Berge

Nevills - who was the #5 overall recruit at a weight which is hard to recruit - is on record as saying he got 60%. Right now there are only 10 or 11 wrestlers on PSU's roster that look to have significant money invested in them. I think PSU has a lot of money available for these two classes (2017 & 2018). In two years I count 15 wrestlers with significant money invested scheduled to be on the roster. And that includes Manville, so I guess it's only 14.

I don't think PSU is giving up much anything for kids that aren't in the lineup. Kid from our HS was 2x medalist and 2nd best kid in his weight (195 - a valued weight in recruiting) in PA AAA SR year. Nearly a full ride offered at a lower level D1 school. Passed it up to go to PSU for book money (didn't work out for him). Aside from PSU, we have a 2x state champ from our school who went to B1G school for a 50% ride. I've posted this on other boards, but I have a family member in the middle of (actually the end of) the recruiting process. Two finalists were a B1G school (not PSU) offering him a partial which would likely leave him with about 100K due over 5 years and a lower level school on a full ride. And to my and his mother's consternation it has been a very difficult decision for him. Thank sweet baby Jesus that it looks as if he is taking the money (although another school has entered the mix). But the point is, the other offer was seriously in play.

Kids go to PSU for less. They do the same thing at Iowa, tOSU, OK State. Not all kids, but some do.

Martellotti, Hammond, Law, all examples

Cael has his faults, see recruitment of Haines/Nevilles, not standing by a kid's offer through injury, but in today's day, & age there are other factors more important as he's tearing up the recruiting trail.
Who was that?

The only injury situation I'm aware of was Sam Sherlock blowing out his knee at Beast of the East, and Cael honored his scholarship.

Everyone just sit back and take a deep breath and really think about why he didn't choose the Hawks.
Kemerer and Marinelli I assume?
I'll be chastised for this by some saying I'm over reacting. That the sky isn't falling. That we got Lee. To preface this with a reason is the slight chance it might help Iowa get the next kid (Warner). Iowa needs to adjust some things. Not a single coach paid a home visit to the man we heard from at 4 today. No personal attention was paid to him. No plan was given. He was herded in on a visit with 8 other recruits. Much more to the story as well. Iowa will say they are who they are. Not saying I disagree, but saying it doesn't always work. That Iowa can get more of the kids they are going after if they adjust to today's day & age. A good offer isn't all that is needed anymore. Iowa is still stuck on we are Iowa, and that's all it takes. Well how many kids are they going to miss out on with that strategy. If we continue to rest on that it worked with so & so. Well it can work with more and will need to in order to win titles.
If true, this is really disappointing to hear. As in wtf are they doing disappointing! Where is the competitive fire we see during matches when it comes to landing DIFFERENCE MAKERS like this kid looks to be? How about we realize it isn't 1992 any more and kids aren't just lining up to wrestle at Iowa like they once did!

You should change your profile pic.don't ya think? You ain't in high school anymore right?

No. But I've been thinkin' about gettin' back in school, though, man. But I'd just as soon keep workin', though, keep a little change in my pocket. Better than listenin' to some dipshit, doesn't know what the hell he's talkin' about, anyway.

You forgot this, "I keep getting older but school girls stay the same age.." You need to change that profile pic. You ain't in high school anymore son.

I've been skeptical that he can make 149 in 2 years...let alone the next 6. Between him, Nick Lee and Manville, someone never sees the mat at PSU. Or he can go up to 165, sit behind Joseph for 2 years, then compete for the spot with Wittlake for his jr and sr seasons.

Wittlake is already wrestling above 165 as a high school junior with a reasonably lean build. Don't think he's wrestling 165 in three years. He's projecting at 184 from all I've heard.

Well dam but really not that surprised about Berge going out east. I don't see how he is going to make 149 in 2 years from now. With the way they are stock plied for sure someone rides the bench or transfers
Well at least the Cubs are winning up 4-1 in the top of the 5th.

As for maybe Tom or Terry doing more visits have no clue how many they do.
Do know that Terry went and gave clinics at young guys. Also we had some of these kids at Grapple on the gridiorn for sure Warner. Guess in the long run if a kid doesn't want to come and wrestle at Iowa don't feel like I would want that kid either.

The question is why - doesn't he/they want to come wrestle at Iowa? Of course, you only want kids who want to be there. The question is also - how do you get them to want to come to Iowa?

Article from Rochester Post Bulletin (paper that covers area wrestling here in Minnesota): http://www.postbulletin.com/sports/...al&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=user-share

Really no discussion on Iowa (pros or cons). Telling...

This writer is a total prick. He has expressed his hate for Iowa in numerous articles. I wouldn't read too much into a lack of Iowa mentions.

He brown-noses Heidt to get access to the KM team, and all the while he talks nasty about Iowa every opportunity he gets.

I suspect Warner and Fix may be close behind. It would make sense to go from Minnesota for Berge, to Illinois for Warner, to Oklahoma for Fix then back to FLO Headquarters in Texas.

Because in order to cover the best wrestling team in the reading area, if not the state (this year), you must also love the college that the head coach comes from? Where did I miss that in Logic 101? That guy is actually well-respected in our area. However, most of us also despise Iowa, too.

Seems like this has happened for the past several years where we get our hopes up on a few recruites and get let down. Except for a few occasions I feel like we continue to get out recruited time over time. Doesn't even sound like we tried very hard to recruite this kid. Disappointed

Of course it would have been nice to land Berge but it really isn't some huge loss. I am embarrassed for several of you guys who freak out every time some high school kid makes a decision. We have Kemdawg and the Bull for 49-65 possibly Nelson Brands. I think the money can be spent at other weights to get more bang for our bucks.

Well they did have his brother flame out hard at Iowa. He was very talented but from the sounds of it no so much upstairs. This could have certainly been in the Brands head during this process. I have heard nothing but good things about Brady but the Brands certainly are not ones to forget. Again if we get Warner this is an after thought.

You guys are ASSUMING that TnT wanted Berge as much as we the fans did. I have no inside info, but maybe, just maybe, they didn't view him as a must get/high priority.

Perhaps they didn't see him making the lineup for a few years. Maybe there was something else.

I'm sure they would have liked to get Berge. Who wouldn't? He's a great high school wrestler and seems like a great young man. But maybe TnT didn't view him as a great fit and chose to spend more time and money on other recruits.

I guess what I'm getting at is that it seems kind of silly for us fans to get all bent out of shape over one recruit and to criticize the coaches when we have no idea what their plan is.

Dodgeball. Penn State sucked for years until a well to do alumni donated the magical orb...the rest is history.

So why are you posting on an Iowa forum? No Stewartville forums to troll?

Deflection and salt: a classic combination. I wasn't even trolling. If you're such a KM fan, you should love the fact that that writer has an unhealthy infatuation with putting the team in the spotlight every season.

Wasn't there a "BERGE" at Iowa a couple years ago?

I found this quote from Berge after his commitment to PSU. Good for him in his decision. And I have to admit, Sanderson does seem like a good guy and I could see why wrestlers want to wrestle for him. I wonder if TnT are too intense for some kids.

"But yeah, coach Sanderson is awesome, he's funny and laid-back. The biggest draw for me was the attitude in that room. Their guys really enjoy the sport. Coach Sanderson does a good job of making it fun. I didn't see that with some other programs, didn't see the energy those guys have every day when they come into the room. I'm someone who truly loves and enjoys the sport, so I wanted to be around more people like that."

Next time PSU visits Carver, the team's intro music should be Cyndi Lauper's 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.'
