Tayshawn Comer is a 6'1" guard with ONE YEAR left.

In 32 games last season at Evansville, he averaged 36 minutes, 16.2 pts, 3.7 rebs, 4.1 assists (3.3 turnovers), 1.2 steals and .20 blocks.

He shot 38.6% overall, 30.4% from three and 78.7% from the FT line.

As you can see, he has a ZOOM call with Iowa this afternoon.

Interesting to see us pursue several 1-year PGs, particularly with Bennett Stirtz expected to get heavy minutes at that position next year. Mac must have some different ideas about how to utilize Stirtz and other PGs.

It is interesting seeing who Ben is reaching out to. And some of these guys' shooting percentages are not all that great. And I hate all of these one year rentals, which is what this guy would be, but unfortunately, every player has become that. Players, if they have eligibility, can leave and enter the transfer portal annually.

And check this out: this will be Tayshawn Comer's 3rd school in 4 years. He played his first 2 years at Eastern Kentucky and last season at Evansville.

It's hard to be a fan now a days when you never know who will be on your roster from year to year.

Hi Tampa, I taught my first year after graduating from UNI at 2 elementary schools in St. Petersburg. However, I lived in Tampa in the Hyde Park area not far from the U. of Tampa. I was a track and cross country runner at UNI and recently inducted into the UNI Athletic Hall of Fame. Surprized me. In Tampa I use to run 10 miles a day down Bayshore Blvd. and around the Hyde Park and Davis Island neighborhoods. I won 2 long distance races at MacDill Air Force Base. I miss Tampa but I am happy to live 7 miles from Kinnick Stadium. Got season tickets for football and live the happy life now that golf season is here (Brown Deer golf course).
Congrats on the HOF induction! Do you still race?

At minimum, it's definitely hard to envision myself adding any of these guys to my list of all-time favorite Hawkeyes. About the only thing would be if one of these Iowa teams can find a way to make a deep tournament run. That might earn some points in my ledger.

i have said this before. we might get to the Sweet 16 but it might be hard to advance any further. We're the Oakland A's going up against the LA Dodgers ;)

Why would any pg with only 1 year elibility left come to Iowa with Stirtz there & consuming 90% of the minutes? Why, Why, Why? Ain't happening. Better off targeting the freshman, sophomore & JUCO players & not waste time on these players IMO.

With the transfer portal bringing in one & dones it will be very hard to categorize any transfers into Iowa as "all time favorites" unless they put up Luka type numbers & take a deep run into the NCAA's.

As a former college coach, I always tried to prepare for Plan B, C, D, etc. and I imagine that's what Coach Ben is doing. The two college teams I coached were both very good and at good schools - a place a lotta players wanted to be. But I'll never forget one night of phone calling recruits during which my top 6 recruits, all of whom I'd been talking with for many weeks, all told me they were going elsewhere. I was bummed, but just crossed em off the list and went after the next ones in line. We finished 5th in the country the next year, so it all worked out. But, you can't always get what you want (Jaggar & Richards).

Some notes on Honor Huff and Duke Brennan:

Brennan would play a lot of minutes at Iowa. That could be McCollum’s biggest selling point. He becomes a role player somewhere else, and his profile is diminished. He might make more money, but no one will notice or care. But who knows what is most important to any player.

Apparently we are already a team to watch for him. Sounds like this might actually be a realistic get who can start at the 2.

Thank god. ;) We need a scoring 2 guard.

Also, he has just one year left; he played his first 2 years at Villanova and last season at K-State

Last season, in 33 games, he averaged 27.6 minutes and shot 39% overall, 39% from three and 82% from the FT line.

Brennan appears to have some pipes, too. He'd be a good force down low for us.

Hopefully playing time AND some money will be enough.

JUCOs may be the answer.
In the old days, I think schools stuck guys in out of the way JUCOs, until they needed them. For those who know their Hawkeye history, 3 of Iowa's best players, all time, came from the JUCOs, Now with so much information out there, it's hard to hide guys any longer. You don't hear much about JUCOs these days. Now mid-majors (and D IIs) are the JUCOs, in terms of finding talent. I just wonder if it's a place to find much talent any longer. But, it's certainly worth the look.

Tre Carroll is a 6'7, 233 lb forward; he played his first 3 seasons at Florida Atlantic.

In 34 games last season, he averaged 22.1 minutes, 12.2 pts, 5.2 rebs, 1.6 assists, 1.0 blocks, .80 steals

He shot 52.3% overall from the field, 39% from three, and 76% from the FT line.

He has heard from the following programs: Miami, NC State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Xavier, Providence, USC, UNLV, Iowa, Dayton

Welp sounds like Texas is now in on him, who has home state advantage and significantly more $$$.

Don’t get your hopes up folks!

Do you guys think Ben will attempt to reel back in any of Iowa's Class of 2025 decommits (ie, Joshua Lewis, Dezmon Briscoe, and Badara Diakite)?

Jeff (what follows) has quite the passion for the transfer portal. ;)

My guess Ben will bring in his own high school recruits. He wants guys ready to play his style of ball. The roster will fill out it just will take a little time.
