Bo Bassett COMMITS to IOWA. Who's next?

This is true. Parents are starting to see through the negative recruiting. Some key parents are/were turned off by it.

The credit for this in particular goes to Tom/Terry. They did a really good job of actually recruiting. Presenting what they are about, what the program actually looks like day to day and then being consistent in the follow up and contact. Never let off the gas.

Two old dogs that tried some new tricks.

Reporters that write for the PSU rivals site are saying the $5M NIL rumor is in fact true and was the game changer. I understand many won’t believe that. But one of the reporters, when questioned, double-downed and said he confirmed it.

Changes nothing other than showing just how committed some boosters are to bringing Iowa back on top.
Confirmed with who? Who exactly would give them that information?

They run the same playbook every time we are in deep on a recruit or transfer. Make up numbers and then spin it as "Iowa can only buy guys" or "man they suck if that much money wasn't even enough" depending on if we get the guy or not.

Anyways, Bo told me we are paying him in Spencer Lees and Carver Cones
This is all true. And, I like how they say they confirmed it with people in his camp and other college coaches. And, how would other colleges coaches know what we offered? They wouldn’t. And, if I was a recruit, if asked, I would say another school was paying me more too. It’s called business.

Is smalls not as “in the know” as he thinks, or was he just throwing everyone off

Their team has won 12 of 14 titles and has a handpicked roster of superstars. Iowa gets one big recruit, and they go out of their way to push the narrative that his decision is only about money, and he won’t be that successful at the next level. It’s hard to be more petulant, petty, and arrogant than that group of “adults.”
I watched about 5 minutes of a PSU podcast last night (it was all I could stomach). Basically he said Carl recruits the right way without using NIL and just sells the program and Iowa is just buying recruits and transfers and that isn't right or sustainable. This is why Iowa will never catch PSU. Iowa only gets recruits interested in money, where PSU gets guys interested in being the best they can be. That is why they are winning. This appears to be a daily podcast possibly connected/sponsored by PSU wrestling (not sure on that though). The garbage they spew to their fanbase daily is laughable and apparently most of them eat it right up. Why a guy right in their back yard (a couple huge recruits now) would go to Iowa only has two answers in their opinion. Money or he is overrated and Carl didn't want him. Truly is telling.

They are a cult.

I mean, they write articles for Rivals, are at pressers asking questions and do podcasts. But I get you and I would be just as skeptical in your shoes.
Either way, I think it is hilarious that after losing one recruit, the Penn State reporters are writing articles about money (NIL) being a problem in college wrestling. I did t hear any of that when Ira Lubert was dumping tens of millions into the program and the NLWC. They act as if Carl coming to Penn State was just some obvious preordained move. As if he would have come without the insanely high salary and the knowledge that he had a wealthy benefactor that would provide an open checkbook. Caels superior coaching didn’t overtake Iowa while at Iowa State. It did after Lubert bought a program. Now Iowa does the same thing and the PS fans that just discovered wrestling was a sport in 2010 have their panties in a bunch.

First and foremost, this is an amazing pickup for sure. I'm not as active on here, but I've always been a Pennsylvania fan first. Not necessarily Penn State, but I always follow these kids. Bo in particular. I started watching Bo when he was in his first year. Was always struck by just an awesome family dynamic. He and my son always seem to match up in tournaments when they were kids. Some parents may have had issues, but I always found that entire family to be great people who just loved the sport. This could be the start of Midwest Mccort lol.

well Bo himself said everyone offered about the same. so you guys either think he's a liar or can admit the other schools also offered $5 mil?

A team that spends more on their roster than Iowa and literally brought in two returning AAs just last year. Yes, they might not be hitting the portal as regularly these days because…

2024 class - 5 of top 14 lb for lb
2025 class - 4 of top 18 lb for lb

When you get 4-5 top 20 guys every year, you better not have holes.

Can't put my finger on it, but that announcement ceremony seemed to lack suspense.
Might be a little indicator that the kid is not all about the drama. My son was worried he would take off the sweatshirt. I said if everything we have been told about him was true it wouldn't happen. Straight to the point with maturity. Good to see.

Yeah! I bet Franklin does it the right way too! Give me a break, they throw bags of cash at their football program! I’m surprised you lasted 5 minutes! Kudos!!

I thought about it for a minute before starting it. It was 15 minutes long and I was iffy on whether I wanted to go down that path!

or your thoughts? you bring a lot too.
I’ve got no inside info on this, just laying out what I’ve pieced together.
Jax was presumably a lock to Okie state prior to his recruitment. Felt as if it was shaping up to be a two horse race. (With PSU)
He and his family ended up loving their visit to Iowa and hit it off with the coaches. Now he’s got 2 teammates that have committed to Iowa. (Presumably 2 close friends)
rumor has it DT at their dual last night to try and seal the deal with Jax after losing out on Bo and put the full court press on him.

I'm wondering if istherevodkainheaven will cheer for Bassett since God made his college decision?
He likely stroked out once Bo mentioned God and faith for the 2nd time.

Spend some time listening to Bo Bassett discuss his recruitment, goals and future and you'll quickly learn he didn't make his decision based on money. Anyone making a podcast saying so is a flaming idiot.

Money is absolutely important to the Bassett's, but I don't think it would ever be the determining factor in where Bo goes. They generate plenty of it already on their own and would continue to do so no matter where they went.
