*****Auburn QB Hank Brown COMMITS to IOWA while visiting Dec 12 & 13 (3 Years Eligibility)*****

...and I believe I read he had 3 picks against Arkansas in something like 15 pass attempts.

He had a very bad game against Arkansas.

He also had a game that would have been the best performance by an Iowa QB in like six years, regardless of opponent, so…

Hank started vs New Mexico on Sep 14. He was 17/25 (68%) for 235 yards and 4 TD passes.

His highlights from that game:

Also, the Arkansas Game

He got pulled after the 1st half because he threw 3 interceptions against Arkansas. That was the game that Hugh Freeze threw his players under the bus.

Former three-star Hank Brown threw three interceptions in the first half, twice when linebackers simply dropped into coverage and Brown apparently just didn’t see them.

Payton Thorne replaced Brown in the second half (after getting benched for throwing four picks in a 21-14 loss to Cal at Jordan-Hare Stadium a couple of weeks ago) and he threw a pick as well although it really wasn’t his fault. The ball caromed off five-star receiver Cam Coleman’s hands and went right to an Arkansas defender.

As was Jon Beutjer

Beutjer the future! Sam Aiello did everyone a solid on that one.
When I was living at the Quad my first year of school at Iowa, the day after he announced he was transferring to Illinois, some guy on my floor made a poster of Beutjer in an Illini jersey getting pile drived by Matt Roth with the caption, "The Future Beutjer", and pasted it on his door. An early meme example. /CSB

I knew all this. Still don't understand a school like Iowa not giving out 105 scholarships in football.
Increasing football scholarships would throw off the Title IX balance. I’m pretty sure if a school/conference did that they would have to add 20 scholarships for women too.

Or they could drop more scholarships in men's non-revenue to offset.
Correct, and this is the more likely scenario IMO. Also for the people in the thread talking about partial schollys, football and basketball are not allowed to give partial rides.

I couldn’t disagree more. Title IX is about equal opportunity, not money. If you exempt football it’s just a matter of time until men’s basketball is exempted and pretty soon Title IX is meaningless.
you can have the teams, they don't have to be scholarship supported though. Football players risk way more serious injury and bring in, well it's not even close in terms of dollars. Leave the traditional olympic sports under title IX, but to count football to me...is a joke. Title IX has done some good things, but it's killed some good things too.

They are now according to this.

Maybe an FCS QB who wants to move up would be a better option. The guy from Michigan didn't work out so well. That, of course, doesn't mean the next guy from a big-name FBS program wouldn't, but I do think it means the search should look for the right individual rather than where he's coming from.

Maybe I’m alone, but I think B. Sullivan as our starter next year is a good option. Any QB ready to beat Sully in an open competition is going to be very expensive. I’d rather that money go towards getting a WR, LT, or bolstering the defense.

So someone like Hank Brown makes sense to me. Brown can add depth next year and have a legitimate chance to start once Sullivan graduates.
You are not alone. I absolutely believe a healthy Brendan Sullivan, working from now until mighty Albany shows up in Iowa City, could be an outstanding Iowa QB. As soon as Sully took over, KJ and the entire offense took on a whole new, more effective look. Lester, as the HC at Western Michigan, recruited Sullivan. There's a history there, and I think Sully could thrive under Lester's guidance. But Iowa does need additional bodies and talent, because we know injuries happen.

Stratton could be a very good QB as well. He needs the reps. He already has the arm, and although not a runner like Sully, Stratton is no statue. He can scramble and pick up some key yards.

So with Sully and Stratton, Iowa's in good shape. Better, I think, than most people realize. But absolutely bring in another good QB or two. In baseball, you can't have too much pitching. In football, you can't have too many quality QBs.

On3 seems to think this is a sure thing at this point. Not sure what to make of it.

The athletic department owes over 200 million to the university, record profits last year netted them a surplus of 11.4 million. Add to the point where revenue sharing becomes a thing, this is far from a nothing burger.
Can you explain this? My understanding is that the university is reimbursed for scholarships. Is that correct? What else do they pay the university for?
