*****Auburn QB Hank Brown COMMITS to IOWA while visiting Dec 12 & 13 (3 Years Eligibility)*****

Fire Barnett, hire an O-line coach who knows what he’s doing, and QB play will improve.
I will go ahead and disagree with you on OL, I thought they played good ball this fall...wait until the passing game catches up and matches the run game, hell, KJ would have had 30 TD's this year with a D level passing game. OL was overwhelmed in a few games, yes, but it's a numbers game and them being on All B10 teams prove it.

They went from the worst O lines I have seen at Iowa for 2 years to a very average line with a great rb this year. Way too many missed blocks and assignments still this year. They will never be great again while Barnett is the O line coach.

Iowa has had a few great RBs since 1960. None of them led the B1G in rushing until this year.

Maybe it’s because Iowa has a great OL coach?🤷‍♂️

Iowa didn’t in those years, but they did this year. Giving more credence to how well the line played this year.
How shitty was the passing game those years??? We couldn’t pass block, and often had running backs hit 3 yards deep

here is my question--for years we have not been able to move the sticks on third or 4th down and say 1-2-3 yrd to go. this year we witnessed 2 ganes where we had 1st and goal form the 2 and 3 and settled for FG.

This is just not this yr--but for a few yrs now since the Stanley sneak was popular--how come s Joe Moore award winning O lIne cannot get this done>

Honest question too==I am baffled we have an o line coach and KF and struggle so much with short yardage runs

Sounds like you need to follow a better team. Our backs were not often hit 3 yards deep, it would be hard to lead the big in rushing if that were true.

Did you watch the games? I watched every play. They were hit being the line often, Kaleb and crew broke some big chunk plays, our Online was average run blocking, sub par pass blocking

Over the last 64 years? Probably pretty shitty a few times.

Whether it was or wasn’t, having a shitty passing attack does not help you have success in the running game.

Iowa had a back hit 3 yards deep in the backfield the fewest times I can recall this year.

I think you have convinced yourself Barnett is terrible, and are seeing what you want to see.

Maybe, but we were hit in the backfield against ISU, MSU, OSU, Minnesota early in the year. The UCLA and Nebraska games were brutal trying to run, even with Sully in against UCLA

We also got away from all the presnap motion, and never really aimed to evolve it as the season went along.

Some of that could be attributed to the QB injuries and/or limitations, even though that's a terrible f***ing excuse.

Will you people start to figure out that 5 Olineman and even with 1 TEnd cannot block consistantly against 8 men in the box and you cant get rid of 8 men in the box until you burn the opponent with your passing game. There is going to be penetration in this situation.

It is like the variables in an equation and they all have to balance out correctly. I can only hope that we can get that consistent passing game of about 63% or so completions, maybe higher, and 200+ yards a game or more. Then the opponents safeties will be back and they will have a lbkr out wide covering a slot receiver or TEnd. Then it might be 6 on 6 blocking in the box making it easier to run and pass.

I understand that and said they were average at run blocking, terrible at pass pro. Perhaps the receivers not getting separation and a mentally broken qb with my grandmas arm strength made the o line look worse.

Its all these things.
Below average OL play + undersize WR's unable to get open and catch a ball + poor QB talent + predictable, stubborn play calling = worst offense in CFB for two years in a row.
Lester is in year one. Modest improvement has been made. 2 more years will tell.

To be fair you said none of the great Iowa running backs led the big ten in rushing since 1960, not the team as a whole.

Offense doesn't mean a darn thing to me. It's all about the W's.

But if you guys have to talk about offense every single day for years on end, can there at least be some accuracy involved?

Iowa DOUBLED its scoring output this season. In no world is that only "modest improvement". Also, don't forget they did that while playing 3 QB's.

Many of you claimed you were only seeking/expecting marginal improvement from the O this season. Those same people are still complaining on here on the daily, after what has to at least be called "significant" improvement.

This was all very predictable. Fans were bent out of shape before the offense was ever broken.
Iowa had a serviceable offense, Iowa won, and fans complained.
Then, Iowa had a broken offense, Iowa won, and fans complained.
Now, Iowa again has a serviceable offense, Iowa is winning, and fans are complaining

Iowa's OL was a semifinalist for the Joe Moore award plus we had several all-Big linemen. Hell, what do they know? The experts on this board think they know what a good OL coach is, but they don't. I trust Kirk's judgement.

Barnett has proven to be a good OL recruiter also.
Hawks second in Big Ten in rushing, and get this that is when every team we played KNEW we had shitty QB play so they were stacking against the run! That was a badass Iowa oline out there!

Our pass blocking was fine. 0 deep passing threat , a terrible QB for most the season, and frequent predictable passing situations contributed to our passing issues. The line wasn’t perfect, but they are far down the list of issues with our passing game.
