Because if you give 20 more scholarships to football, you then have to find where to give 20 more scholarships for women's sports or cut 20 other men's scholarships in other sports. If you give 20 more scholarships to women, then that's 40 more scholarships you have to fund. That's another $1.2M in scholarship expense on top of the $22M the university is going to have to find in order to fund player compensation plus paying back the COVID loan they got from the university back in 2020. Iowa is pretty much already on record saying they are staying put at 85 scholarships for football.I don't understand that. The only reason for restricting the number of schollies to 85 was the NCAA limitation. Now the only limitation is the 105 roster limit. Why not give everyone on the roster a scholarship?
title 9 sucks in this case, the football program should be exempt from the title 9 stuff.Because if you give 20 more scholarships to football, you then have to find where to give 20 more scholarships for women's sports or cut 20 other men's scholarships in other sports. doesn't the state have a 5.5 billion dollar surplus? it'd be great if they took that money and split it 3 ways, it could fund the NIL through interest.Doctors and Lawyers and such

These numbers likely aren't correct. Oregon is missing a lot of money here.Top 25 is higher than I expected us to be.
I have a hard time believing that Indiana's football collective has $4M more than ours. Until there's a public database with public contracts, I'm just going to assume all this is BS driven by agents that are trying artificially inflate the prices.no idea where these estimates are actually coming from, but this is an idea.
Its possible this would affect other sports because of the title 9 situation, since they have to balance out. Probably why this would be a school by school decision with the AD, because every school doesn't have the same sports offerings for men and women.I knew all this. Still don't understand a school like Iowa not giving out 105 scholarships in football.
I could see schools having 65-70 full scholarships and then split the other 15 -20 with the rest of the squad. No, that is just how many you are allowed to give.
The SEC has already announced they will continue to give 85 scholarships, so they will still have 20 non-scholarship players.
I suspect the B1G will do something similar? I don’t know if that has been announced.
This. And every school has that balanced differently now. The northern schools have mens and womens hockey. Many conference schools may not offer womens wrestling, etc...I think it also has to do with Title 9 issues. They have to offer as many scholarships to women as they do for men. So if they hand out 105 scholarships for football, that's 20 more scholarships that have to be funded for women basketball players, field hockey players, gymnasts, etc.
My guess is one reason will be, that means you need to come up with 20 more scholarships for female athletes?I don't understand that. The only reason for restricting the number of schollies to 85 was the NCAA limitation. Now the only limitation is the 105 roster limit. Why not give everyone on the roster a scholarship?
I highly doubt that. With the expanded conference there is a wide difference in which non traditional sports are offered for which genders. Look at the different offerings from the west coast teams, vs mid west, and northern teams. Some have hockey, or wrestling, and other olympic sports not offered conference wide, and other differences. I don't see how a one size fits all will work.it will be a decision made by the conference
This isn't just football collective, basketball would be a major portion of that for Indiana, and again I'm not saying these are the actual numbers, just stating this is the info that's available.I have a hard time believing that Indiana's football collective has $4M more than ours. Until there's a public database with public contracts, I'm just going to assume all this is BS driven by agents that are trying artificially inflate the prices.
The 85 scholarship limit on football has nothing to do with what else you have put out there. The SEC has already done this, and I would bet the BIG will follow.I highly doubt that. I really hope your not being serious. You'd like to see this money going to high school kids and transfers to play a sport, when they will now be getting some piece of this rev sharing, AND a free college education, and not put toward, lowering taxes across the board, future infrastucture needs to benefit the public at large? Where have we come to......doesn't the state have a 5.5 billion dollar surplus? it'd be great if they took that money and split it 3 ways, it could fund the NIL through interest.
I don't know how many times on this board this comment has to be made, the italics indicate sarcasm. why the **** else would it be italicized.I really hope your not being serious. ??? I believe they still have to balance the number of scholarships for men and women, so how does that have nothing to do with if they give 85 or 105?The 85 scholarship limit on football has nothing to do with what else you have put out there. The SEC has already done this, and I would bet the BIG will follow.
Why make such a stupid statement at all. Just to get a rise? Great, you got one......I don't know how many times on this board this comment has to be made, the italics indicate sarcasm. why the **** else would it be italicized.
I literally said the decision for 85 scholarships will likely come from the BIG, just as it did for the SEC. Iowa isn't adding scholarships to any sport that I am aware of, maybe wrestling, but we have a women's team that will even that out.??? I believe they still have to balance the number of scholarships for men and women, so how does that have nothing to do with if they give 85 or 105?
the reply was based on NFL players kicking in a few million of their salary, it was a stupid retort, I will now apologize and bow down to the king of the board, continue on with your 85 scholarship non-sense.Why make such a stupid statement at all. Just to get a rise? Great, you got one......
It’s sad that a college football team might be the most important thing in some of these posters’ lives. They’d prioritize public spending on this type of entertainment over infrastructure, education, and health.I really hope you’re not being serious. And there are other teams that don't have the same offerings all throughout the conference. There may be some west coast teams that already have more womens rides in some non traditional sports. I don't know that. Do you?I literally said the decision for 85 scholarships will likely come from the BIG, just as it did for the SEC. I'd say the saddest part of this board, is a lack of reading comprehension, or the ability to follow a thread. It’s sad that a college football team might be the most important thing in some of these posters’ lives. honestly, WTF are you going on about? When the BIG decides that it is cool if the football teams go to 105 scholarships, report back with details. And there are other teams that don't have the same offerings all throughout the conference. I'm afraid I don't have Frans legendary "King" status, but thanks ayway.....the reply was based on NFL players kicking in a few million of their salary, it was a stupid retort, I will now apologize and bow down to the king of the board, continue on with your 85 scholarship non-sense.

I didn’t read the entire thread but I’m not sure how your quote can be out of context. It was an insane suggestion. However, your name doesn’t come to me as one of the nuts on this site so maybe you are right.I'd say the saddest part of this board, is a lack of reading comprehension, or the ability to follow a thread.
Jees.. maybe everyone didn't comprehend your "italicized" rule. Thanks for setting the rest of us dumb asses straight......I'd say the saddest part of this board, is a lack of reading comprehension, or the ability to follow a thread.
So, I will state it for the 100th time, go ahead and look at the comment, ever wonder why that was placed in italics? Probably because it is meant to be sarcastic.I didn’t read the entire thread but I’m not sure how your quote can be out of context. It was an insane suggestion. Geesh, not everyone needed a paragraph of diatribe about non-sensical bullshit associated with a dumbass comment, but thanks for setting us all straight.Jees.. maybe everyone didn't comprehend your "italicized" rule. Thanks for setting the rest of us dumb asses straight......
boys...back on subject.Geesh, not everyone needed a paragraph of diatribe about non-sensical bullshit associated with a dumbass comment, but thanks for setting us all straight.
FalseUnder the new 105 rule, every student athlete on the roster gets a schollie
Maybe I should take one for the team and be Warren Buffet's sugar bottom and try to funnel some of those billions into Swarm.Doctors and Lawyers and such
