B1G Baseball Conference Tournament Thread

Yes, and then potentially two games on Saturday.

Iowa's pitching staff isn't deep enough to handle back-to-back doubleheaders.

Frankly, for Iowa to have a realistic chance of making and/or winning on Sunday, I think that they need to run the table. Baumann would start against Nebraska tonight (or Friday). Then Iowa can pitch Judkins on Saturday. Even in that situation, Iowa has to hope that its Sunday opponent has burned through a lot of pitching to scratch its way to a Sunday game. And, quite frankly, it wouldn't hurt if the opponent was all but guaranteed an NCAA bid so the team wouldn't be tempted to squeeze a few innings from each of the pitchers at the top of the rotation.

Im guessing they would have the same results as Minneapolis. When the tournament was held at Target Field in Minneapolis in 2015, attendance was awful. Total attendance for the tournament was 7,384, with 658 in the stands for the final game.

Chicago don’t give a shit about college baseball. Nobody is traveling to see college baseball in the Big Ten.
At least Chicago or Indy would be closer to the center of B1G country.

Here is a view of the stands during the Iowa game:

Ok. Keep ignoring the facts that have been laid out in front of you. Ignore the attendance records that have been set in Omaha. Ignore that it’s the home of the College World Series.

Keep naming cities that don’t care about college baseball.

This isn’t football or basketball. This is baseball. Attendance generally sucks across the board for the Big Ten. The only team that is inside the Top 25 for attendance is..... Nebraska. Creighton also usually makes the list before any other Big Ten team. But I’m sure these other teams would start traveling to Chicago and Indy even though they don’t go to their own home games.

Here’s some 2017 attendance numbers
fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/baseball_RB/2018/attend.pdf

Nebraska 6th
Creighton 25th
Indiana 36th

Nobody else listed.

Minneapolis proved that it doesn’t matter if you put it in a big city. The locals don’t care.

We can all see with our own eyes that the stands are empty in Omaha so don't try and say that Omaha is the solution.

Indy is a great city for hosting tournaments; it probably should be there. Will attendance be as good as Omaha? Yes, because, again, the stands are EMPTY in Omaha. Attendance in Indy sure as heck wouldn't be worse than what we are seeing in Omaha.

Who’s gonna go? The locals? No. Other teams gonna travel? No. It’s baseball you dolt. It’s the Bog Ten.

Again, generally the Big Ten does not care for college baseball and that includes Indy. Are they good at hosting basketballs and football events? Hell yes. Those events should be there all the time. They won’t show up for baseball.

Omaha is the solution. It’s THE city for hosting college baseball tournaments.

You aren’t gonna get people to attend the early games that are during the day and in the middle of the week no matter where you put it. The numbers don’t lie. You think the Big Ten is in the business of missing out on money? They know where it will make the most money.

Edit: weather also plays a huge factor in these tournaments. Rain in the forecast drops numbers no matter what level of baseball we are talking about.

Well it's in Omaha for the next several years....better get your complaining out of your system

IU fans would be there.

Iowa and Debbie fans will travel no matter where its located.

The stands are empty in Omaha. Video does not lie. Indy can't do any worse.

A Nebraska v. Iowa matchup in good weather at a decent time on a weekend will draw 10,0000+. Iowa vs. OSU in title game 3 years ago drew almost that amount...

That's because they have to make sure the MD v OSU game gets finished first. Any weather might push the end of that game to tomorrow morning
Yeah my guess is that if they don’t finish this game they will start that game back up at 9 then Iowa after

So youd rather have one school represted well like Indiana? Attendance has been better in Omaha, its practice for the College World Series and its right next to Iowa.

Just stop.

You are literally too stupid to comprehend what is being said.

“Iowa will travel no matter where it’s located.” Complains nobody is at the Iowa game...

He simply does not understand the dynamics of Big Ten baseball. Moving it to Omaha was the best thing that could have happened to that tournament.
LOL. Like you understand?

Why are you blind to the fact that the stands are empty? Do you just ignore the video?

It is obvious that you don't understand much of anything when it comes to B1G baseball.

A location like Indy would draw Iowa, Debbie, and IU fans. It would be closer for Ilinois fans, too. It is easier logistically for Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio State fans. So that is 7 fan bases of the 8 teams that qualified this year. Attendance would likely be much better than what we are seeing in Omaha. Like I said, it can't get much worse.

Empty seats in Indy vs MANY MORE empty seats in Omaha.

And Indy would be closer for N'western & Purdue fans if /when they qualify in the future.

@Franisdaman look at past tournaments not in Omaha and look at the crowds.

Even when Iowa was in the 2016 championship there were 10,000 in the stands. Nebraska/Indiana had 20k. I'd be willing to bet if Iowa/Nebraska are ever the Sunday final we could sell it out.

That would happen in no other city.

Yup this is dead on Omaha is the best spot for the tournament imo

The Bog Ten. LOL

Again, thanks for the humor.
Literally nobody agrees with you. It’s gotten cute. It’s ok that you don’t understand. It’s ok that you think being close to other schools that don’t go to their own home games makes a difference. It’s ok. Hell its downright adorable. Keep ignoring the numbers pumpkin.

Hi, Lyle.

Why Lyle? Well, with all of your misspellings & inaccuracies, it is safe to assume you misspelled your profile name, too.

By the way, it's the Big 10, not the Bog 10.

And the seats are empty in Omaha, even if you turn a blind eye to the video evidence.

Maybe you will get something right in this thread.

I doubt it.

Have a great night, Lyle!

It's great IF Debbie & Iowa BOTH make the BTT. THEN there are at least some fans behind home plate.

But what happens when neither team makes the BTT? What we are seeing on TV now only gets worse.

Indy was the solution for B1G basketball and football tournaments/championship games. I bet it will be the solution for baseball, too.

Good one. Cut me real deep.

You are absolutely wrong about everything else. You truly don’t understand BOG Ten baseball. I have stated facts. I have actual history on my side. You have a shitty theory you pulled out of your ass. Sucks to be you.

Meanwhile, Omaha continues to have the three highest attended BOG Ten tournaments EVER.

You are so dumb. That is all.

True but at the moment they both make it most years

As I said above, there are many reasons why Indy would be a logical host for the B1G baseball tournament.

After all, because of those reasons, it already hosts the:

* B1G Football Championship game
* B1G Men's basketball Tournament
* B1G Women's basketball Tournament

It will be interesting to see what the B1G decides to do with the B1G Baseball Tournament.

I bet they keep it where the CWS is played and where the most baseball fans are. Looks like that’s the place that has the best potential for big turnouts. Oh and it’s a baseball town, unlike Indy.

Yes, less empty stands in Indy. Guaranteed.

They've moved this tournament around quite a bit......its in Omaha to stay.

I'll let you get back to your trolling now.
You are biased towards Omaha, obviously, based on the fact that you live in that state.

I am trolling? What an absolutely idiotic statement. You are a Debbie fan on an Iowa site and let's be VERY CLEAR. An Iowa fan ON an Iowa site making a case for Indy is not trolling.

Do you know what WOULD be trolling? If i went to a Debbie site and made the case for Indy. But I don't go to Debbie sites. Debbie sites are for people like YOU! Yet you, a Debbie fan, are here on an Iowa site. So, really, who is trolling??

Good grief.

As I said above, if you take your red Debbie sunglasses off for a few seconds AND if you use some common sense....Ok, that's probably too much to ask for.

Just don't tell us that you are hopeful that the B1G Men's basketball Tournament gets moved to Omaha as well.

Sorry Fran but they’ve tried it in other cities and attendance has been pitiful. As much as it pains me to say, Neb fans will show up in droves to Omaha. And to a lesser extent, Iowa fans will.

You wouldn’t get anywhere near that many Minnesota fans in Minneapolis or IU fans to Indy. The worst would be Chicago.

Not complaining. Hope it stays in Omaha every year.

Dont you think it would have been already slated for Indianapolis? There are a few smart people in the conference, Im surprised yoyr the only one who has thought this.
Did you just start following baseball last year? Now your all upset.
No one agrees with you. Central location would be nice, but there is a reason it is now in Omaha. Ticket sales.

Do yourself a favor and look at the Big Ten tournament location history and notice that it has been held in a centralized location every year before Nebraska joined. Take note of the attendance. Then report back here with all those attendance numbers. For all games, not just the "home" team games.
