Blaize didn't make the trip to NYC with the team due to an undisclosed illness. Tough way to end your career. Best wishes to him moving forward.

Not sure if they have someone on deck to take his spot, make it a forfeit or get rid of the pig tail match.

Seems like a few years ago, they had to redraw the brackets when somebody dropped out late. Nick Moore got a bad redraw if I remember correctly.

Ugh!!! I'm just sick about this. :-(

UNI has had a horrible run of luck with this type of thing. So disappointing.

Yes, believe he got a rematch with an ISU wrestler (whose name escapes me right now) who he beat earlier in the year, but lost the match. That had to totally suck.

Cabell was the 14 seed. I am assuming they will have to redraw the bracket very soon. Any info on this?

I am pretty sure that it is too late for an alternate and the bracket will remain the same, except for Cabell's opponent now getting a bye.

On a side note if Stoll loses to the winner of Black / (6) Denzel Dejournette in the second round he could get to the round of 12 without facing a seated wrestler. Previously he was likely to see Blaze to get to the round of 12 on the backside. Just depends on his knee and that sucks. Then its most likely Kroells or Wessell to AA. Just don't think the kid can do it against either of them on one leg. Some hope to get to the match and who knows from there. If he can get past the first period in that match and get one of those guys under him he has a chance of turning them and who knows. Many "ifs" but I think this could help him out.

Mumps is going around at UNI, Iowa, and Iowa State. My friend's neighbor has a son at one of the three schools. He got it from a good ol' fashioned makeout session at a campus party. He ended up being in the hospital for meningitis. Can be pretty serious.

Close. Cabell's opponent is getting a medical forfeit victory. Congratulations Joseph Goodhart on your victory, and your free three points!

Feel bad for Cabell, but this could potentially be good news for Stoll. If Stoll loses to Dejournette 2nd round, then he would've had to face Cabell in the R16. A quick, Athletic heavy like Cabell I think would've posed problems for Sammy with a bad knee. He has a very nice path to the R12 right now IMO - Win or lose to Dejournette.

a bit off topic, but in the vein of panther wrestling, mark schwab has decided to leave the program, within the panther nation thread, a suggestion of metcalf as a possible replacement (dreaming or reality?) is brought up...any other former hawks that could be considered, or does coach schwab keep it in the panther family?....

The only way Metcalf would consider that is after he hangs up his shoes and retires. He's not leaving the HWC to go to the PWC. But it wouldn't be a bad gig after he retires if there's no room for him on the Iowa staff at the time.

metcalf would be a long shot at best, but would a DSJ or the "Beard" want to come back?...maybe someone with WSR ties like to get in the game?....don't see either of the Greenlee's coming back into the fold, maybe even a longer shot, Tony Davis (UNI's last NC) joins the panther train....or the 'stache comes back to the state of iowa...I'd like to see UNI take the next step and become a consistent top 10 team....

I would hope that Brands would figure out a way to make room to get Brent on staff..
