Ben Kueter Pan Ams

Just watched his first match. Tech fall in about 2 min.

But I have a question: what in the heck is that surface are they wrestling on?

Thats a standard international mat...it has more give, so to accommodate throws... you would have seen that at the Olympics, World Champs, etc. The US typically uses Folkstyle mats and converts them to the international ring.... These are the same mats at the Olympic Training Center

Thanks. Shame on me for not noticing this before. And I’ve even been to the room at the OTC. SMH

Edit: Ok I just checked out past matches from the Olympics and the mat looked more normal. I’m thinking the lighting at the Pan Ams makes it look more loose than I’m used to. Thanks again.

I think every American is in the Gold medal match. Almost every match by each guy has ended in a tech. This competition is extremely weak. But hey it’s still wrestling to follow so I’m not complaining too much.

Probably because they don't know or don't want to have to prove how old any of them are. That can be an issue for age level tournaments. 😏

(they've had some age concerns with some Major League Cuban Baseball players I believe)
Well, they know how old they are. Lol. It’s not like the concept of numbers was just recently brought to Cuba.

Risk of defection would make more sense, maybe. Senior athletes may have families to consider. Younger kids may see opportunities in defecting with less downside:

So tell me you don't know anything about it without telling me you don't know anything about it. LOL!

If you can spell Baseball and Cuba you might become enlightened. Good luck.
