BIG10 FINALS 2025

I like the potential in next year's lineup. Especially if Iowa kicks in another 1-2million in the transfer portal. However none of that matters if the coaching staff stays the same. These kids are under coached right now. Not saying Tom should get the boot but all of his staff should.

Solid tournament! Two strong rideouts to secure 3rd place. I don't know that we'll see great improvement in his offense in 10 days but he'll need to do more than ride to be an AA.
The first three places at heavyweight are as solid as ever with Gable, Kerkvliet, and Hendrickson. Let’s see if Kueter can rise to the occasion and take one of the other 5 spots.

This is the correct attitude and reaction to have. A bunch of people on here on gonna be real quiet in 2 weeks when Iowa has 7AAs and finishes admittedly a distant 2nd behind PSU, but a large gap above 3rd place.
I’d put the over under at 5.5 right now.

Ayala
Parco
Caliendo
Buchanan

They’re locks. Everybody else has huge question marks heading into nationals. Mostly due to injury or total lack of offense.

As a team that was the most pitiful performance at B1Gs in 50 years. Buchanon looked sick all weekend. Guys got beat by guys they had beaten before. I realize Teemer is hurt, but we know we can't count on much from him at Nationals now. There were a few glimpses of bright spots, but a very ugly tournament overall. Kueter is the only one who helped himself for NCAA seeds.
Sorry, had to get that off my chest. I hope they turn it around in eleven days.

7 AAs??????
Please list them in order of most likely.

TIA.

What are the 7 AA’s you see? I love Hawkeye wrestling as much as the next guy but 7 all Americans right now is a stretch. I also think Iowa will slip to third or fourth. Mainly due to the Teemer injury.

125- very likely won’t AA. Like his fight but he’s to small. 3% chance to aa

133- definite AA and still a finalist contender. 100% chance to aa

141- won’t be there.

149 - should be an all American. 80% chance to aa

157- Big question mark. Extremely talented wrestler that’s very explosive but that injury is limiting his potential. Finished 7 at big tens. It’s fair to question whether he can overcome the injuries. I’ll be rooting for him. 50% chance to aa

165- definite aa and a finalist contender. 100% chance to aa

174- toss up. He could with the right draw. 50/50

184- I think he will but he could just as easily lose in the blood round. 55% chance to aa

197- definite aa and a finalist contender. 100% chance to aa

285- should aa but winning 2-1 matches is a dangerous way to make a living. 65% chance to aa.

By my count I see 5 or 6. And far too many people that are currently borderline.

Mikey Caliendo can beat Messenbrink if he works at out hustling and pushing Messenbrink to have to react to his offensive pursuit. A win will make it worth it!
You don’t best Mesenbrink by out hustling him. That’s his mojo. You slow it down, offer a strong defense to slow his attack rate and be strategic in your offense. Caliendo slowed it down by staying in great position. Mikey —— move your feet. That’s how you beat Mess. Get to the corners. Static feet and he will eat you alive. Mike is a great student of the sport and my favorite wrestler. Huge heart and classy young man

I predict third but won't be surprised by fourth. I will be pleasantly surprised by second, based on this weekend's vomitous performance. Everyone dropping 1-3 places equals a lot of lost points (as we saw today).

We have too many guys trying to win chess matches instead of wrestling matches. And I don't see that changing in the next 2 weeks.

Your comment "move your feet" is something I have noticed with PSU especially but other guys who are very good. Their feet are always moving, they have exceptional footwork and very active feet. When you shoot on them they don't wait for you to touch their leg to begin defending, their feet move back out of danger. They very rarely get caught flat footed. Iowa has very mediocre footwork at times and get caught flat footed a lot. You watch guys winning big matches and they are always moving and never stop wrestling from any position. The two best guys we have at moving and wrestling through positions are Caliendo and Angelo.
