Best Frozen Pizza

I haven't gotten one for quite awhile; but, had previously purchased a few of these for my son and his friends and they were not too bad for a frozen pizza.

This stuff is trash. It's a totinos party pizza in a cool box.

I've been getting the Lotzza Motzza (Brew Pup Pizza) at Hy-vee......for frozen....it's damn good.
I endorse this 100%. Reminds me of pete's blue diamond pizza from Wisconsin we always had when growing up.

lol. Is there a frozen pizza out there that isn't trash?

Arguing over the best frozen pizza is like arguing over the best gas station pizza (yes, I did go there), there is no real winner. They all basically suck.

I just picked up one of these last week.Haven't tried it yet,but it looks pretty good for a frozen pizza.

And yeah,Mama Bosso's is pretty much my go to frozen pizza.

I may have to try this.

It is suprisingly good. Two pepperoni's, dabble a bit more cheese on them, bake, make sandwich when done.

For the cost, ease - and if you consider them like an appetizer given the volume...can't be beat.

Nope. Trust me, I do it both ways on occasion and each purpose has its own merits. Adding toppings to a frozen pizza can be done in under a minute, then the leftover ingredients are thrown in the freezer until you cook the next one. Opening a can of sauce, spreading it on the flatbread is kind of messy, plus the sauce and bread doesn't keep well/long. But don't get me wrong, it's very easy to make flatbread pizza that tastes much better than any frozen pizza that can be bought.

You can make your own pizza sauce in a food processor in about 2 minutes and it tastes a ton better than the crap in a can. And it keeps just fine in the refrigerator. We usually make a whole bunch at a time and then freeze in pizza-size portions.

It also only takes a few minutes to make your own dough; the biggest problem is the wait time for it to rise.

Most are trash, yes, but the other trash doesn't cost 5+ dollars and market themselves as a quality pizza.

Fair enough. I haven't had a Tostino's in probably 30 years; but thought this one was definitely better than those. It has probably been about a year since the last time I even bought that frozen pizza. My son, who is now 12, has learned to appreciate better pizza and now wants to order delivery when I am going out and he has friends over.

Agree with the posters about making your own. I will make home-made pizza every couple of months. I have stopped making my own dough though as their is a grocery store here where I can buy pre-made dough from the bakery dept. Just bring it home and set it out to rise for about an hour (as you make the sauce and prep the rest of the ingredients) and you are good to go. I get fresh mozzarella made daily from an italian place close by, grow my own basil and oregano.......mmm, shoot, now I am hungry for pizza.

Back in college it was totinos pizza. Those were awesome and cheap

Now its either Tombstone or Tony's pizza. Whatever one is on sale. I usually load them up with fresh ingredients and cheese so its loaded and not just the frozen pizza. Taste pretty good still.

Also I second the Pasqualies pizza, best pizza in Iowa, but I only get it when I go home.

I smell a perma ban coming.

Damn you're old school. The whole point of frozen pizza is you want to be cheap and easy. Underrated virtues IMO.

Wasn't impressed with Pasqualies any time I"ve ever tried it. Must be an acquired taste.

I like easy. Cheap is good sometimes. When you are feeding the 4 kids, throwing a couple of frozen pizzas in the oven is a necessity sometimes with all the activities going on and time restrictions.

been enjoying that mama basso's stuff since we moved back to iowa. what's the story with those? made in the QC area?

had a tombstone el diablo (limited time only) last weekend and it was pretty good. really spicy, so i had to give them credit for making something that had that much kick.

Homemade pizza (if you make crust and sauce yourself) is typically cheaper than a frozen pizza unless you go really gourmet with the toppings.

It's not as easy, obviously, but it's a lot easier than most people think and tastes much better.

You can also make your own frozen pizza.

I'd need to be convinced. Not of the taste so much, but the cost. I doubt you can buy toppings of cheese, meat and veggies, sauce and crust for under $4. And you can get some of the favorites listed in this thread for $2. And of course we all know the lazy factor is worth a lot.

I never understood this.

If you're going to add your own toppings why not just buy some flat bread or a bobilli crust? The point of frozen pizza is you pop it in and don't have to worry about prep/cooking. The time to put on your own topping seems to defeat the purpose

Nah.....I just cut up some red onion and throw it on. Still saving time but get a much better pizza.

i throw on some frozen spinach and/or broccoli just for a little 'health' factor.... and it really makes a regular tombstone better.

Mama Basso

/thread

This is the right answer. Didn't read the thread. I've been through the frozen foods section more times than I like to admit. Haven't been lately (except for the blanched frozen veggies which are as good or better than the fresh ones). My waistline and my male B-cup titties betray me. In case you're worried about me, I'm way down on sugar and anything with white flour lately. I still use awful dressing for my greens. Replaced the sugar and white flour with mostly legumes. Down 12 pounds and still drinking like a hopeless martyr of mediocrity. Sometimes it's very embarrassing to live the way the way I live. Mama Basso at least doesn't suck.

I didn't know this board was still populated with so many poor college students.

A refreshing moment of honesty from a paper tiger. There are a lot of things that you don't know but claim to know. That's your reputation here. You're probably less awful than you appear. You probably don't care to, but you could try to write as if you were an interesting person if you attempted sincerity occasionally.

I worked it out once and came up with about a dollar for my homemade pizzas before additional toppings were added. Now, I buy flower, yeast, oil, cheese and tomatoes at either Sams or GFS which is a restaurant supply company so I'm getting the ingredients in bulk cheap. If you buy the ingredients as needed in the grocery store, it probably isn't cheaper, but still tastier.

Was this a $1 for a cheese pizza with nothing more?

I was in Seattle not long ago and had some pizza there at a place called Zeeks. It wasn't too bad.

It came out a little under a dollar but yeah, that's with fresh homemade crust, homemade sauce using imported San Marzano tomatoes and good quality cheese. It would be about half that if I didn't use imported tomatoes.
