B1G Seeding Scenarios

Iowa is looking stronger this year than the last few years. Your team worries me more than anyone else by far. I really think it's just a 2 team race. I think several OSU wrestlers will lose early and tOSU will finish ahead of them for 3rd. And Minnesota will finish 26th (yes, that was gratuitous).

Well ok state isn't looking to hot. Kilmara losing to milhoff and crutchmer losing to reed on Friday.

Unless Boyd is the next Mark Branch and rolls through the rest of the year. I never thought he would AA, but you have to throw him in the conversation. 125,141,149,157,165,174,184, and 285 are all possible AA candidates imo. I do think only 6 of the 8 will make it which will leave them short, but I will be surprised if anyone has more than 7 AA. If the pokes can put three in the finals they will be right there.

The more results I see the more difficult this is becoming. There's been a little movement among the top seeds, but I'm still clueless as to how they seed 141 and who gets the #1 at 174. What do you think?

125

1. Tomasello
2. Gilman
3. Megaludis
4. Lambert

Tomasello's win over Meg sealed the #1 seed, the rest fall into place pretty easily with Gilman, Megaludis and Lambert. No one else here is worth mentioning as the top four (if you count Lambert) are head and shoulders above everyone else.

133
1. Richards
2. Clark
3. Conaway
4. Alexander
5. Montoya
6. DiJulius

Where does Ryan Taylor fit in? He lost to Richards and Clark but has beaten Brancale and Giraldo comfortably. His match with DiJulius will be very important as far as seeding is concerned. Taylor could jump into top 5/6 and maybe more importantly knock JDJ OUT of top 5/6.

What to watch for: DiJulius vs Taylor

141
1. Jordan
2. Thorn
3. Ashnault
4. Abidin
5. Gasca
6. Ervin
7. Guilibon
8. Grothus
9. Oster
10. Bannister

Who the hell knows how this falls into place after the top 4. Too many similar records/wrestlers for me to break it down and keep you interested. A couple good matches remain, so here's how I see it...for now.

What to watch for: Thorn vs Ervin, Guilibon vs Gasca, Abidin vs Oster

149
1. Retherford
2. Sorenson
3. Sueflohn
4. Tsirtsis
5. Pantaleo
6. Griffin

Tsirtsis dropped a tight match with Short and then Short lost Crone...ugh. Sueflohn and Tsirtsis meet this week, winner gets #3 seed, loser gets a semi match with Rethorford.

What to watch for: Sueflohn vs Tsirtsis

157

1. Nolf
2. Martinez
3. Ryan
4. Lewis
5. Cooper

No real movement here and no decent matches remaining. Moving on...

165
1. Jordan, OSU
2. Jordan, WI
3. Rodrigues
4. Perrotti
5. Rasheed
6. Welch

Big match coming up with the Jordan cousins. Winner gets the top seed at B1G tourney. BoJo squeaked out a 3-2 win over PSU and Isaac doesn't give up very many points. First one to 5 wins this match in my opinion.

What to watch for: BoJo vs I. Jordan, Welch vs Perrotti

174
1. Nickal
2. Meyer
3. Brunson
4. Mahomes
5. Martin
6. Jackson

Does Nickal's #1 national ranking and 1 B1G loss outweigh Meyer's undefeated B1G season? I have no idea. If I was seeding it I think Meyer should get #1 seed but just have a hunch that he gets hosed and gets the 2 seed.

184
1. Abounader
2. Brooks
3. Dudley
4. McCuthceon
5. Courts
6. Gravina

Not much movement here. Brooks holds steady at #2.

197
1. McIntosh
2. Pfarr
3. Burak
4. Huntley
5. Studebaker

Burak's loss to Pfarr wasn't a huge loss. Whether it was a takedown or not they'll meet up in the semis. Burak gets paybacks at tourney.

Hwt
1. Coon
2. Snyder
3. Stoll
4. Smith
5. Kroells
6. Black

I'm looking forward to a Stoll vs Snyder match. I think Snyder is much better on his feet, but Stoll has some heavy freaking hips. Going to be A LOT tougher to finish on Stoll than Jan Johnson. Black and Kroells will meet to decide the 5/6 seed.

What to watch for: Black vs Kroells

If i'm not mistaken, don't they seed to 8, unless there are more allocations provided?

Last year,
125 was seeded to 8 spots but got 5 allocations, and the rest were drawn in,
133 seeded out to 14 because they got 12 allocations
141 seeded to 14 and got 8 allocations
149 seeded to 8 and got 7 allocations
157-285 all seeded to 14 as they 8-10 allocations

So 141 could really not be in our favor if they seed to 14, and it stands as posted above as Grothus as the 8 seed would get the 9 Oster first, and then #1 Jordan.

Would Gasca beating Gulibon or Thorn beating Ervin be enough to bump Brody up a few spots?

Good points on Gasca and Thorn helping out Grothus. I only seeded who I thought could be contenders. I really should have seeded to 8 to keep things uniform, but I just slammed this together quick

I wouldn't think Nickal's #1 national ranking should come into play at all where Big Ten seeds are concerned. While I don't necessarily think Meyer is the best 174-pounder in the Big Ten, I think he gets the #1 seed based on his Big Ten record. His win over common opponent Jackson, who beat Nickal (attempted throw or not, the result is still an official loss for Nickal), would seem to outweigh national rankings.

After all, a wise man once said that rankings don't necessarily at all correlate to seeds.

This isn't just any board, goia. We have standards. If you're going to be "just slamming things together quick", I think I can speak for the rest of my Iowa wrestling brethren when I say we don't have any interest in reading your half-hearted efforts. If you can't give us your best, just keep this stuff to yourself. Geesh.

Do you think Meyer would fare better against Martin/Mahones or Brunson in the semis? My gut says he matches up better w/Brunson.

Nickal
8 Seed

Mahomes
Martin

Brunson
Jackson

7 seed
Meyer

If you can imagine the above being a bracket, I'd rather have the #1 seed and face the winner of Mahomes/Martin. I wouldn't be surprised if Jackson beat Brunson in their quarter, we all saw how smooth he is on his feet. While both Mahomes and Martin are good wrestlers, their consistency is a little iffy in my opinion. However it plays out, I like Meyer's chances at getting a shot at Nickal as long as he's active on his feet and being the aggressor.

Thanks for the nice work!

Feel free to take on "B1G Seeding Guy* " as your shtick, people around here have gone further with less. There's a Mr. K. Wood who has been living off emojis for years.

*guy or gal or other, thanks. When I was young, it was either / or. Now, it seems there a lot more options. We are not here to judge only to thank you for your work.

I don't see how Nickal gets the #1 seed and I'm a PSU fan. He has a loss in the B1G and Meyer doesn't. Both have wrestled a full B1G schedule. End of story. That's the way it works.

I think we will have some great big ten finals with the title being decided by who wins the majority.
Gillman vs Tomasello
Clark vs Taylor
Jordan vs Ashnault
Retherford vs Sorenson
Nolf vs Martinez
Jordan vs Jordan
Meyer vs Nickal
Brooks vs Dudley
McIntosh vs Burak
Coon vs Sndyer

Big Tens setup nice for Iowa but Nationals favor PSU. Iowa's hope sits with 174 and 184.

Really looking forward to 125, 149, 157, 174 (can Meyer prevent giving up the big move), and 285 (just watched Coon manhandled Smith, wow he looked good). Can't wait.

If i'm not mistaken, don't they seed to 8, unless there are more allocations provided?

Would Gasca beating Gulibon or Thorn beating Ervin be enough to bump Brody up a few spots?
Given that Brody doesn't have many matches, would it be awful if he fell to wrestle backs at Big Tens and worked his way back to 3rd/4th match to get a little extra work? Expecting a lot and his conditioning might not be ready for that much in two days, but we are still 3 weeks out. Of course, I want Brody to win a B1G title in CHA, but looking at reality at this time
