansas will pay you $10,000 to move there (and they'll throw in a bicycle, too)....

I have kayaked and backpacked in parts of Arkansas...beautiful country but I ain’t tryin to live there.

I'm actually surprised some person or entity hasn't tried something like that. Maybe it's been looked into and the ROI just isn't there. States with growing urban areas have a chance, but as someone else noted the spiral effect can offset that. It will always be easier to move to a more desirable place than trying to change/improve the current area.

Related to this, I heard that Andrew Yang and his wife were looking into moving to Georgia in time to be able to vote in the upcoming January Senate run offs...

List off the other places that are offering money to people in order for them to move there. Take Polk County (IA), and Washington County (AR), and step back 30 years. Both have seen incredible growth, with many of the same regional demographic shifts. Much of that growth is spurred by the surrounding rural areas emptying out. One is offering money to move in, and one is not.
Is it s decent place to live? Yes. Is it better than a lot of places that offer more personal opportunity with less fundamentalism? No. Is Fayetteville and the Bentonville/Springdale/Rogers area more welcoming than most? They have to be. But, overall the area, and state, are not welcoming to what young, talented people are seeking. If you grew up in Clarksville and have moderate prospects, sure, you are moving up the hill. If you have a professional degree the chances are you are moving to OKC or the Dallas metro area. You prove my point by saying that you know many people who would move back for the right opportunity. The area is a regional hub fueled by the growth of a few companies and demographic shifts. They have better scenery than Polk County, I will give them that. In Polk County you have less Sharia Law, and far fewer Confederate flags.

Yeah, you’re right. The 13th fastest growing metro in the US is really struggling to bring people in. NWA just doesn’t compare socially to the progressive utopia known as Des Moines, Iowa.

So, why are they paying people to move there? It is nice that drunken old Alice and a few of her family members have built a great museum, but it's growth built on demographic shifts, and a handful of companies.
How much time did you spend outside of the Fayetteville area? Ever get more than 15 miles outside of that bubble and talk to folks? I have. I spent four years covering NWA, and I know every little town there is in that part of the state. There is no mystical reason why the region is growing. The land is cheap for retirees and families, and rural Arkansas is emptying out.

Yet again, you show your ignorance. Over 40% of NWA's recent population growth has been from foreign born immigrants.

Global Talent: The Economic Engine of Northwest Arkansas
Sorry, I forgot about you for awhile. I see that you refuse to answer about why Arkansas is paying for people to move in, versus other areas. And, you don't seem inclined to answer as to just how much experience you have outside of the Fayetteville bubble.
It is nice that you linked that piece from the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, but, it doesn't show what you think it does. I will grant that there is some influx of people who that can be attributed to Wal-Mart, and may be bringing in high level skills and receive good wages, but the bulk of those immigrants are for the poultry plants. You can tell that by seeing the high level of Marshallese immigrants.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you “woke America”. Marshallese immigrants trying to better their lives are suddenly 2nd class citizens when @lucas80 is trying to argue on the internet.

Hey @lucas80 , how come the best school district in the progressive utopia known as Polk County, IA is rated nationally behind EIGHT schools districts in the NWA area?

The answer to why NWA is offering a stipend to future residents during a pandemic where people are leaving heavily populated areas isn’t difficult to figure out, dipshit. If you need it broken down into dipshit terms, I’ll let my dog walk across my keyboard.

So, still not answering why Arkansas is offering money to move there, huh? You can say it’s pandemic related, but you have no proof. Twisting something into racial hyperbole is also a sign of a weak hand. You are the one who thought you were posting some groundbreaking study on diversity. The poultry plants are the pulling in a lot of cheap labor. Instead of understanding and acknowledging that you made a silly statement that I view immigrants as second class citizens. They are treated that way by Tyson and their wholly owned subsidiaries and contractors, but that is a tangent.
I’ll be charitable and just assume you never set foot outside of Fedville in your 18 months there.
I’m glad they have some good school districts. Go 15 miles east or west of I-49 and the schools drastically drop off in quality. You are twisting things around to purely compare Polk County to individual districts in NWA. Try comparing Springdale or Bentonville to Ankeny and Waukee.
